Forward/Kicking Coach to assist Mahoney.

After the succesful draft and thinking about what we need to develop our list further- I looked back at what frustrated me most over the last two years and it was our kicking. David Schwarz was snapped up two years ago to assist the Bulldogs- and in particular Wil Minson. He had previously offered his services to the MFC football department but the offer was not taken up.David was an exceptional talent and a great kick.He played centre half-forward or full-forward and was touted as one of the games next superstars , taking more marks than Wayne Carey in 1994, kicking 9 goals straight against Sydney and with some breathtaking finals performances (including "that" blind turn against Carlton). Strong marking, agile and athletic, he was destined for superstardom until he suffered numerous knee injuries, playing only 2 games in 1995 and missing the entire 1996 season.

Therefore he knows the pressure these young guys are under, and would be brilliant in assisting the current list with their kicking etc.. re Miller, Newton etc..and help the development talls in Watts, Fitzpatrick and co..He also could be a great mentor to Gawn getting over his knee at this time.So what about it MFC football department. Ox is a true Red and a Blue. I believe strongly he would jump at the chance if he got an offer of some sort.

David Schwarz has categorically stated that he will not be coaching in any capacity in 2010 as he will have no time for it due to his commitment to helping those fighting gambling addiction.

Beyond 2010 only he knows.

This is blantally untrue I believe - I believe he said just before Gambling week - where he worked for the AFL in highlighting the problems with gambling he could not assist the Bulldogs at that time- however he assisted during the finals. I'm suggesting a part time roll on a needs assisted basis however he could be mentor re over the phone etc.. Things do not need to be face to face all the time.Ido realise he stated he could not take on a full time assistant voaching role. I know for a fact, because he told me so- that he had previously offered his services to Bailey just after he arrived. No harm asking is there ?

Perhaps if the offer was not taken up it is because the club don't see him being valuable from a coaching perspective.

He was a freakishly talented footballer, but coaching is an entirely different game. I haven't been impressed by any insight when I've heard him on the TV/radio to be honest

Fair comment, however, Rodney Eade took up his offer at the Bulldogs and I think he improved their kicking substantially. He has been there for two seasons now, so if he wasn't half decent- he would not have been kept on.

I also was hoping he'd come back to MFC in 2010 in some capacity, but my hopes were dashed when he was asked about it on SEN and he categorically stated he would not be coaching at ANY club due to his commitments re: problem gambling.

He was adamant and he ruled out even a part-time position. This was during the finals from memory, or at least very late in the season.

I'm only reporting what I heard out of his very mouth.

I like the idea of gently twisting his arm to get him back, but in the scheme of things I'm glad he is so devoted to helping problem gamblers more than coaching young players.

C'mon rpfc.......you're better than that. The ox still loves the club and would love to give something back. He was a brilliant footballer and still won a B & F after 3 reco's, showing he had the determination to overcome adversity. Just because he play's a Billy Brownless role in the media don't forget his brilliance and the abilty to change his game to overcome his diminished naturual abilty. Isn't that what you want in a coach?

Interesting choice of words...

I think its maybe worth wording him up for 2011 or 2012, but i'd give him zero chance of coaching in 2010 considering he has already committed his time to something else.

Is there anything particularly wrong with our current Forward coach setup?

I think Mahoney has done ok considering the resources available to him and development needed in a lot of those players.

I've seen some promising setups and set plays, which I'm sure have gone unnoticed by many.
