Read a Interesting article today in the Herald Sun about this young Indigenous player.

18 years of age 188cm from the Northern Territory an agile full forward

Apparently the Pies have designs on him. But they don’t get a crack till pick 30 in the draft

They also stated a number of other clubs are interested in him

My question is?

Is he on Melbs Radar

If so is he worth it?

( note :if so he seems to have some problems that will need attending too. before he can hope to reach his full potential)

Gees i hope not.

Seems fitting that he will end up at Collingpood, as doing time is a pre-requisite for true fans and players.. ;)

Love it!

Any chance this is a way of trying to get other clubs to pick Taylor earlier than pick 30 to make it more likely Ball will "slide" to their first pick?

I do know that BP was watching a match that Taylor participated in toward the end of this year. This game was being played at Maroochydore (Sunshine Coast) on a Saturday afternoon, the same weekend Melbourne played Carlton. Only thing is that I think there was 3 Taylor's playing that day, so not sure which one BP was looking at, if in fact it was a Taylor.

For the record, he left just after half time, had obviously seen enough (or too much).

Just answered my own question...there was only 1 Taylor playing that day (according to the team sheets), it wasn't Troy, it was Scott (who I think is also nominated for the ND).

I can confirm that Troy Taylor was interviewed at draft camp, so I guess that puts him on our radar.

Given that I think he will slide, there is the remotest of remote possibilities he'll be there at 34 and we get to do a happy dance. But it's not likely and I think we might not go for him at 18.

Fingers crossed, it would be extraordinary value.

I had the pleasure of watching Troy Taylor run around for NT against NSW/ACT earlier this year and he will be some sort of player if he can remain on the straight and narrow. Remarkable skills and a tremendous sense for goal.

The question is whether the club is inclined to add a player with a history of questionable discipline to a young, developing squad?

Taylor's talent is certainly not an issue. Think Michael O'Loughlin before his knees gave out.

Most people on here must of never done anything stupid when they were younger. Give a guy a second chance for f**ks sake.

If Dane Swan was in the PSD would you all be saying pass on him? As he has done the same thing.

If he is good enough take him. His past will probably make him slide a little bit anyway which should make him worth more than we get him for.

It would be difficult for Troy (if selected) to get a regular game in our forward line.

1. Because he would be competing against Petterd, Wonna, Jurrah, Bate, Maric, Jetta, and possibly Liam Patrick for medium forward places. Unless the club endorses creating a smallish versatile forward line.

2. Pick 18 I reckon would be used for either Vardy, KPF or a best available, so Taylor wouldnt be selected.

3. He probably will be gone by pick 34.

I rate Troy Taylor, but we've got enough players who play his position.

I would like to see the addition of someone with his size and skills, though with the issues mentioned someone like a Mitch Duncan may be a better option. Though these types of issues should not derail a person too much, we all make mistakes and we must learn. Perhaps he had negative influences in the NT and as such played up, so perhaps a move would do him good.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
