Question of opinion

Is a top 5 pick (for example) termed a high pick or a low pick?

Some people call it 'high' because they are the 'top' players i.e a high pick is the best you can get whereas some people call it a low draft pick because numbers 1-5 are lower (i.e. smaller) than numbers more than 5.

So ultimately, is Scully going to be a high draft pick or a low draft pick?

ALways wanted to sort this out.

Low draft pick.

As your talking about the actual pick, then the pick itself is a low one. If your going to say high, meaning high quality then you can't refer to draft pick, but rather the player.

I know what i'm trying to say but I think I sound crazy going on what I just wrote

Someone explain it for me. I suppose it depends on your way of thinking. The common term is high draft pick I think.

IMO an early draft pick is referred to as a high draft pick. A later pick ie 4th, 5th round picks are referred to as low picks.

ie. much like the ladder. 1st, 2nd is higher; 16th is lower.

2 posts.2 different opinions. I agree that they are called high draft picks..but technically they should be 'low'?

You would get most people saying High as it is lingo that is used by the media.

Logically/technically it is low. The draft pick/number is a low one.

Shot at goal, shot on goal, Kick at goal, long bomb, snap,.....

Alot of the recruiters refer to them as what 'round picks' ie 1st round, etc and call them high draft picks.

Fwiw, it doesn't really concern me.

I'm happy with 1,2,11,18,..,. & PSD#1.

I think 'early' and 'late' is easiest if you're speaking in relative terms.

Otherwise 'the 'round' number is handy shorthand, but there's a massive disparity between 1 and 16, 17 and 32, etc.

early or late it is. from now on if someone says high or low draft pick without elaborating im going to crack the shits

You can still use LOW or HIGH, it just needs to be qualified.

High or low ORDER, high being 1, 2, 3, etc. - an EARLY pick

High or low NUMBER, high being a LATE pick.

But LATE or EARLY are perfect in this case.

Glad we had this discussion.

Ironic that a discussion about semantics could have been arguably Freak's most worthwhile contribution to this forum so far...

I would refer to the lower numbers being 'high' draft picks.. i.e. a 'high first round' pick would be top 5 selections.

I look at them as a list going down a page, with high picks at the top and low picks at the bottom.

Aces high.

High or low draft pick without elaborating...

I know, I'm cruel.

Is a top 5 pick (for example) termed a high pick or a low pick?

Noone will ever really know.

Noone will ever really know.

I think its termed an "extremely high pick" as opposed to a "really high pick" (pick 8), a "very high pick" (pick 10) or a "high pick" (pick 11).

Also you have a "sorta high pick" (pick 20), an "medium high pick" (pick 24) and a "high medium pick" (pick 29).

Don't get me started on the medium or the low picks.

Glad to be of service.

High or low draft pick without elaborating...

:D

Keyser...what about our pick 18 ? Sorta-high-sorta pick ?

I won't elaborate either rpfc....

Keyser...what about our pick 18 ? Sorta-high-sorta pick ?

I won't elaborate either rpfc....

Simple. Its a Sorta-Sorta-High Pick.

Its highly scientific.

I formulated this hypothesis using calculators, bunsen burners and such.

Shot at goal, shot on goal, Kick at goal, long bomb, snap,.....

Me too Low Tower!

Isn't it called a high draft pic as then number 1 is put up on the board, its at the top, usually quite high. Hence even though its a low number, its higher up the ladder so to speak...
