Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

21 years old!

Got drafted 2006. So been in the system 3 years now! Which a lot of people think it takes 3-4 years in the system as a forward to relise potential?

Dont give a two hoots where he was drafted in 2006, its 2009, he has added body mass and had experience in the system. You cant honestly think just cause of where he was drafted we dont have to give up to their needs?

So lets say Wonna, according to your logic, if we wanted to trade him you would be happy with a rookie draft pick or something along those lines?

The reason for them getting rid of Dawes is for them to get Fev! Their window is well and truly open right now.

Anthony and Fev being the main targets up forward would be good for them.

We get a 21 year old power forward also who is yet to really prove anything other than potential but has lacked the chance to do so. He gets that chance with us

Re his draft pick, I think people's points are that not only has he proven nothing at AFL level, he was also drafted in the middle of the pack, so on what basis is he being valued at pick 18? Unproven potential? Give them 34 at best then, around where he went last time when all he had to offer was unproven potential.

Wonna is no comparison. Proven AFL player v unproven AFL player.

Dawes has not lacked the chance to prove himself, the Pies have been screaming for tall forwards. Why would you offer pick 18 for someone who has not taken their opportunities?

Why would you offer pick 18 for someone who has not taken their opportunities?

Two reasons:

* They don't rate highly what they expect to be available at pick 18 this year. Nor do I.

* They have seen far more in him that they like than some supporters that post on Demonland.

If they truly are interested I'll back their judgmnent.

I agree i trust our FD to do whats best they will not take a player just for the sake of it if they deem him worthy so be it i would have thought pick 34 at best and just remember every year rumour after rumour not many eventuate good fun and interesting talk though expecially from a melb point of view we hav'nt had that much joy of recent time anyway GO DEE's cant wait to see what happins

With Rocca, Cloke and Anthony in the queue ahead of him at Collingwood, it's been a tough ask.

Don't take such a short term view. Sure, Cloke and Rocca haven't had a great 2009 but take a look at Collingwood's setup since Dawes came to the club at pick 28 in the 2006 draft:

2007: Cloke (40 goals) won Collingwood's B&F, Rocca kicked 55. No room for a third tall with Medhurst a de facto marking player. Dawes played five games in the VFL after recovering from his knee reco.

2008: Medhurst (50 goals), Cloke (40 goals), Rocca and Anthony filled the tall forward positions. Dawes spent the season in the VFL, kicking 26 goals in a crap team and came into the side for six games late, including two finals. He booted three goals in an EF win against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

2009: Anthony boots 50 goals at FF, Cloke 25 from CHF. Sure, Rocca was cactus all year but with Davis (35 goals) and Lockyer (32) playing important roles, there's still limited room for a third slow forward with Cloke in the side.

Now I'm not suggesting Dawes hasn't disappointed at Collingwood this year but it's not as though he's been trying to break into a wooden spoon team bereft of forward options.

With Dawes at FF, Watts at CHF and Jurrah roaming as the dangerous 3rd tall id be very very very happy to get Dawes.

Would rather pick 34 goes to them but I can handle pick 18 cause I rate him pretty highly.

pick 11 will hpoefully be our FF

Don't take such a short term view.

I wasn't.

You can pull up all the useless figures you want, fact is Collingwood has had a tall forward position up for grabs for their last 50 odd matches and Dawes hasn't even earnt the opportunity to showcase his wares for any extended period of time, let alone made a claim for a key forward post. And this in a side known for playing kids.

Who says he couldn't still be?

Just because we get Dawes doesn't mean we suddenly can't draft a KPF as well.

Our future KPF stocks currently consist of Watts and Newton. With thoughts that maybe Martin or possibly Garland could become forward options. Hardly breath taking with the exception of Watts.

We could get Dawes who will be 22 next year and is a big kid and could play now as well as draft another KPF such as Talia or Butcher if he slide that far.

Id like a few options going forward, more than just Watts and pick 11.

Geelong don't have a ton of awesome forwards, none are superstars but Hawkins, Mooney and Lonergan as the back up can get the job done with a strong midfield.

No need to bank on just pick 11 to be the KPF we need, there are no guarantees and we need a few options. More than Watts and a possibly decent player in pick 11.

If they thinhk he can fill this need to have an extra lump in the FP then fine.

It would also mean we could take another small quick at 11.

Just one thing - never heard of Chris Dawes...

Where do all these no-name Collingwood players come from?

We'll see next week.

But I still think we need to trade out some players more than trade in...

Nothing useless about facts that support a contention.

Fact is, Dawes earned his place in Collingwood's 2008 finals side and booted three goals in a winning elimination final away from home. That tells me he's got something.

2009 has been Dawes' only disappointing season. If we can grab a 21-year-old key forward with a strong body with a 3rd round pick in a compromised draft, I'm all for it.

The one big strength for Dawes is his contested mark ability - so i think any comparisons to Johnson should end.

I like the look of him, from what i've seen of his career so far. Works hard for a big man, but not the most agile forward going around.

But i've got to question why he hardly had a look in the Collingwood side, when they've been screaming for a decent tall forward all season, since Rocca got injured at the start of the season.

How about this

3 way deal Melbourne, Sydney, Collingwood

Melb

Get - Dawes & pick 22

Give - Pick 18

Collingwood

Get - Pick 18

Give - Dawes & pick 30

Sydney

Get Miller & pick 30

Give Pick 22

Effectively we swap Miller for Dawes & only go back 4 spots ... just an idea.

Gives Pies a chance to then offer

Carlton Pick 14 & 18 for Fevola ... all based on how much do Pies really want Fev.

Cause they are big and useless. He can't get a game ahead of Leigh Brown. NEXT

Leigh Brown is 27, solid bodied and mature, and played consistently good football this year. Dawes is a pup. That's like saying Jake Spencer must be a complete dud because he couldn't get a game ahead of Paul Johnson during the year (weak example but same point).

NEXT.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
