Unless he has majorly infringed, this is not a good thing to do - especially with a young list we're trying to gel together.

Brock doesn't hold back, I thought he would be a bit more diplomatic than that.

What right has Brock McLean to talk about a teammate''s future?

He's got way ahead of himself.

Juice , "what do you think of Brock McLean's future?Bit slow don't you think?"

I dunno, I think I prefer blunt honesty from player than the usual bland cliches.

What's the alternative? Something like:

"Yeah, Juice has got plenty of talent and he could be anything, it's just up to him now. He's had a great year at Casey and shown some important glimpses at senior level. He could be a really important player for our club and we think he's going to play a big role next year."

If Brock is as frustrated as we are with his teammate's efforts, I'd rather he speak his mind than trot out platitudes.

mclean should mow his own backyard before his neighbours, he must be joking, one of the slowest players in the AFL, and lucky to spot someone past 30mtrs.

So we are all allowed to sit behind our notebooks and write all those things about Juice, but as soon as a teammate expresses publicly what we all think, we ridicule him?

If i remember correctly, Brock said similar things about Col Sylvia at the family day this year after Sylvias was suspended. That seemed to have a positive effect.

Pot\kettle about consistency this year Brock.

The sky will fall for Rhino if it happens. Go to his house and put him on suicide watch he's told us all year that this couldn't possibly happen. It would be unlike Rhino to be wrong.

Not at all i just think it creates a dangerous precedent if players start to criticise each other in the press, they should keep this in house it shows disunity.

We could have a special players forum on here called getting it off your chest.

How did this thread turn into a vehicle for idiots to criticize an underdone Brock McLean?

Ridiculous & embarrassing.

Didn't sound like a criticism to me, just honesty.

I just had the best laugh

Search Newton and go back to the posts from 2 years or so ago. People who have recently bagged him were saying things like, 'you can't buy a football brain like his, 'he works hard and has a very good kick on him'. LOL

No offence to Newton but it's fair to say he has plateaued.

I have no problem with what McLean said at a primary school in country Victoria. Players are often more honest and open in those forums and if I were to guess I believe that McLean knows that Newton was tapped on the shoulder at seasons end. They will try to trade him but will likely fail and then seek a buyout. Onwards and upwards.

Nah, He was being honest, not disparaging in any way. Juice would admit the same. Hasn't been able to string games together. COnsistency is a problem.

You're reading too much into it.

I'm stunned at peoples' bitchiness here...

What Brock said is completely fair enough, and is on the generous side. He is compliemntary about Juice, says he's got all the gifts but hasn't put consistency together. The same stuff has been said about Sylvia for about five years, by the man himself and his team-mates.

If Brock had come out and run off a few tired cliches, people would be on here saying he's a robot.

Personaly I applaud him for the honest answer. It seems to me that Juice's entire time at the club has been punctuated by examples of individuality. It's perhaps a long bow to draw, but if he isn't exactly a team player, and his form has been disappointing, then he HAS to be in the gun. This is an AFL list, and it's going places. It's success in 3-7 years can't be hurt by hanging on to guys who hurt team cameraderie, especially ones who have only proven their talent... NOT their capability to put it together for 22 rounds plus finals.

I think if he's retained next season, unless he comes on and owns a KP spot, then he HAS to go. Unlike most keyboard heroes on here, I'll admit I have no idea what his future holds, but given Brock's comments, I now hold severe doubts. Especially looking at the list, and that we have to find another player to vacate the list now that JMac is going on next season.

It would be unlike Rhino to be wrong.

HA!

I agree.

McLean wasn't overly harsh - he said Newton had the ability (which many here disagree with) but said he hadn't been able to string consistent games together. Given Newton's been in and out of a cellar-dwelling side with a number of injuries that's a pretty fair comment.

I don't think this suggests we're going to pay Newton out. Would it be beyond belief that McLean simply didn't know or forgot that Newton was contracted?

Or maybe Brock accidently, off-the-cuff, let out a bit of info thinking it wouldnt go very far.. being a local rag an all..

or maybe it was on purpose and he just wanted to give us fans some good news..

either way, as mentioned in above posts, he should be the last person doing it after the dog of a year he had.

In no way could M. Newton be apart of our future plans. No offense. Had a go, didnt work out..

Why not do it now.. Pay up and be done with it?

Keep a fringe player that on the list that is in contention to be a 10 year player.. like Valents, Bartram, Hughes...

It may of influenced sylvia by giving him a slight wake up call.

Who knows might happen to juice.

I know it's been asked before but who in his right mind offered Juice a 2 year contract in the first place?

Posted
I'm stunned at peoples' bitchiness here.

Hardly.

I'm not interested in arguing about this, suffice to say I don't think it's the job of one player to comment on the attitude and form of another.

I thought it wsa strange that Newton was the only senior listed player to play for Casey last week and coming back from an injury only reasons for this is to prove t othe club he is worth keeping or prove to other clubs he is worth picking up.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
