The Anthony Morabito thread

Is that why everyone says he will be Adam Goodes mkII? Cos he looks heaps like him?

Cos he plays the game in almost exactly the same way, has the same athletic qualities and is a dead ringer in terms of body type/ shape.

A few cm shorter though I think - but still growing.

Looks nothing like him though, don't know what you're talking about.

yeah I know about his game, he's definitely got that Goodes-style x-factor and ability to break a game open.

He reminds me of Goodes looking at the photo...don't know why

Why is that DemonDan? I've said from the start pick 2 is a toss up between Morabito & Trengove for me. I just lean towards Trengove for leadership. But I'll put my faith in the FD to make the best decision for the club.

They both impress me fwiw.

yeah I know, doesn't do him justice....one of these then...

IN BOLD:

Agree. Almost totally. Id just take the 'x-factor' quality over the 'leadership' quality. Think we're right for leaders. Its a good bet either way really- Ive always thought that. Just hope we dont take the gangly Butcher.

THE PHOTO:

Your a shifty bugger!

You know what that 1st photo you posted looks like. Like that guys whole arm has disappeared into his butt.

:o:blink:

Dont know if the new ones are any better..;) Certainly didnt sit well with 'the enforcer!'

Still.. dont need to be purdy to play footy..

Yeah, IMO he has the most 'x - factor' in this years draft.

http://www.footballnation.com.au/the-afl-d...thony-morabito/

Not bad for only 6 games..

A couple of seasons with kicking coaches and with natural progression, he may get to that Elite level..

RE: Scullys kicking is definately not elite at pick 1! So there's a certain element of risk-even with the most certain pick.

I dont want to hear about "X factor" this year for pick2, maybe for the later picks, but not pick2. Dont even mention the word! X factor spells moments of pure brilliance shrowded in inconsistency. I want polished skills, fundamentals and willingness to do the tough stuff.

Unfortunately all too often people get caught up with haircuts and flashy goals during recuiting, like selecting a Dale Thomas/NicNat over a Murphy/Rich type player. Bailey was right in saying he wants kids that can kick the footy, because that is what the game is about. Judd and Ablett arnt the most flashy players in the comp but they get you premierships!

Morabito article, for any of you guys that are sussed out about the "go home factor", he is here to stay if we pick him.

"I have had a few meetings, and to play in the AFL would be a great honour so I would be happy to go anywhere - but to play in your home state would be a good deal as well,". He seems like a pretty level headed guy and it would be awesome if we picked him up, he looks like an absolute gun.

Spot on. Same goes with Rohan.

X-factor vs Leadership...

Hard one. I think Rich has swayed me a bit here, but pick #2 comes with a fair bit of attention. Therefore, I kind of want less speculation, more trustworthiness.

That, and we need a midfield. Pure and simple.

Good point. Of course it would be ideal if we had both rolled into one. 'X' factor & leadership. Hitting two birds with one stone....so to speak.

how much leadership do we want? isn't scully, grimes and mc lean enough? and you could probably add a few others to the list. i reckon we need to take a risk, playing it safe isnt always the right option, just look at the tiges, deledio and tambling. Morabito is a rare kind of player, he is tall, can play midfield and forward, has pace, and also has the X FACTOR. And dont forget our recruiting staff have compared him to pavlich, who wouldn't want a pavlich in their team?

This is your interpretation of the meaning of the word/term "x-factor"

Maybe it means: 'moments of pure brilliance shrowded in consistency and team play.

This is how i would describe Liam Jurrah!

And for people considering the 'Leader Vs X-factor' scenario:

A] Heard of the saying - 'Too many Chiefs..'

(Grimey,Watta,Mclean,Davey,Moloney+senior players Bruce,Green, Throw Frawls in from the Back-half..Scullys even been touted)

B] haven't heard anyone say that Morabito wont be a future leader, if needed anyway!

But [censored]..we could sure use a 'Pavlich'!! ;)

I believe this is why I would have A. Davey as my next captain.

Although the last year or so, his 'x-factor' qualities have quietened down a tad, (..a tad)

His Leadership qualities have sky-rocketed in the same time frame. I guess the introduction of Jurrah, Benny and Jetta has really thrown him into that role.. personally i couldnt be happier - and he seems to relish it.

...spoil the Tee Pee?

Basically yeah! ;)

Like dis-harmony over whos way is the right way!

MFC are right for leaders

J-Mac - Captain

Bruce/Green - V. Captain

Grimes - Dept V. Captain

Frawley - backline senior/capt (however you may term it)

Davey/Moloney - mid senior/capt (A. Davey - MFC Captain 2011 / Moloney to take this role on Daveys appointment)

Watta - Future Forward senior/capt

Theres 8 names without even mentioning McLean or Scully..

No need to be cynical, wasnt trying to define "X factor". I was giving my view on the attributes we should be looking for when drafting pick 2, which has a lot more logic than reading a article by someone which refers to Morabito as "Pavlich like".

Having said this, if we recruit Mora, he will be better than Pavlich! :D

You gave a definition tho.

Yes- i do know what you were getting at and agree whole-heartedly.

Thing is, i think Morabitos skills are really good. A couple of Moras handballs were as quick and classy as Scullys. No Doubt. In his highlights he misses a couple of foot passes, throw in another couple of poor decision-making incidences (but that can be easily recified) but overall his kicking was good. A good mark too.

Remember, Scullys kicking has been in question at times too.. Trengove hardness.. Butchers everything.. ;) Everyone will have 1 or 2 things to improve on/are improving on..

ATM- i dont think its risky to rate him at no.2/top 3.

The Camp will expose him if he's suspect and we'll go Trenny or ? anyway.. ;)

EDIT: ..and Mora seems thrive on the 'tough stuff' as you put it earlier.. which is cool

Just an update/some links..

Morabito won the Rising Star, ahead of Jetta

Good article, he's very independent for a 17 y.o. and sounds happy to come east..

Although is presently injured with a thigh and battling to be fit for the Camps! :o

Heres a couple links for anyone interested: 1st 2 articles are gold! He sounds very smart & down-2-earth..

  • 3 years later...

Really got to feel for the kid, absolute tragedy, nice kid and really dedicated. David Parkin was only on the radio yesterday saying how he had some discussions with Morabito during his rehab and he had known him from the age of 15 when he assisted his(Morabito's) local club Harvey Bulls in tough times. Parko spoke of how positive Morabito had been during his rehab.

I know from speaking with recruiters in WA that halfway through 2009, Trengove had not really shown much an we all know how well he finished off the year. At that stage I was told Scully and Morabito would be heading to Melbourne if we managed to get a priority pick. Well we all know what happened with OUR FUMBLING managing to get us a priority pick and now we end up with Trengove and neither Scully or Morabito at the Dees.

Just hope somehow the kid can lift himself again and get through this latest setback. In full flight he is a joy to watch.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
