Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In that example above, Freo didn't come into the equation. If they're the one team we beat, surely they could go the rest of the year winning nothing?

If Fremantle finishes on 16 premiership points or less, they will qualify for an end of first round/start of second round PP, meaning that they will get the pick after the premier (whether that be 17, 18 or 19), with the following pick, and all subsequent picks, determined by ladder position.

If Fremantle finishes on more than 16 premiership points, they get no PP of any sort.

Why have the .5 in there when it's simply not possible? Why can't they just say 16 points or 4 wins or less?

As others have said, it's to remove confusion. There's no way a team can get 0.5 points. There might possibly be a rule whereby a team loses 1 premiership point as punishment for something (I have no idea what), which might be one reason why they didn't choose 17.

god help us, but if next year we only win four games or less, what happens then. Do we still get a PP somewhere in amongst goldies picks? From memory the first non gold coast pick is number 5 so would we get pick 5 and 6?

No priority picks next year or the year after. Possibly even the year after that (can't remember)

To me, 1 and 3 is essentially 1 and 2 in this draft. There is one standout and about 4 or 5 even players.

Tom Scully is the #1 pick by a fair margin, but then the #2 pick would be Jack Trengove by a fair margin. Trengove is easily the #2 pick ahead of the likes of Butcher, Morabito, Lucas, etc.....

Hopefully though, the WA teams do not pick up kids from out of their state. If we were to finish bottom of the ladder (IMO Freo will finish 16th) then we would be stupid to not take both of Scully and Trengove.

Thats a good thing i believe. Imagine were 2 wins after round 14 next year? We would be right back in the same position were in now!

Agree. From what i have seen of trengove he could quite easily become a better footballer than scully. Larger body and more exsplosive. Thats my question mark on scully, does he have the body to be a player of the likes of judd or ablett!

If Trengove is clearly the #2 then we have little chance of picking him. West Coast are tanking hard and aren't even trying to hide it.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...2-19742,00.html

Article in the actual paper had a list of 10 very questionable moves that West Coast made. Mostly in the last quarter. The players aren't tanking though so hopefully they can put one over Worsfold and win a game as they have 3 very winnable games ahead.

Melbourne getting the PP doesn't give us an advantage it just puts us on a level playing field. (Thats still not really level when you consider the draw and the amount some clubs spend on coaching and development)

Can someone please clarify.

If both West Coast & Melbourne have 16points or less at the end of this year (forget about Freo) and West Coast finish lower than us on the ladder, do they get PP 1 (as they finished lower this year) or do we (as we finished lower last year)?

Thankyou. I suspected as much and this is not good after last weeks WC performance. Does this mean we need to be as blatent as them to lose not only games but % for Scully?!?!?!

I hate it and I hate the system!!! There I was yesterday, talking to my brother about going to the footy tomorrow and hoping that we lose. Don't get me wrong, I am all for chasing the PP's and want the Dees to List Manage as best as they can, I also realise that to do that we can only win one more game...I understand it all and i know that it is for the benefit of the club long term,but.....it does not change the fact that I hate feeling like this.. My 5 year old comes with me most weeks and to him he just wants the Dees to win...maybe it is that simple..I just want the Dees to win. A bit of a ramble, this post but I think that it might sum up the feelings of a lot of us. The PP system is counterintuitive to competitive sport and now that we are right in the thick of it, the contradictory nature of it i.e. to win we have to lose, is really starting to hit home, for me at any rate. I read posts where we attack each other for our respective views on this most contentious of issues and it saddens me. We must accept each others point of view as there is no right or perfect answer to this most vexed of issues. Once again, sorry if this is a bit rambly!

Yes, we get it, you hate it.

Your post would sound less 'rambling' if you didn't spend half of it deviating from the topic and apologising for rambling.

FOR GOODNESS SAKE !!!!! CRIKEY !!!IT WAS A SIMPLE ! OBVIOUS WRITING( OR THINKING ) ERROR !! WITH THE 16.5 HE MEANT 18 PTS..

AS MY MOTHER USED TO SAY --JACK THE BLIND MINER COULD SEE WHAT HE MEANT,,

ALL THIS FART ARSE FUSSING OVER A SIMPLE ISSUE..

TALK ABOUT DRAMA QUEENS....

16 POINTS IS THE CUT OFF-- ANYMORE AND THE PP IS LOST FOR ANY TEAM !!!

Wrong!!!!

20 points is the cut off, you have even stated 18points (=16.5) in your post, but then followed up with 16  .

I think you were probably trying to say 4 WINS (no more than 5 WINS).

But let's no make too big a fuss about it. My only concern is that too many numbskulls take what is written in some of these posts as FACT and are too lazy to check them with a credible source (like that AFL website) then proceed to regurgitate what they believe to be true in other posts and create a frenzy of vitriol and unnecessary feeling angst.

I understand your frustration. ;)

Are you being ironical?

Because you haven't provided references...

And I think you're wrong - Richmond and NM are no longer eligible for PP after the 1st round because of their 18 points.

Not the most reliable source but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_draft_pick :

"Teams would receive a Priority Selection only if they finished the season with fewer than 16.5 premiership points.

If a team finished with fewer than 16.5 premiership points in two consecutive seasons, then their Priority Selection is taken before the First Round."

I got this from the AFL website (I hope it works as a link but otherwise cut and paste it into your browser) and it seems to say less than 5 wins. That to me suggests less than 20 points. Have a read and see what you think. ;)

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
