We have a president that is in Hospital fighting cancer, a captain, coach and senior player stating in the media that this one is for Jimmy and the coach bringing back some names that we have all seen plenty off.

If we don't win the backlash that will be directed at the club will be enormous.

Forget draft picks this is a must win game for our club.

4 quarters of sustained effort will do me, oh yeh and at least 3 goals each quarter

Nobody is falling apart, and one game does not make any difference.

If we win by 100 points, are we all of a sudden in contention for a flag next year? Is Bailey all of a sudden the messiah?

Seriously, people need to stop being so blinded by weekly performances.

If we played Geelong tomorrow, would people be annoyed if we lost, because we "didn't do it for Jimmy?".

As long as we play with the right level of intensity, and don't [censored] ourselves in the first/second/third quarter, before coming alive in the last when the pressure is off, that's a satisfactory result for all involved.

Jimmy will rest comfortably knowing we just stole the PP off West Coast if we lose. He is not a short-sighted sort of guy.

Bull...the attention is on us, if WC smack us, we will get crunched by the media, if we have another close loss, it will gut the boys further. THEY need this win, coz if they lose nothing will inspire them.

To me its more about a bit reputation, some pride. I understand i loss wont make much of a difference to us.

But imagine what i good win could do, for jimmy fans and other watchers.

Jaded is wrong because we aren't playing Geelong we are playing West Coast a team that is in the bottom half of the ladder and rebuilding. Even if Jimmy wasn't sick this is a game that we have to win. I'm sick of people saying"as long as we are competitive for four quarters or our intensity is up for four quarters" rubbish this is the minimum we accept every week.

Against teams is similar positions to ours we need to beat them, this has to be our line in the sand game, not just for Jimmy but also for us supporters that go and watch them play week in week out. I'm sick of lossing we have had three years of rubbish and to be honest IMO we haven't improved from last year the only difference is we are a more negative team that is intent on not getting thumped rather than trying to win games.

If we don't win we will get under 10,000 people at the port game and that will be a disgrace.

Each to their own.

I guess some of us are not blinded by three bad loses, or one meaningless win.

I too am sick of losing, and it will be nice to win, but in the long term, a win or a loss will mean absolutely nothing. In fact, a loss is technically going to be classified as a win.

There is no doubt in my mind that we will actually win this game, and by a fair margin too, but if we don't, I'm not gonna slit my wrists or go on a massive killing spree, because win or lose, we will be in the exact same rebuilding phase as we were in round 1.

As for the media, 5 weeks ago we were "the best worst team ever", now we are simply "the worst team ever"... that's reactionary [censored] if ever I've seen it

Let's not forget the motto, "You're only as good as your last game."

For the record Melbourne were awful last week. West Coast played well in a cyclone to beat last years Premiers in Hawthorn.

Whatever the result tomorrow, the side will continue to rebuild. Alot of posters on this site didn't want to win this game against West Coast. Recent events may have changed their view which is understandable.

But I'm tipping those who think "THE CLUB WILL FALL APART IF WE LOSE" against West Coast will be the same senseless individuals who will not want Melbournefc to win against the likes of Port, Freo and North in a few weeks time, so we can gain picks 1&2. Go figure.

I couldn't care less about draft picks never have, I want us to win as many games as possible, but tomorrow is a character test. I accept the player development and we are developing a team for the future but tomorrow is a game that we should win for the development of our players.

The club won't fall apart I agree with that, but if we don't fire a shot tomorrow each players character will be judged and there desire to play for our club will be heavily assessed.

If we get beaten convincingly the club will fall apart.

Well, that's [censored]...are you part of the media? Talk about sensationalism.

NFI. I bet you are one of those supporters who keep knocking the club, even when the side is winning. As if the club will fall apart. It hasn't fallen apart for 151 years. Amateur.

If it happens are you're seriously going to tell me that the media won't care. The media will tear us a new [censored]. This is the stuff that they will say and write about. They couldn't even fire a shot for their sick president. They now have a stand in president and a coach who has won only 4 games in 2 years and they have just lost to a team that hasn't won an interstate game for ages.

If you haven't noticed they have gotten into us for the last month then you have lived under a rock. They are ready to pounce now that Wallace and Laidley have left mark my words all the pressure is on us.

I'm hoping for the team to have a red hot go, if we win it's a bonus, but I can handle a loss if we lose. It will get ugly in the media if we drop our bundle and get smashed, but it won't affect my opinion of what's going on with the team.

FWIW I think we are going to win and would have been a good chance even without the emotion of Jimmy Stynes and his illness.

As far as falling apart is concerned, really?

West Coast finished 15th last year but last Saturday night, they beat last year's premiers. I don't see the Hawks falling apart and I don't think we would come into that category if we lost to the Eagles a week after their win over Hawthorn.

As for what the media says or thinks :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

It's been such a long time that I wouldn't remember. I think the club has fallen apart plenty of times in the last 20 to 40 years.

Of course we are still going to rebuild but you don't get 50 years to rebuild and that is how long it will look like if we lose easily, the media will probably go a bit easy if we are competitive.

Personally I hope we win for Jimmy, but my opinion is that we would be better off losing easily and falling apart so we can start again cause I think Bailey has stuffed up the rebuilding process and we have to rebuild the rebuilding process.

In these situations you dont judge the team on the scoreboard. If they lose narrowly after trying their guts out, does that mean they dont care for Jimmy. Like Johnny Farnham I think we'll win, but Ill be proud of them if they put in their most commited display and its not good enough!

Posted

If we win, the story will be 'Did it for Jimmy'.

If we lose, even in a big way, the story will be 'emotionally exhausted demons'.

Come on, who would sink the boot in now, huh?

And personally, I despise this 'do it for x' stuff. Does it mean you don't care if you don't win a game of football in the same calendar week?

Some of the OUTS we have also seen plenty of

Thats why they are OUTS

IMO 2 of them should be permanent

The way I see it we lose out either way. If we win people will say how we did it for Jimmy and how come now we can win and it shouldn't take our President to get sick for us to find motivation to win. And its true. It should not take our president to get cancer for us to suddenly find spirit and motivation to win.

On the other hand if we lose then my god the media will be all over us. Saying how spiritless we are and not doing it for Jimmy and we are heartless. I really really hope we win but in reality we are not playing good football. But I have pencilled this win in for awhile. And I hope we do.

In my opinion all this talk of tanking is just that, just talk. I am against tanking and have said so many times on this site.

We arnt good enough to tank, we simply cant win a game, tanking implies the ability to win.

But here is something to talk about, forgetting how to win. Geelong has a belief in their ability to win from any position

and they most often do. That is built up from winning, just winning, something our senior players should be installing in

our many young players. You can only lose so long before it becomes a habit.

We need to win todays game simply because we can. Now is the time for body on body, gut running, accurate kicking

and accountability with their opponents.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
