Really the only thing holding him back is his kicking for goal. Every week he seems to kick 2.3 or 2.4. If he could improve that just a little bit he'd be in the team and probably kicking 2-3 every week (bearing in mind he'd probably get less shots for goal in the AFL). I reckon that would place in the mix for being one of the tall forwards in the long term along with the likes of Bate, Watts, Jurrah, Martin and Garland.

I agree he needs to work on his kicking for goal... And that his kicking for goal in that Adelaide game was atrocious... But given the way the rest of our forward line has been operating, I'd take a full forward who isn't a great shot for goal, over leaving him out and not having our forward line work as well...

It's not like he'd be the only full forward who has been having trouble kicking for goal... Look at Cam Mooney of late...

Newton is simply not up to it.

What more can you add to innumerable posts that say the same thing?

This is a dead issue. Amen.

Spot on, great to hear from you again Bob

I'm not interested in "causes".

If Newton plays consistently well enough at Casey to warrant selection, then he gets selected. If he plays for Melbourne and fails to do the team thing, doesn't kick goals and provide forward defensive pressure, then he goes back to Casey.

That's all there is to it.

Spot on.

As useful as a golfer that cant putt.

It's not as he has a year to go after this one on his contract so it will keep coming up until either he or someone else steps up to take a key fwd role.

I've defended Sylvia to the hilt and urged patience with him beause you could see he had talent, just lacked in discipline and work rate, and struggled with injury.

I can't do the same with Newton. I don't dislike him, but he just isn't an AFL standard footballer.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
