If this is official I cringe to think that we may lose a big man during the game - the bench is full of midgets .

Is there any chance whoever flies over with us as emergency might get a game? Are there any other injuries they've not informed us about? I want to see Grimesey in as much as the next man, but on a ground like Subi when he's as underdone as he is?

I've skimmed through the other threads and I didnt find out what is wrong with Wonna that he is out for 5-6 weeks. Can anyone help me there?

I don't understand this maybe it's just good list management. I thought Grimes was very ordinary last week can't believe he got over 20 touches it got me to thinking how much of the ball he will get when he plays a good game. Cheney definately should have got a game ahead of Grimes. Maric keeping his spot is amazing even Newton hasn't played a game that bad clearly Bailey doesn't drop anyone after 1 game. With West Coast small backline Newton should have played I think they will pay for that decision.

Knee injury

the bench is short, but we must remember than in the backline we have three talls listed (rivers, warnock, frawley) in the forward line we have 5 talls listed (robertson, miller, dunn, bate, martin), and PJ named in the ruck.

dunn and bate might be talls that play a bit smaller, but they are of size. we can swing the backline and forward lines around a little for match ups.

my concern is the ruck. have doubts about PJ, but the biggest problem is that other than stef, none of the other talls are capable of pinch hitting in the ruck...

He did get about 26 in that practice match with the Swans.

It's funny you say MFC will pay for it leaving Newton out. MFC will pay heavily for it if they win this game,

not that I won't want to see a competitive showing. But if we beat them over there, we'll beat them over here later in the season.

And that will leave only one more win allowed for the season if we are interested in strengthening the team with an additional

very good footballer. This is one of those weeks that I just want to game to be over with. It will bring WCE up to 3 wins.

The ruckmen situation means we're in for a definite loss in my opinion.

Our backline should have a good day against an ordinary attack, but their midfield, being familiar with the size of Subiaco, and getting first- rate service from Cox (and probably PJ ) will see them walk away with a comfortable win.

As always, we need to sustain a competitive effort for as long as possible, and avoid injuries. If we can walk away (the emphasis here being walk, not limp) with a small loss, that's a big win for us.

On the other hand, a victory interstate at "the house of pain" (more like the house of coke-sniffing toolbags) will be a huge boost for a young team. Regardless of the outcome, this week is win-win.

Recruiting these days is a lot more advanced. Pick 1 and 2 is like Nick Dal Santo and Jarrad Roughead.

You know a lot of people talk about that game against the Bulldogs we won.

I actually remember the first game against Carlton that year at Princes Park

At that stage we were not going to make the eight

and I had begun to think it was time for an early pick. I remember turning off the TV at half time

unable to comprehend how badly Carlton were playing after beating us twice the previous year

and now at Princes Park were just not interested in winning (even at Princes Park). Carlton were obviously way ahead of

us that year. Unfortunately at that stage Daniher was fighting for his future and was not in the same mind set

as Carlton who had had years to adapt to that mind set. We didn't stand a chance, I thought, as I realized

we now couldn't win one more game.

Fortunatley Carlton's recruiting has been bone lazy and I don't think they have recruited well enough to support

the gifted half dozen players they have gained. I remain hoping.

Er, our first game against Carlton in 2007 was at the MCG in round 14 and the half time margin was three points. Don't know why you would have turned the TV off at that stage.

And Neale Daniher wasn't even coaching - his last game was the previous week against Essendon.

Not sure which game you're recalling, but it's not our first game against Carlton in 2007.

Some people are getting stupidly carried away about this priority pick. Our list is going to have no shortage of early draft picks after this season. I can understand why people want to win four or less games, and yes, it would be frustrating to finish with exactly five wins and miss out on the PP, but FFS, the idea that somehow our list is doomed if we win this game (or, for that matter, if we win more than four this year) is paranoid hyperbole.

Agree with your thoughts about recruiting but what people are forgetting is that by the end of the year if this group of players keep improving the dependency on draft picks goes down, how about we see how the season goes before everyone gets to excited.

what you say is essentially coorect however you are overlooking the all but "last petrol for..." scenario building at seasons end. Not only last time to fill up inthis manner but given the 'premium' qulaity of whats on offer for 1 and 2 it would be be as irresponsible to overlook this moment as it is to rely overly on the simplistic view that just ecause you have early picks you get a premiership. Its really about getting the est choices availale at any time and developing them. AT seasons end there are two guns on offer..i WANT THEM BOTH !!
