My thoughts on game v Geelong

Recommended Posts

I think it is safe to say we are a far better team this year. They are making mistakes yes but they are sticking to DB`s game plan of run n carry. When they get it right it looks sensational and they did it a few times today against the best team going round. I really enjoyed todays game and I am excited about our future. Frawley has been the biggest surprise packet this year, much like Garland last year. Rapt to see Stef Martin up forward. It was a good move by DB. We will have an embarrassment of riches in our backline by next year.

Many other positives to take out of todays game!

Today was a test and the lessons learned need to be absorbed. To compete against the best you cannot give them a sniff of an opportunity.

Effort rating : 10/10

Movement of the ball : 8/10 for intention, 5/10 for skill. THe effort was there all day to move the ball forward quickly (more than a couple of weeks ago)

Thnking : 5/10 Still trying to find perfect solution first up. Take note of Geelong who move the ball around until good solution presents.

Have not been a fan of Robbo when he thinks he is a pack mark. Today he lead/presented well and showed the midfield a target, so great to have him back !!

James Frawley's decision making (sometimes) took a little gloss off his fantastic competitive performance. Big Improver, shows the benefits of patience with a kid who works hard.

Stef Martin showed a lot when he moved forward. Gave us a big presence. CAn we cover him from the Backs ??

Miller always provides a contest.

CLint Bartram showed more than potential today. Well Done

Aaron Davey : Silk

Meesen for all the flack he has copped shows a lot of potential. Confidence will lead to improvement.

Lots of positives. Let the kids learn from Bartel, Corey and Chapman. And today proved (via Bartram) that Ablett is human (albeit very talented).

Agree 100%

Your posting mantra is quite obviously "Quality over Quantity"

^^ Ditto.

I thought at times Geelong was going to unleash that burst of goals that would take a hard fought and maybe even honourable loss to an absolute smashing, but everytime we seemed to regroup and put the pressure back on. A game of tantalising glimpses of what the team will be able to do when this side grows up and gets experience and muscle.

I was also impressed with Stef Martin up forward. Like the look of that.

This is something that Many others and myself have been calling for, for a long time. I had to look twice after half time when he was lining up deep in the forward line. He was easily in the best for the forwards for the 1/2 he played. WCE have only 1 power forward which warnok/rivers would get 1st IMO anyway therefore give him a full game there next week and see what happens.

Great to see DB finally starting to throw the side around a little. Martin has one of the strongest set of hands in the side and hopefully can start to read the game a bit better and really put his mark on the side as a forward/occasional defender!

I don't remember Bailey ever bringing in a player and dropping them immediately the following week.

He always gives players at least 2 games in a row, so Maric is safe.

Newton Rnd 1 last year but I am sure there might have been a couple of others.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
