If you want to stop him I would say Barts or Dunn. Dunn maybe the stronger of the two to match Gazzas strength, Both could stay with him aerobically. Maybe both of them at the same time!!!

who would be able to stop the 2009 Brownlow Medalist ( early call i know) this Sunday, is there anyone who would be able to lessen his impact.

either danny green or Mundine. Problem is ablett has an ability to get straight up.

I really think don't put a heavy tag on anyone from geelong rather attack the ball carrier and pressure their disposal, allowing us to concentrate on our game and be as damaging as possible when geelong dont have it. If we go in negative with tags on selwood, ablett, bartel, etc etc we will get smashed by 100pts like late last year.

Bartram or Bruce. But Brucey is also a major play maker for us, so Bartram.

And of course, the second you negate Ablett, Bartel or Selwood step up....

Posted

It will be hard to counter-act or nullify Ablett no matter who you put on him. I would give Dunn, Sylvia and maybe Bruce assignments on him throughout the game, if Bartram plays he can have a small stint too. Rotate on him.

I would give it to one player and provide the challenge. Bruce for mine.

However taming or Ablett will not be solved by that alone.

Unless MFC can provide sustained midfield pressure at all points of the contest then we may as well whistle dixie.

This includes not butchering the ball by hand or foot.

On last Sundays effort, Geelong could just corral us and wait for us to cough it up then swoop.

As a player only days away from turning 25 he's had very little trouble from injury. A rolled ankle and a bit of a calf last year is about all. He's well overdue for a hammy, I'd reckon that might be our only hope. Hell, even Juddy did one eventually.

I think that if we can somehow stop their flow into their forward 50 (this has been a real issue for us previous weeks), then I have the faith in our defenders to outmatch the likes of Hawkins, Johnson and Mooney. It's the midfield that concerns me. If its not Ablett, it will be Selwood, Bartel, Chapman, Rooke, Corey, Enright or god knows who else. Stop the midfield by roughing them up I reckon. Seems to work for Hawthorn.

I'd like to see Dunn and Bartram rotate on him. I think they're our best two options. I wouldn't trust Bruce to cover a pot.

Just saw the betting line for the game. Melbourne +59.5. Ouch.

Also at match odds Betfair has already taken over $66,000 worth of bets on this game. Most games at this stage of the week have only taken around $2,000 worth. So people must be loading up on the Cats.

I'd love us to give the Cats a scare. Can we do that? A scare? Is that asking too much?

Sure is. All the mfc can do against the most consistent and power team of the last two years is stem the flow.

The inclusion of Russell Robertson and Maric would certainly help the Dees in the scoring department, one would think.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
