Give it a rest H!

Nobody needs to read the bickering that goes on between you two. It was great discussion to begin with, but has now turned into irrelevant chest-beating.

Continue through PMs or just let it go.

Anzac Day 92 was a Saturday. We were doing it easily at three-quarter time, 37pts up, I think. Got the first goal of the last quarter (Tingay?) before Essendon ran over us. Think Derek Kickett in defence killed us.

Also remember an Anzac Day game v. Collingwood at Waverley in the late 80s when Darren Cuthbertson took a screamer.

Yea the '92 one was when we were up by 47 points in the last quarter and lost.

I think that the proposed Melbourne vs. Sydney game at Manuka is a clever idea.

When did this idea come into public domain?? I haven't seen anything lately regarding this.

Cheers.

The Sydney V Melbourne game each ANZAC day which was the Barassi Cup was a good idea. A nod to the ANZACS without treating footballers like soldiers.

The last post should be played only at games played ON ANZAC day - it is played to respect the fallen - not a footy marketing tool and therefore should not be played at all games of the round.

Other than that, I don't have any problem with games played on the day. Who cares what Collingwood & Essendon publish, does anyone take them seriously anyway?

My Grandfather fought on the Somme, WW1.

My Father fought in New Guinea, WW2.

When I was a kid, I marched with the old man on Anzac days.

My brother-in-law fought in Vietnam.

We do the dawn service each year.

Hazy, you are correct. I was saying the same to the missus tonight.

Don't you people worry about political correctness! Say what you think. That's what they fought for.

Hope you wear some DEMON Footy socks to the Dawn Service each year.

It's good to hear from the Real side, rather than the media

LEST WE FORGET...

Agree on both the myhthology of Anzac Day and Carlyon's books are informative and respectful accounts of WW1

I found the first of Carlyons books gut renching at times. I haven't had a chance to read the followup but is next on the pile!

Then I came across this book a few years ago.

"A Bastard of a Place" http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/01/...l?from=storyrhs

Very heavy reading at times.

A real eye opener to popular history and what basic labourers who were untrained, under supplied, facing a fanatical elite force had to endure - HEROS. And not just along the track.

Statements from certain football identities along the lines of -we failed the anzacs today.... or other such remarks I really find offensive and have decided to boycot next years game by not watching it. I hope the people who have made these types of statements in the past have read such books as carlyon's and others. This gets my hackles up more then anything else in football to the stage if this sort of rubbish continues the 2 involved should loose the day. (and this is looking past my person feelings towards the 2 clubs) on a somber day what ever happened to being gracious in defeat?

LEST WE FORGET!

Although it was good to hear the media point out that the winning goal kicker this year is a grandson/great grandson of a member of the original landings on the 25th. Quite fitting I thought

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
