We play WCE, Port, Richmond, and Freo at the G.

IF we win this Sunday I think we can say goodbye to that priority pick.

We will finish where we finish and deserve what we will get.

That is all.

Perfectly said.

To be honest you can shuve ya 2 picks back where they came from i want to win games this year after watching the match sunday.

But if we can only win five'ish games is it really worth sacrificing those picks?

This would be our possible team as I see it this time next year...

Frawley Martin Garland

Grimes Warnock Rivers

Morton Jones Bennel

Green Watts Robertson

Maric Butcher Jurrah

Spencer Mclean Scully

i/c Bruce Strauss Moloney McDonald

emergency - Sylvia Dunn Jamar

You can chop and change if you like. You might prefer two ruckmen but we would have tall timber forward and back to help out Spencer.

What do people think?

No Miller?

PJ and Jamar to fight it out for second

ruck option unless Meseen overtakes one

As much as I would hate to see a quality player that we could have had run out with another side I only want them if it is legit. No tanking or some such. Leave that to the other scum teams (not looking at anyone in particular Cartank!). I always thought we did the right thing in rnd 22 2007 and hopefully the football gods will pay us back and punish the evil dudes.

Meesen in the ruck...!

I think Miller definitely has a role.

Buckley in the starting 22 - hopefully he can show us how good he can be this year.

Our draw says to me that if we don't beat Adelaide Cows on Sunday arvo then we will go to the mid-season break with 4 points. We play Eagles, Richmond and Freo at the 'G, that's true. (Why would you put Port on that list? They just beat the Premiers on that ground!!) Essendon in our only Friday-night game for the year could also be a possibility for a win. Apart from that, you would have to say that any other wins would be (large) upsets. So I would say we will win six at an absolute maximum, but more likely four.

If Freo finish bottom and we finish second bottom, what do we get? First (priority) and third (for finishing 15th)?? What if we finish 15th but win five games? Priority pick like we had this year, after first-round? Sorry, my draft knowledge is minimal.

emergency - Strauss Buckley Jamar Warnock

Strauss emergency? That says a lot if you've seen what the kid is capable of.

This is pretty much just football porn, and while I don't usually get involved in these threads, I'll bite:

The big plus is a defence that is just about the only element of the current demons lineup that shows it's capable of reaching the elite level. Why this is is just starting to show... We have a group of tall players that are so fast and agile that they can play small. I'm speaking of guys like Frawley and Garland. Rivers is still the most important defender, if not the most prolific ball-winner. Disagree if you want, but he is the glue that holds it together. It's from defence that everything else will happen. The midfielders will be able to be assisted by delivery, instead of going to fetch their own ball, sometimes under duress, when their delivery is always going to be under pressure. This is why Scully is most important for our number one pick. He is the ultimate link-man who can double as a ball-winner. And by the time he comes in he'll be surrounded by hard bodies.

Put that defence with a midfield that can dominate, or at least endure, then they'll make any forward-line look good.

So with all that said, we now also have a guy with talent like that of Watts who can wander all over the place and win the tough possies, and we also have emergencies that would be hungry for game-time, and would likely be just as good as many of the guys in the 22. Depth was an important factor for the Hawks last year, and has been for the cats in their reign.

revised team is

Frawley Martin Garland

Grimes Rivers Bennell

Morton Jones Davey

Green Watts Robertson/Jurrah

Maric Butcher Aussie

Spencer Mclean Scully

i/c Bruce Warnock Moloney McDonald

emergency - Strauss Buckley Jamar Warnock

Named Warnock twice...........unless youre suggesting we somehow get our hands on Robbie. Also, Warnock plays fullback or he doesnt play at all. He's not the type who's going to contribute much coming off the bench.

As far as tanking goes. We wont tank. And we wont win more than four games. If we do, we do but I can't see it happening.

I would hate to see our club deliberatly tank games. Would be shameful. Makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

no more proof is needed after tonight, we need another tall forward to line up with watts

We might need some patience too.

Gehrig played on a wing in his formative years.

Watts will play HFF when he comes into the side.

I hope the fans give him more time than they have given other players.

I feel for him, he will have HUGE pressure on him. I'm not sure what the par game for him will be, but it will be higher then most others due to all the eggs we have asked him to hold in his basket for us.

Picks 1 plus 2 or 3 are getting closer and closer

oh left out Davey,Aussie, Blease...and Buckley...might create decent depth there. Blease mainly will be the least developed higher draft pick by the looks of things. Buckley well I don't think he is quite there.

Davey in hindsight should be in, probably for Moloney. Aussie for Jurrah is a fair call as well.

guys like Bell may end up trade bait, if we feel these high draft picks will make it.

The thing I like about this line up is PACE and foot skills !!

Each line has genuine pace with the last line being the fastest IMO:

each line also has someone you could argue as an A Grade kick.

revised team is

Frawley Martin Garland

Grimes Rivers Bennell

Morton Jones Davey

Green Watts Robertson/Jurrah

I like it, maybe swap Warnock and Martin around but I do like it. Not sure if Butcher will play much in his first season however? Might have to have Robbo at FF and maybe Strauss, Buckley or Petterd on a flank.

No. It would be pointless winning 5 or 6 games this year, given our priority pick situation. Lets not forget that the GC and then Western Sydney are going to screw the drafts for the next 5 or so years.

We need to get as much young talent as possible, as we can't go on re-building for ever and will have to commit to a group of players and challenge for a premiership (or 2).

The more young talent we have, the better our chances in the long run.

Sure people want to see us win games, but we are only going to win 6 or 7 max. not much difference than 4 wins.

What will be will be.

There is no way the team will try to lose any game this season, even if we are on 4 wins in the last round.

This is where shrewd list management comes into play, but even then it is no guarantee.

DEMONS '10

B: GARLAND, FRAWLEY, STRAUSS

HB: GRIMES, MARTIN, DAVEY

C: BLEASE, MCLEAN, BENNELL

HF: GREEN, WATTS, WONAEAMIRRI

F: JURRAH, BUTCHER, MARIC

FOLL: JAMAR, SCULLY, MOLONEY

IC: MORTON, PETTERD, VALENTI, SPENCER

Bruce and McDonald's form has been poor when your old you have to perform consistantly well or you become a burden they are both becoming burdens.

Robo's coming back from injury so who knows what he is capable of?

We need more run out of defence we currently have to many talls, on promise Garland, Frawley and Martin are slightly ahead of Warnock and Rivers.

I love the way Jones and Bartram have a crack but they just butcher the ball to often.

Bate, Dunn and Sylvia are far too inconsistant.

Miller has no talent he only plays well against the worst defences in the league in Richmond, Freo and Brisbane.

I like Valenti more than Jones.

I have no idea what we are going to do with our ruckman unfortunately Jamar is still our best option.

Don't underestimate Jones. He is playing better than his first year and everyone was rapped in him. He racks up hard ball gets and when we get some more classy runners alongside him, he will make them look good.

Remember we haven't even got Buckley back in who is still young and can still go to that next level. Add in your classy Maric, Grimes and then Strauss and Blease to add to Morton, we could have the nucleus of a very good side.

we would like to force out Bruce with better player coming through, but they are not at that level yet.

NO JONES? seriously people here just have no idea. He is a gun and so hard at the ball. He is 19 or 20 cant remember but he is still 4 years off his best footy.

people are bagging Morton as well on another thread. probably the same who bagged Frawley last year.

most really don't understand how young player usually progress, even star players.

Ablett was a young forward with talent 3 years ago. nothing more.

Ablett always had the talent, even when he was 'just a small forward', he was still bloody good.

Yes he was but a long way off being a very fit on-baller. We need one of our skillful players to lead the way by example - maybe a Maric, a Strauss, Blease and show them how to do it.

I have no doubt we have the talent coming through but we need that player to show the way.

Aussie is one who has all the tricks in his bag actually and was becoming very fit until he got injured. Thats what we want to see.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
