The melbourne football club will win a premiership in 5 years time, why am i so certain, well our club bottomed out just in time,we will only win 3 to 4 games, get priority picks in the last unrigged draft, the next two draft after this year all of the top picks will be going to gc17 the wc18,so the next side to bottom out sydney, st kilda will take 7 years to rebuild, because they will not be able to rebuild their list for 4 years, carlton will not win a premiership with judd in their side he takes up to much of carlton's salary cap, so they will have 6 very good players on their list but they will have no depth at all. they will have good young player that deserve about $350000, but because off salary cap ,they pay those player 250000, they will leave beauce of gc 17 offing big money

Let's say, hypothetically, that we are 4 wins or less this year. We get our two big picks, and after this, in a perfect world, start to make a climb. Say 12th in 2010, then 9th in 2011... If this (or something like this) were to eventuate we would be getting a pick #5 and a pick #8... Assuming there weren't any other priorities. Those are still VERY juicy picks, that any other regular team bottoming out would use to apply the finishing touches to their core. Perhaps even trade one of those picks, plus a player, for another pick in the top 3 or 4. As it stands, if we climb the ladder as suggested above, it will turn our pick #5 into about a pick #12 or so... and the pick #8 into about pick #20.

You're kidding yourself if you think the GC17 club won't hurt us when it comes to recruiting. You could argue we missed the worst of it, but then we're not going to rebuild a side using ONLY the 3 years worth of draft picks we got when bottoming-out. ('07, '08 and probably '09) In fact, if we got close and didn't bring home the biccies when we next are pushing for the flag, I'm sure people WILL blame the GC drafting concessions.

And as for other clubs that will be threats. The Hawks, assuming they cling to their best players, will be one of the major teams to beat in the coming 4-6 years. Carlton will likely be one of those as well, as they have ALWAYS found a way around the financial problems associated with the draft in the past.

There's a lot of water to pass under the bridge just yet.

When will Jack Viney be eligible for the draft? Coz GC17 aren't allowed to touch f/s's from what i understand. He would be a very handy pick up indeed.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
