Apparently at 11 am there will be anouncemount about the MFC being brought back into the MCC. It's a significant deal that will see us as more than just a token symbol under the MCC banner.

SEN has been spuriking this all morning...they are saying it is the most significant announcement in our modern history and guarantees our future forever...they have said the announcement dwarfes all the other great off-field news of recent times.

Pretty exciting

It absolutely does. We can't be relocated, we can't fold if this deal is correct.

We will own the 'G again. Only one other club in the league owns their home ground. Very significant.

This is terrible organisation by the club!! This should have beed done 6 months ago!!!

sorry, that's my fun for the morning, back to reality... This is great news, being part of the MCC again will give us a significant advantage over the other clubs with regards to match day revenue, now we just have to get our crowds up.

HHHmmm i ain't gonna get excited until i hear it, sorry for the negativeness but i hate shite like this until it's offical.

And here's an idea, to celebrate the joining, anyone waring black and white on saturday 4/4/09 will not be allowed entry into the ground!

It's official.

I have press release.

Major AnnouncementJoin Melbourne Football Club President Jim Stynes and Melbourne Cricket Club President David Meiklejohn, along with Club CEOs Cameron Schwab and Stephen Gough, for a major announcement regarding the two clubs at the MCG Today

When: Wednesday 1 April – 10:45 am

Where: MCG, on the arena, in front of the MCC stand

well i am not getting excited until i see it signed, sealed & delivered. after all, today is april fools day, and nova were just saying that juddy is out for the season with a "mystery illness".

if, however, it is legit, then C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Let's hope that this deal puts an end to us playing home games interstate. If it doesn't, it would seem farcical that we're aligned with the MCC, but don't play all our home games at the MCG.

What exactually would we get out of it?

If true this is our future. Not just the foreseeable or the longterm this is the security of our club within the AFL. I don't want to get carried away but if this comes through as it should our board should be owed congratulations of the highest order.

This is MASSIVE if true

do you really think..? I know it would make it harder for them to not help us if we were flailing and there is no chance that we would be relocated...

but, in the long-term, if we again find ourselves in dire financial straits then I'm sure they would cut us adrift.

Doesn't really answer my question.

Having sufferred all the lows we have over the past few decades we need to wait a couple more hours and see exactly has been established.

However, if the announcement is as Andrew Maher was saying on SEN is will secure the future of the MFC "forever". In which case the Stynes board will have answered all our prayers!!.

Just to reiterate what other posters have said, this announcement is legit.

A press conference with Jimmy, Schwab, MCC president David Meiklejohn and MCC CEO Stephen Gough has been called for 10.45am

There is no question that this announcement will see the MFC brought back under the umbrella of the MCC - we just need to wait to find out what the actual benefits of the arrangement will be.

First thought was: April Fool's Day.

But I am going to place my faith in the number of people here who seem to think it's legit. Please let it be so.

im really excited about this!

cant wait!

just hope its no april fools day joke

What exactually would we get out of it?

We don't know yet...but worst case scenario is that it will have no affect on our finances at all.

Best case would be that we would no longer be treated like the other victorian clubs when playing home games at the 'G, as we will be once again part of the MCC then we will receive a much greater portion of the match day revenue.

My guess will be somewhere inbetween.

My understanding is that this story is true. I know that the MCC and MFC have been close to a deal for some time

This is potentially better news than winning a flag, as it secures our future.

But i thought we were already affiliated with the MCC.

First thought was: April Fool's Day.

That was my first thought too.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
