Just heard a guy sitting next to me at the Park Hyatt advise that a Group of people have outlayed $200K on MFC making the 8. Have they lost their marbles?

I am a very passionate MFC supporter and not even I would do such a thing even if I had that sort of cash.

Opinions??

Maybe its the boys at MFC. Would love to think that it were true andthey have that much confidence in where they are at as a team!!!!

I certainly hope it wasn't the MFC... thats all we need... Another gambling issue linked to MFC.

I just hope that its someone who is unlinked to the club, but knows something that alot of others don't!

I know that everyone is saying thats what we did in the NAB cup does not represent anything in correlation to the season proper but I think they played well and just ran out of legs against the Buillies after having to work their ass off in the terential rain the previus week.

I'm afraid I can't get behind betting on a routine basis - family stories and all.

But I'm all for start of year crazy multi-bets - for instance

Demons to make 8, plus Grimes to win rising star, plus Mclean to place finish in Browlow, plus Roughead to win Coleman.

= approaching a million dollars for a ten dollar bet.

Gotta make it so outlandish you don't expect to win. That's the important part - never expect to see your money again.

At $7.50 they're still not giving much away when you take a look at exposed form.

It's much better though than the next best on offer which is $3.50 for WC.

Whilst the AFL season is not quite a horse race (although the Handicapper purports to be doing his honest best) a modest wager now rather than after they've surprised a few people with a bit of form could prove prudent and might provide some excitement later in proceedings.

You'd probably do a lot better on Betfair.

It's not such a stupid idea. $7.50 to be in the top 50%. Those are long odds, even if we're talking about Melbourne. The Bullies were bottom 4 in 2007, top 4 in 2008. Strange things do happen in footy.

You may as well place the money on Geelong to win the premiership for 2009. As for placing ANY money on Melbourne to finish top 8 at $7.50. The boys at Sportsbet/TAB would be laughing. They will need that money anyway to pay out those who backed Geelong to win the P'ship.
