Jack Grimes

Ironic, isn't it? That Swift, my pick for our PP, killed it for the Eagles, and a guy that's been on the list for a year is the one getting taken out of sides. Grimes had no extreme problems with his body before he was drafted either, from memory.

Wait and see I guess... no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater... but I am getting sick of this club's injury list.

I thought that Grimes missed a fair chunk of his last season in the TAC Cup, which wasn't back related.

sidebottom is the go for gumbleton

Sidebottom is about 30K more though isn't he?

I've got Grimes but Hill/Hurley should cover him as emergencies/reserves.

Hoping Old Man Rivers holds up . . . Actually my entire backline are about the most injury prone players possible thinking about it . . .

Where's the irony? What has Grimes got to do with Swift? Grimes missed most of his final year of footy with stress fractures of the back. If anything it supports the reasons why we did not pick up Swift. Has anyone considered that because Grimes has had back issues but we are actually being extra cautious with any issues or soreness he may have in that region. That is good long term management.

Hey Guys, I just heard on SEN that Jack would miss the first month of footy. A bit of a set back but its not the end of the world and at least it wasnt a flair up of the same injury that kept him out last year.

Bugger!!!

Grimesy has arguably been the most impressive of our youngsters so far this PS and was looking primed for a huge year. Here's hoping he doesn't miss too much footy. It might stuff a few ppl's rising star bet's up just a little... :o

Another back injury.

This is not good at all.

Damn, now I have to replace him in my fantasy footy team, oh no I am devastated who can I buy instead!!!! (Kidding, as if i play that crap)

When it comes to back injuries, "missing the first month of footy", is probably the best case scenario or a guesstimate.

Andrew Bogut was suffering back soreness early in the season, and was considered a day by day proposition of returning. When he did return after a few weeks out, he played a few games and then missed the rest of the season.

Call me a skeptic, but I'm worried about Grimes playing senior football before mid-year.

I see. Wasn't aware of that.

Ok. Calm down. I was under the impression Grimes was recruited with little or no injury history. Swift on the other hand has 2 knees before he's old enough to drive... The irony is that (I had thought) we recruited one guy as a relatively injury free blue-collar mid one season, and overlooked the injury prone talent in the next, and their fortunes had reversed.

Clear as mud?

Now that I hear he had a history, that destroys the irony. My mistake. The Swift thing wasn't brought up by me, but if he turns out to be a star I'm going to be pretty [censored], as we could have picked him up. I'm just one of the ones who thought he was worth the risk. As I said above, time will tell.

swift prob will be a very good player possibly star.

But who says blease and straus wont.

I wouldn't call you a skeptic at all! Back injuries can cripple an athlete and the fact Jack has suffered allot of back problems at such a young age isnt a good sign. Lets hope that as he gets older and stronger he can manage it because he could be a great player. Lets hope the footy gods cut us some slack! God knows we deserve it.

Jack Grimes was considered by many scouts to be a top 5 or 6 pick. The reason he got to 14 was because most clubs were loathe to pick him up because of what I heard to be a history of back complaints. I hope this is not related to the same injury or we may have another J Rivers on our hands. Grimer is my greatest excitement about this year, I just hope we see him play at least half a season.

I WAS RIGHT! I told u all 2.5 wks ago he was injured and noone believed me!

While it is bad news!

It gives the other blokes an opportunity. Jetta, Cheney, Bail, Bennel etc.

I WAS RIGHT! I told u all 2.5 wks ago he was injured and noone believed me!

I'm sorry, but how are you still posting here?

Gotta love my fellow moderators and their inability to properly suspend posters...;)

no you're just a muppet who wanted to spread vitriol about our players.

i'm glad you are taking joy out of a relatively serious injury that an up and coming player has sustained.

Flikker op, occo, you are a [censored] of the highest order.

I thought this fark was banned for a year.

He is... now... administrative error.

Sorry all, carry on.

This must be so frustrating for the bloke.

He seems like a tough kid though.

Cheney would have to have a spot sewn up now, surely.

one thing about having such an inexperienced developing list is that there is little difference between players 18~30. In that the replacement for any of them is likely to have played almost exactly the same amount of games (i.e. none!)

Grimes has only played 1 game so if we replace him with a kid on debut we're losing one game of experience! time in the system is a consideration though.

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
