Demons land $2.1 million sponsor

Featured Replies

I believe Lawrie De La Rue (a long tome Demons supporter) was heavily behind this sponsorship.

Might be worth congratulating and pledging support:

........ And another sub-major sponsor on the way. The combined total will be greater than the revenue gained from the Primus deal. Also, I think you will find a another former player from the 90's was heavily involved in brokering the deal.

Can't wait to hear what the ardent critics of Jimmy and Schwabby have to say now.

think you might be on the money fairbump!!

is great news for the club but also for the stynes led group....

another side issue - noted that manly is sponsored by mack trucks, which i believe is run by volvo australia.. now there is a perfect fit for a tyre company!!!

Hrm.

Yes this is a concern, I wasn't aware of this. (2m contingent on us staying in Olympic park deal)

I am fuzzy on the details but wasn't this deal going to be far too expensive for us which is why we were keen to get out of it?

I am excited about the new stadium (it's looking great from the train) but a little concerned about the cost.

Happy, happy days!

Yes, Mr De La Rue was integral in securing this deal (Caro's article says so).

I heard on SEN that there's going to be a press conference sometime today where the Hankook (and possibly the other co-sponsor) deals will be formally announced by the club.

My understanding was that we'd still partly house our operations at MRS (or 'The Missus' as I've heard it called recently) at Olympic Park, but less-so than originally intended.

This would mean a reduced cost in rent, to around $200K-$300K... I think. I thought I read that in an article a few months back.

... or I may have heard it elsewhere. I have a contact involved in the management of that facility, but even she's unsure at this stage. Obviously negotiations are ongoing.

Happy, happy days!

Yeah u would think they would not hold out much longer announcing the second sponsor as they would be keen to start making jerseys with the new sponsor logos on them. I know i am waiting till thats sorted to buy a new jersey

Very good news at last and is timely to see all the efforts have achived a positive outcome!! Will be great if both sponsors are announced and on board this week! Will give us an opportunity to support the sponsors! and the whole club can then concerntrate on footy in the 2 weeks before Round 1.

Bit late for the family day on Sunday but will need to let supporters know about merchandise with sponsors logos - maybe in 3 or 4 weeks time. That way we can thank sponsors for coming on board!

Does anyone know if SEN are covering the big press conference?

The league has been advancing the Demons money to deal with cash-flow issues and is understood to be helping the club secure its second major sponsor, which is understood not to be linked with gambling agencies

I think given the direction the club is trying to take, this is quite good news

"Well done Schwabby and Jimmy who have worked tyrelessly to get this deal over the line. The Demon supporters will be pumped"

Courtesy of a SMS to SEN this morning. I wish I was that witty at 6:30am!!

SEN also mentioned the combined sponsorship deal of Hankook and ???? will be worth $1.5mil a year which indicates the next sponsorship is worth $2.4mil over 3 years (bigger than Hankook). Announcing Hankook early will give them some spotlight before the bigger and more prominent sponsor is announced?

At least this gives me a good reason (for a change) to actually watch the Footy Show tonight. :)

While I am very, very happy that the Demons now have this new (co-) major sponsor in Hankook tyres I won't be totally satisfied until we have our 2nd major sponsor signed up before Round 1.

I wonder who the 2nd major sponsor could possibly be.....???

best news i have heard for the year! well done melbourne football club :)

Great stuff.

I think Hankook will be the only ones confirmed for a week at least as you may aswell give both sponsors time on stage to themselves.

The Primus deal was $1m a year, so this is really promising stuff. Here is hoping that we can turn a couple of the companies that miss out on the major sponsor slot to be second tier sponsors.

Also, in Caro's article she referred to the MCC taking us back (or us going back) and I was wondering whether that means we could share some space in their merchandise store which is much less hidden away at the G.

It's a small thing, I know, but just something I thought about when reading the article.

Excellent news.

No doubt Brock will gave a little demonstration in the car park.

Or at least get cheap replacements!

Maybe he can do an add for them. will last up to 5mins in a burn out!

Just received a club email announcing the Hankook deal. In it there was a link to Red Mercury, which is a service offered by Vodaphone. Is this something new, or just a part of the ongoing Vodaphone gig?

I have never seen that promotion before. Good to see one of our other corporate partners doing deals for the members. I best give them a call to see what it'll take to switch from my Primus phone and internet connection.

Fantastic to see Hankook come on board too, i'll endeavour to support them like I have supported our other major sponsor's over the years.

Not sure about that.

Not sure either about the membership tally on the right, whether its new or not.

Either way, I've never noticed it, but I love it.

He won't be able to.

Hankook tyres have too much traction. It's common knowledge.

 Post of the week!

Hi Demon fans,

I'm with LD Wholesale Tyres, the Hankook distributors in Vic/Tas and new major sponsor for the MFC! Thought it might be a good idea to join the number 1 Demon forum in case any of you have any questions regarding Hankook or LD Wholesale - where to get them, which tyres to choose etc.

We are very excited about the opportunity to be officially involved with the Demons and look forward to a long and prosperous association.

Hope to se some of you at family day on Sunday and at the G throughout the year!

Go Dees!

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
