Big time win by Kyrigios against Seppi tonight. For a 19 year old to come back from 2 sets down is exceptional in a slam. If he can keep his head together he could be anything! I mean his backhand is nearly as good as mine!

Youngest player to reach the quarter finals at two slams since a guy called Roger Federer.

He could be something special. Seems to be a more driven version of Philippoussis.

Amazing win. Love the way he feeds off the crowd and expresses his emotions. Got to keep going for it even when it doesn't work.

His serve looks world class. Particularly for a 19 year old. So when he fills out and gets the body fine tuned it will be a weapon. And he's strong enough on backhand, forehand and volleys with both the power needed and the athleticism.

But it's not skills that make champions it's heart and mindset. Experience helps as well and he got so much tonight!

Watching Murray v Dimitrov those guys are probably a step too far for Kyrgios to beat regularly right now. But the definitive list of guys I wouldn't give Kyrgios a serious show against probably stretches to about the top 10 and that's it.

With a few more results he'll push in to the top 30 which means seedings and regular grand slam draws to get through to the 3rd and 4th rounds and the more of them you stay in the more you get used to competing with the guys at the pointy end.

I'm certainly along for the ride. And I still expect Tomic to produce some good tournaments at some stage. Don't mind Kokkinakis either! Keen to see Sam Groth at Wimbledon serving bullets on the grass!

Well we're going to get at least 4 sets but I'm tipping it goes 5. Could be a classic.

1 set all but the 2nd set to Wawrinka was perhaps more impressive.

Serena Williams the greatest female tennis player of all time?

I think so. The only other contender would be Navratilova, similar power, athletic, big serve, focused mind. That would be a great contest.

Wowee wouldn't it make them play 5 sets

Well, that was some 2nd set ... we could be here for quite some time.

The Joka looks injured but he may be bluffing! But what a match so far!

It's a very hard match to predict.

Maybe whoever wins this set wins the match ... but who knows?

Murray is Gawn! Mostly in the head, unforced errors everywhere in the last 6 or so games. It's the Joka from here on.

Yep, he just fell in a hole ... beware the (supposed) injured athlete hey?

Too good was Novak ... a worthy champion.

That's 5 Aussie opens and 8 grand slam tournaments overall. He's made 2 of the last 3 French finals so he might be able to get at least one of those in the future (Nadal is going for his 10th this year - that's just too many ^_^)

Wimbledon starts on Monday ... both of the following links are constantly updated ...

Ladies seeds, draw & schedule

Men's seeds, draw & schedule

On the Ladies side ... Serena, Ivanovic, Sharapova & Safarova are in one half of the draw whilst Wozniacki, Halep, Makarova & Kvitova are in the other half of the draw.

On the men's side ... Djokovic, Nishikori, Wawrinka & Raonic are in one half of the draw whilst Ferrer, Murray, Berdych, Federer & Nadal* are in the other half of the draw.

There's plenty of Aussie representation as well ... 13 Aussies in all are represented in the singles.

*Nadal is seeded at #10 and is drawn to play Berdych in the round of 16 and Murray in the Quarter finals (if all 3 players make it that far)

What a self-entitled, disrespectful egotist.

Are you talking about Tomic or Krygios?....

Are you talking about Tomic or Krygios?....

As much as I love Krygios' style and entertainment on the court, his performance last night was a bit disrespectful to his opponent and Wimbledon... he wasnt funny last night like his other games...

As for women's tennis, I watched the final and really that match was amazing. Serena is the greatest player of all time. She just belts every ball that comes near her at 100% speed down the lines, it is incredible. Big serve, big forehand, big backhand, amazing athletism and big presence! You watched the game and it was all about Serena from about the third game, her aggression, what she was doing. The poor Spanish girl was valiant but really just a support act in the drama. And what hope did she have because you don't get into rallies with Serena where you can start to work her out and probe her weaknesses. No she just belts balls at the lines in the belief that she can get at least 60% of balls in and that is enough to win. I believe she would have dealt with all the past champions in the same way, Steph, Martina, Margaret Court.

Does anyone else think our talented young men players have overstepped the mark with their outspokenness?

Hewitt was brash, at times obnoxious but he always showed great respect for the game and usually for other players, especially the greats of the game.

Kyrios and Tomic have potential galore but Kyrios' on court behaviour and the media comments of both, make me cringe.  Their latest antics:

Kyrios answers mobile on court: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/australian-open-2016-nick-kyrgios-in-hot-water-after-answering-his-phone-on-court-20160123-gmcphj.html

Tomic puts down Federer (rightly or wrongly I don't know but not very smart): http://www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/australian-open-2016-bernard-tomic-takes-aim-at-roger-federer-20160123-gmcptn.html

Maybe they should let their racquets do the talking until they actually achieve something!

IMO Kyrios is a kid who had Tomic as a peer model for last few years.  outspoken brash is nothing wrong, as its him..... but under pressure it can leave him sounding like a pratt.  I just have wondered what Tomics attitude over the last 3 years has done to Kyrios attitude..

I think Kyrios appears to be settling, after a pressure filled 12 months, & Kyrios is the talented one with agility & speed & court coverage & shots.

Tomic to me is Philippoussis Mk2.... playboy xtrordinare

Dasher IMO is restricted with power

Kokkinakis is ???

Probably greatest tennis player of all time.

Possibly greatest female athlete of all time.

If Usain Bolt wins the double at this year's Olympics then he's the greatest athlete of all time IMO.

Really enjoying the Jokovic vs Federer battle tonight, especially when Channel 7 zooms in on Boom Boom Becker's reactions in the coaches box, as they do after every rally. Meant to add that nothing changes.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
