Davey the new chopper?

He looks massive in that photo!

But they all do this time of year I guess, except for Cale that is.

Yes good pick up, he does look like he has seriously bulked up or they had the muscle-up lens on the camera. It will be interesting to see the changes in bodies over the pre-season.

isnt davey muscling up a bad thing?

i want speed and agility back. that is all i expect

Never hurt Ben Cousins and he had bigger guns than that... not by much though, from the looks of Davey in that photo.

Yikes.

Yes but Cousins can actually play inside as well as Outside, I have my questionmarks re Davey.

I think Wonnaemirri is a better footballer than Aaron.

We'll see how Aaron goes this coming season, as we are gathering more & more talented players each passing draft.

I'd imagine he was told to put on muscle to help address this exact problem.

He gets pushed off the ball too easily and cant lay a front-on tackle. If bulking up helps him improve in these areas (and they're a pretty serious problem, to be honest) then I'm all for it.

The Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson also didn't lose any of his speed when he bulked up for the Olympics in 1988 :D!

I wish him good luck.

so we still want the quick and agile Davey to be pushed off the ball, to play a 'sweep up the ball' role and receiver type, which does little to help us win, when we are getting beaten.

It would be handy if he could hold his own in a physical contest at least, otherwise he can be a liability. I think the fastest bloke in the league won't be lacking pace even with a few extra kilos.

I somehow feel Davey will be twice as valuable when we get back up the ladder, and the team is flying along. Remember he was playing well in his first couple of years when we were playing well.

exactly...and he didnt have all of the muscle, was tiny back then

that is the davey i want back

playing the cyril rioli role

OR, if anything, i remember daniher saying that he wanted davey to be on the wing...so lets put him there as an outside player if they no longer want him to be a forward pocket(and definately not ever an inside player)

his delivery skills can at times be as good as anyones, so if he is not in the forward line, he should be on the wing

I believe that Davey's best footy was played in the forward 50......and a return to that position will also bring back form.

By the way...any chance to see some photo's from training today?

I wouldn't have thought bulking up Davey's upper frame would take away his speed or agility. I'm pleased if he has improved his strength. He'll be able to hold his tackles...

Hussain Bolt didn't lose any speed when bulking up! :D

I attended training this morning - a beautiful day.

It was interesting that neither Brent Moloney nor Colin Silvia were at training.

The group looked good. Brock Mclean looked to still be recovering; Aaron Davey hasn't looked like he lost any pace.

I'm excited about Neville Jetta. His speed and skills were outstanding.

If Cale Morton has put on any weight it must be on his small toe! Though it doesnt worry me, if he has another season like 08' I'd be happy.

I will post photos tonight!

Randomly staying on the topic of Davey, I had a dream last night that our Flash became most dominant player in the AFL.

A good dream indeed! :D

We also have the benefit of being able to look at his brothers, and how their bodies developed. While not a rule, it can sometimes show us a little about how a kid is going to develop if we look at brothers of similar height...

I'm not expecting Cale to even begin to look like a man until he's over 21... For now I'd be happy if he developed the mental/skill side of his game...

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025.
