Demon Heartland

A really great idea get kids involved early and we might have them for life.

Also with newly arrived kids into Aust it helps them blend in and mix with the rest of their age group if they

have something in common they can talk about at school.

As these are bums on seats at games the MFC will get some money spinoff as they contribute to matchday

attendance, a double benefit.

How about if each kid when they arrive at the assigned area behind the cheer squad be given a number

and two numbers be drawn out each game and those two lucky tackers get to go out with the cheer squad

and hold up the banner.

Good idea to pin this as a sticky ...mods ??

Great to see these ideas coming to fruition. $50 isnt going to kill the bank and yet will give a great day out to many. Brilliant.

Bit by bit things are a changing...encouraging isnt it :)

Well on the positive side, everyone I met in pubs along my latest adventure are now Melbourne fans too!

Though yes, unsure how much of a lasting impact they will have.

Very excited about Demon Heartland, very good idea!

Went to St KFC v Sydney last night. Talked to another Saints supporter who is a teacher at a Berwick primary school (which is in Casey).

She said that a couple of Melbourne players came to the school and did a clinic, and one of the kids in her grade has now latched onto Melbourne. It’s all starting to happen, as planned.

Incidentally, she said that the players said they love Casey Fields, and they couldn’t understand why St KFC let go the opportunity.

I missed singing and the guard of honour.

But, I recall that the Demon Heartland kids were to sit near the cheersquad. The club may not have implemented it yet (depends on the level of support by members for the initiative).

I also know that at least some of the kids who got to go on the guard of honour simply responded through the club's website. The ones I heard about don't live in Casey, and weren't Demon Heartland kids - they were MFC junior members.

I should also mention that Bay M1 was graced with the presence of Aussie and Matty Whelan in one of the breaks (Q1 or Q2?) whilst Jimmy Stynes presented himself in Bays 3-4...the Cheersquad ...briefly. It's wonderful to see the Club finally connecting with their everyday and everyweek supporters and I hope it continues.

RD 6 has just passed and Melbourne has had 3 home games at the 'G. I'm a Heartland supporter and was comfortable seeing the RD 1 group in M1, albeit, they needed some red and blue paraphernalia like flags & clappers or caps & beanies to identify themselves. However, since then our Heartlanders have gone missing. We were lucky if anyone sat in those seats when we played Adelaide...just a bit cool and miserable... and on Sunday the area was full of average Geelong supporters.

Where are our Heartland kids?

Hope I haven't annoyed anyone by bumping an old thread but I really hope this initiative continues (along with new initiatives) now that we are debt free and looking to the future. The club has been rigorous so far in getting itself into a sustainable position and I think this will continue at a rate of knots. $50 here goes to a great cause.

Hopefully we can eclipse 35k members next year and continually get more juniors on board.

It's a great idea, but it's all about the execution.

I've bought a couple of these each of the last 2 years and I just trust that the club will follow through in the same manner as they appear to be doing with every other task these days.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
