The club continues to change in the right direction in my opinion. These appointments seem to be about building unity, rebuilding a CLUB.

Melbourne announces key appointments

MELBOURNE has made two football department appointments with Wayne Oswald joining the club in the new position of personal development manager and Craig Notman taking on the football operations manager role.

Notman, who has been Kevin Sheehan's right-hand man at the AFL for the past five years as talent coordinator, replaces Ross Monaghan, who has joined Richmond as its football operations manager.

Oswald said after meeting with Melbourne officials, it was an offer too good to refuse.

"I was really impressed by Jim Stynes, Cameron Schwab and Chris Connolly. They took me into the CEO's office and the boardroom at the MCG. I was a bit star-struck by that anyway, but they were open and honest with where it was at," he said.

"To get it back to where it's been – that's a massive challenge. But they had fantastic vision of where they want to go and anybody that didn't want to be part of that ride really isn't interested in footy – I mean it's the Melbourne footy club."

Wayne Oswald is a fantastic bloke. He previously had a role down at the Sandringham Dragons U18s as the head manager or something and from my personal expierence was a really, really friendly and well rounded bloke. Dresses like a bit of a metro which is odd(funny) considering his age, be round 50 but he is just fantastic. He communicates really well with younger kids and is the type of bloke if you were at a footy club you'd want to impress. I think this is a really great appointment.

I know Ossie well from his involvement over the years with the Sandringham Dragons. He has been the main man with that club from its inception in the first year of the TAC Cup in 1992 when they were known as the Central Dragons (and later the Prahran Dragons). To hold one job in such a responsible position for so long is something rare in this game. He would also have a fairly deep knowledge of how young footballers think and act and I daresay he would have some inside knowledge on a youngster named Jack Watts.

One has to wonder why. And of course why our club announced these 'key appointments' before the person was actually firmly committed to the job.

I doubt that. Most probably he has reneg'ed on the deal. If he decided he doesn't want to be there after all, its silly to try to enforce the contract.

I'd hate to think why he has changed his mind.

But its not like he has decided to go somewhere else, he is only staying at his old job.

Maybe ties were stronger than he realised until he tried to leave?

But have a look what Oswald said a fortnight ago (the top post in this thread). It's from about two weeks ago, we all change our mind from time to time it doesnt look great to do a backflip like that within a fortnight. Even more disappointing if we were just used as a bargaining tool in negotiations between him and AFL Victoria over a couple of issues at the Sandringham Dragons.

The club were very quick to promote the appointment, but they havent been as quick to announce that he's gone before he started! In fact, his appointment is still on the Melbourne website!

We know what happened , so why not speculate?

The appointment notice is still on MFC's boards. This says loads about Oswald. He bailed out for whatever reason, probably starstruck, do you think?. His credibility is zilch. MFC had the wrong man, we're lucky he's no longer here.

Accept that and move on.

He's been used as a recruiting consultant for two years now. Was on the MFC draft table last year.

We know what happened , so why not speculate?

I've had a little bit to do with Ozzie at a footy level, and i am thankful that he is not working for the MFC. The bloke is a dead set [censored]. He was involved in some school football in a similar role to that he was going to be employed at the mfc, and his role in this was deplorable.

If he could not organise a school football team then what hope does he have at AFL level, thank-you ozzie for going back to TAC football.
