You cannot tell me that West Coast were even remotely trying against a side so down on confidence from last week.

That was as soft as the Carlton game last year. They refused to man up, to tackle properly, to run, to do anything.

Pricks should have lost the priority pick 18, but now they will get it. We could never beat them in our finals race, and now I wanted to lose to them, we bloody well win.

I'm hoping Port don't go in with the same attitude next week V Melb, as we'll then be recorded with another win by default.

I'm not going to suggest that WC gave it their all, but i don't think they went in there wanting to win. It wasn't pretty (just the obvious), but there was no reason for us to lose. We're not going to win 5 games this year, we MIGHT win against the Toigs but i can't see us beating Port next week.

I agree winning culture is a bunch of BS, but a losing culture isn't. We should never gear our players up to lose a game, it'd be a final nail in the coffin of our soul as a club.

Speaking to fans of WC, they wanted to win. I can't speak for the players and coaching staff, but that was their opinions.

I might be naive and I may be the only person in the footy world that thinks this, but I believe we beat them on genuine merit today. We were poor (but great in patches), they were worse.

I agree. It's not like they were suddenly crap in the last quarter, allowing us to run over the top of them. The were terrible all game - we were just worse in the first quarter.

It all adds up. Carlton won their last premiership questionably. They paid the penalty and now they're doing better than us again. (We broke payment limits and we were doing pretty well too I think.)

We let WC do to us what Carlton did to us last year. You can say were here to win but those teams get the premierships while we go on doing "the right thing".

Fair call CF. We bent over again today. Very poor player management. The gate was always going to be a loss. The match was always going to be a yawn. We knew they were going to lay down. I would have thought cleverer team selection, positional management and game rotations could have lost us the game if we tried hard enough.

Fair to say it made no difference to our post season drafting situation, but we could have shafted WCE, and then played out the season in an honest and forthright fashion.

I agree Nasher, people who for one second believe that those West Coast players did not try, did not man up, etc either were not at the game or wouldn't know a football game if they saw one.

I was there and WCE did not man up did not work hard and perform without any intensity what so ever. You fool yourself to suggest otherwise. It was a horrible game where we were less worse than they were. Against a side as fragile as MFC, to kick only one goal after quarter time deserves all cynicism they get.

What a contradiction you are. How could we have played out the season in honest and forthright manner if we tanked this game? Also what credibility would Bailey have had given his statements to the other wise?

I could have take a loss but for the confidence of the younger players after the previous weeks there were definite positives.

It was a crap standard game where MFC strung together some better sequences of plays than the apathetic WCE. Its was a great step forward for many of our younger players and that was great. WCE had 10 players from their 2006 premiership side. They played poorly and provided not a smidge of real pressure on us. Comparing their work effort between the Essendon game and this game is like assessing the gap in the Grand Canyon.

It was a crap standard game where MFC strung together some better sequences of plays than the apathetic WCE. Its was a great step forward for many of our younger players and that was great. WCE had 10 players from their 2006 premiership side. They played poorly and provided not a smidge of real pressure on us. And sides playing at home tend to lift their work ethic in front of their supporters. Ie West Coast in front of 38,000 at Subiaco last week. Younger players have had a history of not travelling well. Aside from this, I was impressed with Morton, Martin, Buckley, Maric and Newton. To name a few.

We proved that against Geelong last week didnt we. Dont overestimate it again. WCE have a mix of players both young and old. Many of the old are finished like Braun and FLetcher and Worsfold did not seem to care to much about it either at the 3/4 time huddle. MFC really got an entree serve with some really really sloppy football from WCE. It was a real 15vs 16 game where 16th side played like 15.5 side and the 15th side rolled over and played like a weekend club side.

Its a great win for the younger players you mention and they deserve the congratulations. Its a pity they were not given the due sporting respect by the opposition that hardly gave a yelp after quarter time.
