McLean puts money where mouth is!

Oh..I see.. you can make a comment like that..but any others is "south"?? <_<

You really are a [censored], you illiterate old fart. A 10K donation (not pay cut) after tax is a phenomenal gesture from a 22 year old player. I doubt that he's on more than $200-250k due to the age he signed his first real contract. To even go down the path you've chosen shows your complete lack of perspective. It also demonstrates how this young man has a far greater understanding of this club's significance and what it means to most of us.

Yep, 10k after tax for such a young player is an amazing effort. If you think otherwise you have no idea. He has his whole life ahead of him and while they may earn decent money in their twenties, many earn very little post football, so it evens out.

Great work Brock

You're very right JL - Mark Stevens is very good about writing positive stories about the club. I've been noticing it for a while now actually.

JL and mickrocks1 your on the ball about Mark Stevens. I like positive stories such as these. Things like Brock and Isaac Weetra making themselves available for the Ballarat Demons function go unnoticed by fans in general.

I'd like to see Mark Robinson write a positive story about the Melbourne Football Club one day... <_<

Well done to Brock McLean on donating the $10,000. He doesn't want to make a big fuss about it, as Jim has told the media. Good on him. He wants the club to survive as we all do. Great initiative and leadership will no doubt see him as Captain one day soon.

Great stuff Chooka. It set the tone for the night and helped get us over the $2m mark. That's two-fifths of the monster brought to heel. We still have more to go. And great to see the Ballarat Demons supporter group are doing their bit - well done all.

It seemed that earlier reports of tight wadness from players only raising $10K over at ology have been put to sleep by none other than Brocky boy. At least we know his heart beats true!

Enjoy......

Brocky chips in $10,000 of his own DOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Brocky, makes my heart sing when players like this show their heartfelt generosity.

I barely worked for 6 years & have just sold my house & am moving to sth gippsland, I'm going to tip in $500.00 to help the debt busting.

Well that just saved me 10 seconds of wasting time abusing someone who has absolutely no idea what the hell he's talking about.

Thank you Brocky, your passion will go a long way to helping our club survive.

What a complete champ!!! :wub::wub::wub:

Great stuff Chook. Reminds me a bit of the Glory Days when our footballers played for the jumper (not their pay packet), and sacrificed everything for the team. We are on the way back!

oh..please...spare my sensivities...grow up will you ffs !!Here we have people on 300/400 plus a year. Seriously 10 grand isnt a cough for these. I again..repeat for those unable to read..Its commendable. .If I was earning that money ..and my employer looked a bit shaky..I might add to the coffers also. Comentary doesnt take anything away from his or others gesture..but some perspective can be added surely..or are some peole so blind to realites that everytthing said or commented must be squeeky clean and syruppy..

Seems odd tome that only Brocky is mentioned.

As a percentage of his earnings, he probably contributed more than anyone else in the room.

I just wanted to point out that the first few posts in the thread perhaps weren't as positive as I would have expected. Normally it takes to post 20-30 for news like this to denegrate into personal attacks on each other.

...and I was being facetious, no need to  <_< me

Brock's a class act.

Good to see his commitment for the club. A real unsung hero now and one of our top players.

is belzebub for real?

the guy is 22 years old on his second contract! he certainly is not on the big money yet.

10k is crazy, amazing, AWESOME even if he was on the big money.

most footy players consider football as their proffession. to give money to your employer for pure love of the club is an incredible act.

love u brocky.

And belzebub, playing devils advocate that downplays a positive gesture is simply not cool, especially seeing as you couldn't possibly believe what you come out with...

Considering how much of that 200-250K goes to tax as well, 10K pre tax is 10K.

The hardest thing for most charities is to get people to donate in the first place and to have a go at someone for not donating more is disappointing.

Posted
Its indeed commendable. Good on him. At the same time without wanting to denigrate the action ..10 g out of a whopping pay packet isnt going to hurt a lot. I would like to think many other players also felt so inclined to help the hand that feeds them.

What's with you ?? I think it's a fantastic, and generous, gesture..

Bingo. Whilst the gesture might hold more weight in some (pedantic) peoples minds if the donation is post tax, it would actually make a whole boatload more sense for him to just take a 10k pay cut. The club still gets 10k that it wouldn't have otherwise had, Brock effectively loses less money (but I'm sure those of us with sense will agree the magnitude of the gesture remains), and the 'legalised robbers' over at the ATO don't get a dime.

My sentiments exactly.

Also Graham Gaunt's assertion that the players were being "tightwads" for previously only donating $10k amongst them, was also a disgrace.

Fantastic effort by Brock and all the players.

Absolutely awesome effort by Brock and all 170 people that attended that night. $2,000,000 from only 170 people. It really does inspire me to donate, and gets me thinking if 170 people can donate over $2m, then think what the other 20,000 or so adult members can do. Another $2m can be achieved if all 20,000 donate $100. I personally will be signing myself up to donate $10-$15 a month (best way of making sure the wife doesn't catch me...haha...shhhh, don't tell her).

C'mon lets show the competition that we are a force and we won't go away!!!!

I thought Graham Gaunt was referring to earlier reports on 'Ology", I don't think it was his 'assertion' as you put it mo.

One thing that many people miss when talking about AFL players pay packets is that the skills they're developing are not easily transferred to any other industry. If you're not one of the lucky ones that gets a gig in the media, or take up a coaching role post-footy, you're going to have to find something completely different to pay your way through the rest of your life.

Haha. Good luck keeping it quiet ;)

I guess we are all proud to have a bloke like that on our team. Also quite enjoyed the reference to Heath Shaw's 'donation' of $10 000.

He literally gave 10% of his annual income, in real terms, and I think that it cannot be reasoned away.

He's a leader and he loves the footy club, you know where I'm going with this...

It was he and 1 or 2 others on Demonlogy that were accusing the players of being "tight". He got shouted down by most, and now has the gall to raise Brock's contribution on Demonland.

His comments on Demonology were a disgrace.

I can't believe people's reservations with Brocky, this guy is a champ! Contributing $10,000 freely, while Collingwood had to take 10K out of Shaw. I love it!

There is no doubt in my mind that he's a future captain.

DONT know what the hell you are talking about mate. I just had a look at that thread, Bagged no-one, used the phrase church envelope, contratulated brock, had a crack at Daniher and got Shouted down by NO - ONE!!!

It was the Adminstrator that locked it and i didnt even get a mention. Yze Magic and Where's Jacka are facing lengthy bans.

Your comments unfounded about me are a disgrace. Sod off!

I'll quote you then:

"If i was an ordinary player wanting to keep my job at a club that may cease to exist - 1 weeks wage becomes an investment in my eyes."

How the hells that a disgrace??????????? That IDEA was posted well BEFORE brocks donation came to light. It wasnt player specific and makes sense in the real world.

Get off ya high horse. There were some comments on there that were more than just a wind up and they werernt from me.

TRY THIS ONE ON FOR SIZE "What disgusts me is tightasses like Bruce who probably chucked in $20 just so it didnt interrupt his next property purchase."

Now that's a disgrace!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
