i wonder if anyone saw the ad for north melbournes membership in the same paper. i think their membership jumped from 22,000 to 34,000 in a single year.

i am very sceptical about their ability to maintain such a high level of membership, and i think we will see that within two years we will once again have a higher membership than north, and probably footscray aswell...

Don't we have a higher membership than Footscray at the moment?

Good to hear we've broken the record!

BB, I tend to agree.

I imagine a minority was due to PG etc, but I think a major part would have been the emotional call to arms that acted as a pull for those who hadn't signed up for other reasons (couldn't attend, finances tight, etc).

We've never had it but I fervently believe we will implement a hardcore membership campaign going into next year. I really feel as though we could get 32,000 members next year.

Must admit am curious to see how North fare next year. Not wishing a downer for them just thinks( lie others) that their numbers may be hard to sustain year in year out. You can only call to arms so many times. Its been mentioned that a lot of non North people signed up this year...cant see that happening too often. Money is after all..money.

quite possibly, im not sure the exact numbers. but there is no way we are the worst of the lot. north had an increase in over 50% in a single season. it wont last.

and i think we have been fairly stable over the past few years, growing slightly.

Last I checked, we were neck and neck with WB (and higher than Brisbane, if not anyone else). This was well before Stynes came on board, so I imagine we now have a higher membership figure than the Dogs.

Absolutley correct. Once we hit 30k and as long as Jimmy and Co can keep producing a fierce and unrelenting membership campaign every year I really don't think we would fall below that from year to year from here on

The football landscape is an astounding beast at the best of times. Footscray escapes any scrutiny at all due to onfield performance. If we had lost only one game up to this point would Paul Gardener still be at the helm?

Total membership includes those members who have not purchased memberships that allow Match Day access. Melbourne has such packages available. (Edit: Or.. used to.)

Its like Richmond. They have a membership tally, then an additional tally for all those who have bought non-matchday memberships, which the AFL dictate as not being counted in the membership tally.

This is why Melbourne ditched the 'armchair' membership they had.

The Bulldogs is more deceiving however, because they have so many odd gimmicks. I believe part of that tally will be thousands of free memberships they have away with Peter Jackson suits.

The WB have a deal with VU, whereby students get a complimentary 2-3-game 'membership'.

I can only applaud the Doggies on some efforts at generating interest in their brand...but calling them memberships is a bit cute !!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
