I hate co-captains.

It's about the only thing that Leigh Matthews has done with which I disagree.

that and win collingwood a premiership...

oh and assulting opposition players.

but otherwise i get your point.

you have one captain. not co captains. thats why you have vice captains, and deputy vice captains. and deputy to the vice captains...you get my point.

Pretty sad that Bruce is a captain when we have McLean and Green running around.

It's working ok this year, with the exception of Bruce being one of the co-captains.

And it worked in Brisbane and it certainly worked in Sydney.

I think it's the best way of getting McLean into the job he rightfully deserves, without putting all the pressure on him straight away.

Still, if Green is captain and McLean is vice captain, the end result is still the same... our leadership group is not a joke!

You can please yourself. It's not an argument I can be bothered with, and I know that you can talk and talk and talk. You'll wear me down :)

When I was young and girls spoke too much I'd... Nah, forget it.

I saw this and his point was that possession stats can be misleading. hardball gets, clearances and tackles tell the story. in fact i might suggest to you that the reason for dal santos ommission is due to his tackle count being very low or non-existent. Very important stats indeed because it shows the players committment to the team. Richmond recently dropped Pettifer and Bowden for not tackling.

Please Tarzan have a look at the stats that matter. You really should give up on this one.

Dal Santo is ranked 4th for tackles for St.Kilda this year.

what about last week?

Dal Santo's efficiency was at 59% last week. A stat, i know, but something to look at.

But McLean's stats DO tell a story in his case, leading contested possesions in his role is exactly what we want from him. Watching Dunn's chase against Richmond (the one he got nominated for the army award for) showed how little pace he has, but that's alright because we've always known that.

You're fighting a losing battle here Tarzan, McLean will be a future captain and basically everyone else sees that.

What's your point? Clearly he isn't the worst performed for the Saints in this category.

No, he's not the worst for the Saints, but that's probably an indication of how badly they're faring in this area.

For a bloke who spends most of his game time in the guts, only making one tackle against the Swans was clearly not up to scratch.

Given Ross Lyon had laid it on the line to his players before the game and told them that defensive efforts, one percenters and tackles were what they would be marked on, Dal Santo was a clear example of a senior player who failed to lead.

The fact he hasn't been credited with a single one percenter this season might illuminate the reasons for his omission, too.

He laid one tackle and gave away 5 free kicks. he was obviously not doing something that he was asked to do. tarzan was trying to make the point that stats were meaningless as the foundation of his attack on Mclean. My point was that possession stats can be misleading but stats such as tackles, clearances etc displays a players real work rate. Go back and read the thread and this should become apparent to you.

What exactly was your point?

That he's ranked 4th for tackles at St.Kilda this year, I could have sworn that you mentioned that his tackle count was 'very low or non-existent'.

Must have been my imagination

thanks jarka,

good to see you've got my back. he laid one tackle last week. you never did state what your point was though.

He's tackle count had very little to do with him being dropped, but if you want to cling to that then good for you, I'm not really bothered though because I have no interest in either the player nor the club. I'm just bemused with your fixation on the tackle count. Dal Santo wasn't alone in that category last week, Lenny Hayes also had just one tackle, why wasn't he dropped?

apparently you are easily amused. what was the reason for his ommission then? please enlighten me.

He's selfish.

Why wasn't Hayes dropped as well? He just had one tackle last week as well.

in what way is he selfish? he eats all the oranges at half time? hogs the rub down table?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
