We robbed Davey from our forward line because we needed to inject pace into our midfield. Are we going to do the same with Maric? Wasn't he recruited as a forward, and hasn't he been playing forward for Sandringham?

interesting point, but im not sure davey was ever a true crumber in the mold that aussie is. i originally thought that we should have kept him forward, but i dont think that is where he will play his best footy. aussie appears to be a true crumber. by all reports maric is too.

He sure is a great bloke....and a great brother!

to yourself? or to someone you know?

his family must be pretty proud the way he has stood up the past few weeks.

True, but we don't have the talent in our midfield to make up for it.

@#$% Jarka, we should all throw our hands in the air and go and support another club. We have absolutely nothing to look forward to.

There are threads of intense optimism and some of intense pessimism. Somewhere in between lies the truth. We have some gifted, desperate and strong ball getters, a young and promising backline and some young forwards who show a bit that need a KPP to feed off and straighten them up.

We need a KPP in the fwd line and some pacy flankers and wingmen. Our ruckmen need to develop or we need to recruit one. We need to develop a culture of excellence and uncompromising desperation.

As for the reason for our stint at the bottom. It is a cycle. Mass retirements over the space of a few short years have forced us to blood young players. Jarka very few players walk into AFL footy ready to play at the level required, no 1 picks included. Most take a season or two to contibute consistently and a few more again to hit thier straps. See Geelong and Hawthorn. You cannot seriously expect MFC to be consistently winning with the kids on the park at the moment. Be realistic and stop attacking our midfield. Had we had a couple of players the calibre of Mclean and Jones a few years ago we might have challenged for a flag.

It would seem that I have a particular dislike for Sydney.

Good.

Not the oldest city in the nation.

But certainly the best city in the nation!

PS Even Grimes describes himself as one paced, you have no idea at all

To be fair Jarka when interviewed you are hardly going to state that you are the next Osafa Powell.

Take comfort in his AIS sprint times and the fact that Jack will be a lot quicker then me. Whenever I led out from FF the opposition full back used to line me up against one of the goal posts to try and determine if I was moving or not!

In my day I was consistently clocking about 11.1 in the 100m, which I though was fairly quick but I'm sure these guys would make that look slow - it's all relative!!

Grimes was never considered to be quick in underage footy, not slow either, I guess you could draw comparisons to McLean.

I'm impressed Jarka, I used to clock 11.1 for 100 metres as well...11.1 flips of the egg timer.

But I hope Franky's a lot quicker then Chook

mclean is slow. he runs at one pace all day and doesnt stop. but he doesnt have pace.

On the contrary, I believe that we are finally on the right track after a wasted decade, but we need to learn from our mistakes.

He's my brother....and we are very proud of him. We always knew he would do great things.

a few of us had high hopes for him also. were you demon supporters before he got drafted? are you all converted now?

and i thought this might be a good oppertunity to ask someone who would experience first hand website like this. does what is said on here effect the players? would col even know there are thread on him atm? would he care? its a bit daunting that 8 weeks ago people were calling for him to be delisted but now he is being heralded as a long term key back.

and one question for the footy fans on here (those who arent here just for the politics): can you give us updated height and weight for colin? lol because he plays taller than he looks and still looks skinny as all hell.

hope you enjoy your time around here.

well a genuine ball magnet

Grimes only played 9 games this year. However he averaged near 28 disposals per game.

but seems to indicate no pace. interesting considering he did 20 in under 3.

is there a list of draft camp results somewhere to compare?

Posted

interesting that we have the top 2 and 3 of the top 9 players from the 2007 draft (when you list them alphabetically)...

Jarka, Neitz is our greatest game hold, greatest captain and greatest goalkicker - the best in 150 years - and you want one recruiter to get a replacement now - no development, just now. THe quality of your argument is the proof to mine.

OWNED.

AND the site you found does not describe Grimes as one-paced. Find an argument - buy one if you have to, but please offer more than the spin and sniping rubbish you've got so far - Hell read sylvinators reply about pace - theres a start.

So, tell me this, is your brother a better backman or forward?

Posted
What do you think?

I think you're right, but he's doing well down back and it's probably easier to manufacture goals.

Who knows how things will pan out, though :)

Posted
What do you think?

I think that for years we've been crying out for a decent backline. Garland is excelling down there, and his pace is a real asset to our relatively slow defence.

We need to keep him there and develop other forward options.

Garland reminds me so much of Rivers, but with more pace.

Just out of interest, do family genetics point to him getting bigger with time?

Posted
He was drafted as a forward but hasnt really been given a chance up there. Even when he was played up forward in a few games last yearfor melb, he had no real game time and practise as a forward as Sandy were playing him in the backline. Would be hard to play all your time in the backline in the VFL and then get thrown into the forward line in the 1's, no matter how much work you did on the track.

He is a great kick for goal and can kick it a country mile. I think given the chance, maybe he could a good option up forward. We have seen he's closing speed against some of the best and fastest forwards. With that kind of speed as a forward, the right ball delivery and game plan...it just may work. Worth a chance anyway. Not a lot of options available really..... One of his biggest assets is he's footy brain and the ability to read the play, which is why he's going well in the backline. He versatile, hope they look at all options for him.

What do you think?

What do I think? Well - someone who can play back and if necessary go up forward and kick a goal when needed is (as they say) just what the doctor ordered!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
