I'm not an expert on these things, so there could be something i've missed, but it sounds very exciting!

Finally it feels like our club is being chased and sought over! Horrible to say, but now i know how Pies fans feel.

$750,000 for an extension to the VFL pavilion at Casey Fields to accommodate the training needs of the Melbourne Football Club plus $140,000 for sealing of the VFL oval carpark (subject to reaching agreement with Melbourne Football Club)

must have somewhere for brock to do his doughies... :D

Too true,may also lead to sponsorship opportunities for Chook? I lean more towards HSV as opposed to Krispy Kremes

I wonder of any of the money is going to be spent on seating? This would be handy when watching practice matches/training.

Does anyone know if there is any existing seating there?

There's a small grandstand. I'm not sure how many it seats as I haven't ventured over to that side of the ground, but the vast majority of spectators at the NAB Cup match were standing.

It sounds like things are progressing. For those who haven't checked the link, some notable excerpts:

Finances -

In its continued bid to woo Melbourne Football Club, the council plans to ''provide'' it with a $500,000 ''realisable asset'', believed to be a parcel of land, plus $750,000 for the extension of the existing pavilion. This will bring the council's commitment to $1.25 million.

Melbourne has committed $500,000 to the extension, provided council hands over the ''realisable asset'', as reported in The Age last Wednesday.

The AFL's commitment was limited to $350,000.

What we'd get -

(Chris Connolly) said the extension to the pavilion would be shared by Melbourne, the Scorpions and Cranbourne Football Club.

''We need an extension of the gym, some training rooms, office space and medical space upstairs. It will be built onto the existing plan and would allow more space for AFL practice matches.''

Melbourne would use Casey Fields as a base from the 2008 pre-season to the end of the 2010 pre-season before moving back to Melbourne.

It will still use Casey Fields as a summer training base and have fortnightly in-season training and community nights following the move.

Casey Scorpions GM:

''This is a partnership in terms of facilities and development program. The benefit to the Scorpions is an upgraded facility and a long-term development program with an AFL partner.''

''Our football club is committed to the Saints and the info we have from them is they very happy with the alignment. It will be looked at at the end of the season but at the moment it's not on our radar.''

PS. 'While there were no formal discussions, (Casey chief executive officer) Mr Tyler said ''some of the informal discussions would have touched on a possible relocation of Melbourne Football Club to Casey Fields.'''

I am confused.

If we are getting a new stadium built in the heart of Melbourne, why do we need Casy Fields?

Melbourne would use Casey Fields as a base from the 2008 pre-season to the end of the 2010 pre-season before moving back to Melbourne.
