No worries. Unfortunately its not on ABC, the Casey vs Collingwood game is scheduled to be televised.

I think that Valenti was rookied because there was a) nothing of any real note available at that stage and, B) a possibility that an AFL preseason could give him the opportunity to be an exceptional player of his type that could force his way onto the list. Unfortunately he is not exceptional, he is just very good. My personal thoughts are that he was a waste of a pick, which are the same thoughts that I had at the time.

I honestly can't understand the opinion that Valenti was a waste of a rookie selection, or the doubts that people have over his ability.

He has been no less than outstanding at VFL level over the last season and a half, and the two things i really like about him are his consistency (in the best nearly every week) and his abilities as a footballer (as opposed to an athlete who gets a kick).

IF Valenti was on the senior list he would be best-22 material no doubt in the world. I don't care how 'slow' he is. He is a natural finder of the football and is good around goals. He racks up the possessions week-in week-out and consistently out-shines the MFC senior listed young talent that he plays with at Sandy.

Put it this way, I would much rather have Valenti running around on the MFC senior list (and getting a game) right now than any of CJ, Buckley, Bode, Weetra, Dunn. Yes, I know that he's a different type to those listed and that we do have a fair number of 'inside' mids but I would rather another decent inside mid on our list than a crap flanker.

JMac has another 1-2 years at best and Valenti is a natural choice for mine to fill his position.

Spot on!!!

He seems to be one of those uncanny players who knows instinctively where the ball is going to go and gets to that position.

I've removed the point scoring pollution from this thread. Let's try and keep to the topic at least just a little bit.

I care to stop the inanity on an otherwise interesting thread, since Nasher has already cleaned up the thread of this crap once already. Take a hint!!

Then why are you still posting crap?! FFS no one cares

Anyway back to the topic...

This year would be the perfect opportunity to play Valenti and see how he goes, we're obviously not going to make the finals and we're definitely in a transitional phase with our midfielders. It wouldn't hurt at all to retire Yze and give him an opportunity with half a dozen games, at least that way we'll know once and all whether he deserves a spot on the list or not.

I would prefer Valenti over those 4 too. Dunn...he needs to sort out where his best position is.

I'd prefer him as a forward as i have always thought he was smart around goal but if he can nail a spot as a run with player, so be it. He's better then VFL level.

Dunn is a worry. Drafted in the first round as a KPP, which we all know he's not, struggles to hold his spot in a very poor team crying out for decent players and now he's just going at Sandy. A guy of his background should be dominating at that level.

Very worrying

He's got all the attributes to be a fine player...but yes worrying, he should be coming on this year.

If he could play across HF alongside Bate as an alternative lead-up target then together they could help fill our hole at CHF whilst creating space for our mosquito fleet [Davey, Maric, Wonaemirri].

Come on Dunny...extract the digit, too much talent to go waste.

Valenti was picked as a rookie because he was the best available and in case Moloney never recovered from OP. He would be a perfect replacement for Moloney if he still carried this injury from last year. Will be be retained next year, more than likely not unless McDonald retires or we delist Moloney. We have to keep Spencer on the list for two years becasue he is from interstate, and we will more than likely promote White and Mcdonald to Veteran status so we can only have 4 rookies.

Unless we have injuries he won't play for Melbourne.

I don't think he's a waste 2 all, but I don't think he's a star by any measure, - but would love him to p-rove me wrong.

As Yze & McDonald move on he could be very handy as he's such a hard worker who doesn't waste the ball, & @ worst he'll be serviceable.

He's a quality kid.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
