  1. No, not yet. They are early stages in their development. I would expect they will play in a number of positions just like nearly every bloke who has come through the VFL to AFL. And could you please use caps, commas and tidy up your grammar FFS. I promised I'd never rip someone on this but it does my head in. Are you Wayne Brittain??
  2. If it was only this black & white. No doubt there was a lot of motivation this week but the game was played completely differently to last week as well. At times today we had our whole side within a kick of the play and the bal locked in our forward line. Much more like a Collingwood or W.C. We never looked like having those sort of numbers pushing up in the other games I've seen this year.
  3. OK we'll make it easier to undertsand. Cook & Fitz will neeed to develop their games before either can hold down a key position and that's not going to be this year by which time Fev will be gone. If you don't think there is something for a young forward to learn from playing with Fev you haven't been paying attention.
  4. Don't need to. That's why I put a question mark there for you. Cook and Fitz are not going to be hindered by having Fev in the same side if it's for this year only, as expected. Chance for them to actually learn a fair bit assuming Fev gets back to near his best.
  5. Gawn not competing with Fev for a spot? Gawn was horrible last week. Fev showed signs in the last Q. With Petterd and Bate playing for MFC Fev is a must (speaking entirely from a from a Casey and logical point of view).
  6. I've done the phone thing for the club as a volunteer and it always amused me when people took that attitude. I alwys wanted to give them a critique of their support? I reckon they are the type of people who are happy to jump back on board in the good times whilst the supporters who stick fat keep the club going during lean times. If I was doing it now I would just remind them that we are 20,000 members and about 3 million dollars behind Collingwood and of Ron's mantra, "if it is to be, it's up to me"
  7. It is apparent as I've read this thread over the last couple of days that people are failing to grasp what is going on in regard to Jim's involvment in the FD. Jim's presence around the football dept is not designed to directly lead to on field changes. If on field changes occur this weekend it will be attributable to one or all of four things: 1. Lift in effort by players 2. Understanding of and application by players of what they are supposed to do re:game plan/style 2. Change of game plan/style 4. Lack of effort or failings by opposition
  8. I cannot recall anywhere in this arrangement that it is said that Jim wil be involved in day to day decisions. Board members are allowed to visit the shop floor you know.
  9. It was simply a case of Caro nosing around looking for a story on a club which is under the pump (got that bit right). Where it really blew up and where The Age f'd up (and apolgised) was for the "Demons in Crisis" headline which was removed from their web site later in the day after the club clarified the situation with a press release. The issue of Jims' overseeing of the FD dates back to last December with Leoncelli resigning from the board and is also tied to the Andrews report which recommended the club look at it's FD to see what is missing or needed to seize the opportunity presented with all the other building blocks now in place.
  10. I don't think we need to go down this track with using words like "shame". The Ray Andrews report stated that the club needs to step up its investment in the FD and it is therefore important that the Board knows where and how to invest. That may ultimately lead to a new coach but you can gaurantee right now that Jims focus will be on helping Bails get the job done. Since Andrew Leoncelli stepped down from the board late last year there needed to be this re-connection between the FD and Board and more so because of the Ray Andrews report. Jim is the best board candidate for this role as an ex-footballer. I reckon it is of greater concern that the role would fall to Don McLardly if Jim becomes ill again (God forbid). Don's a good operator but the club really needs a football person in this role.
  11. I actually think our problems stem from our inability to either impliment the game plan or the possiblity that our game plan doesn't work?? In such cases it easy to understand that everything else drops off. I don't see it so much as a "passion or desire" thing but as an attitude. Bailey needs to get these guys playing the way he wants them to (assuming it works) and from there things fall into place.
  12. Worth noting that we don't neccesarily have to buy but if we did could do so over a long term and there may be favourable tax reasons to do it this way....cue for the accountants?
  13. If we aren't ahead on both the contested and uncontested ball stats I will be **ed off. We simply HAVE to show more in these areas and on our home ground especially. A season high for tackles should also be a focus and shouldn't be hard to achieve but if we don't win this category I'll expect it's becasue we have more of the ball. A win would be nice but realistically we are so far behind our opposition on the F50 entries and our back line is disfunctional so it's hard to imagine ATM.
  14. Looking at the land on which the Bentleigh Club is located would have to think it is worth well in excess of $10 mill? That more than covers the liabilities. The key to not incurring further losses is to get the joint relocated and running profitably as soon as possible. I would look at sepnding as little money as possible on the existing facility and concentrate on finding a new site.
  15. Not real close. At least a 20 minute walk.
  16. Just Jones? I had heard there was an incident but didn't see it? In reality though our WHOLE side looks soft and cannot play contested footy.
  17. Just a friendly bump in the hope that someone at the Club will acknowledge that we don't need to humiliate ourselves when we can just do it by playing football.
  18. You are showing your age. Twitter is just part of the scenery. It's a good and neccasary way to communicate with fans. No doubt people will use the same medium to communicate their displeasure after nights like tonight, so there is one way to help the club and players re-focus.
  19. No votes from me. Garlands 2 terrible basic skill errors early on set the tone for us for the night and therefore discounts anything + he did after that. Jones gets a nod for looking like he has intent every time he gets the footy.
  20. Positive? Officially Bailey won't be renewed. It will take 6 months minimum to turn this mess around and that takes us into September by which time MFC will be in summer recess.
  21. I'll go out on a limb here and say he definitely won't be renewed.
  22. Well thought out and written Kento. I find it an issue for myself that every ANZAC day I now hear with increasing predominance about a football match and the two teams that have become ingrained on it, and that would be the case even if it were Melbourne in lieu of Essendon or Collingwood.
  23. Really...if that's all it takes to coach a side we should see if Clint Eastwood is available?
  24. Anzac day for me is a totally different proposition to QB. QB is a redundant almost meaningless relic of our past that isn't even celebrated on the same day across different states. Anzac day is revered National holiday with deep meaning and sentiment. Way more important than QB and even Australia Day IMHO. To be consistent with an equitable competiton I believe all blockbuster game dates should be shared, including this BS Carlton/Richmond round 1 thing that's been flopping year in year out for the last 4 as well as QB, Dreamtime at the 'G', etc. If Malthouse felt sorry that more footballers can't play on Anzac day then he should be equally agrieved that only Essendon's and Richmond's Aboriginal players can play in the dreamtine at the 'G' game. These fixtures to be honest were in a large part developed as commercial opportunites by the clubs involved r the clubs involoved would be happy for otehrs to play in teh same day or hand over part of the gate (which they don't as far as I know?). The days should in fact belong to the stakeholders around which they are based. Having said that I have no idea who the stakeholder would be for QB. I've often thought if some other club came up with some cause to benefit from the day that the AFL would have no hesitation in handing it to someone other than Melbourne! The fact that it was the original blockbuster from an era when every other game was played on Saturday afternoon is probably the only reason we still have it.
  25. I can't believe the debate on a game thread is the about the bloody humidity!! The elephant in the room is that we are not playing well and it has nothing to do with the playing conditions. We are bottom 4 this year on what I have seen. Skills are poor, often under little pressure. Too many who can't play contested footy.
