  1. Have you even read my posts in the McDonald thread, obviously not but knock yourself out....again.
  2. Stu, if he played round 1 last year and wasn't dropped another 2-3 times throughout the year I might be able to agree with you, but if you look at the timeline of events it's obvious what happened. In hindsight he should of stepped down when Trenners did.
  3. Quality....coming from Captain Obvious himself. As I said earlier in the day you constantly roll out the "I'm happy to back the coaching staff" and hide behind that. Do you actually ever have you own opinion on anything or do you just go with the "company line" in a bid to rack up some cheap likes. Please don't answer, it's a rhetorical question. Some of your posts regarding Garland (there are numerous others throughout other threads) highlight the fact you have a limited and simplistic understanding of the game, then there's the arguments you get into with myself and other posters, you often back yourself into a corner or find yourself stumped when a question is asked that may require the slightest bit of technical knowledge on the game, that's when you either don't answer and move on to someone else or dance around the question asked in your feeble response. Garland will no doubt play, because he's playing well and currently in great form or he's all we've got at the moment until some of the younger players come through. Either way we need every player playing well this year as we don't quite have the depth yet that some believe we do. If he does play well what will that make it, 2 good seasons out of the last 5 or 6....
  4. Are you watching DemonA ? How is Dixon going if at all? cheers
  5. Well if he was selected for his recent on field performances than yes I must be. If he was selected because he gets to training early to help set up the witches hats than no. He might be very active behind the scenes, if so that's great but I'm not buying he was selected by his onfield efforts. Lets look at the senior players in the side.... Jones - Captain Vince - LG Watts - No comment Grimes - Had captaincy stripped from him after he clung on to it thinking it guaranteed him again. I'm going early, he won't be here next year. Dawes - I like the way he goes about it but struggling with injury and at times struggled physically on the field. Didn't see why he was couldn't still be part of the group. Has a terrific attitude, hope he ends up at Casey with Crossy as an player/assistant coach. The Prince - MIA in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Trengove - Has enough on his plate. Dunn - Would love to know what happened there. Pedo - Year by year proposition, would rather he concentrates on his game. Garlett - Not sure if it's his thing. M.Jones, Terlich, Spencer ?? The rest of the list is 23 years of age or younger. We don't have a lot to choose from, which is disappointing. Compare our senior players to those at other clubs, we're miles off some clubs. Even those that have recently departed like Howe , Frawley didn't bring much to the table. What we do have is some great young leaders coming through.
  6. Every players job is to help influence the result of the game. As for your observations of Garland we must be watching different games. Is he getting a game because he's that good or for lack of other options. The Grimes transition has one rotation left. By respect I assume you mean that he was asked to step as opposed to having it stripped from him, always looks better that way.
  7. First game of the 3 I will be able to watch. No excuses with the wind at Docklands. Need to start the game with some real purpose. Would like to see us hit the lead early and maintain it throughout the game. Saints 2nd game cancelled last week so they will have a strong side, as mentioned earlier in the week Roo might be on a wing and Joey off a back flank. Can't wait.
  8. You often run with the "I'll back the coaches in" as its a safe stance and easy to hide behind. I thought most of Currys post summed up many posters thoughts. Grimes was in the leadership group last year and wasn't gifted any games, I can only hope that same luxury in extended to Garland. Some questions raised by posters in recent weeks are - when did the highly versatile Garland do a lockdown job on a small defender and come out on top? - when was Garland last in our best players/influence the result of a game? - when getting beaten by Carlton (Garland 7 possessions , 1 tackle)and Essendon (13 possessions 4 tackles) two teams we should of easily accounted for what did Garland do to demonstrate on field leadership? People keep referring to "if he can recapture his form from a few years back", we have all been waiting for a while now. If he can great, if he can't he needs to be removed firstly from the team until he does and then from the leadership group at the end of the year. That needs to be consistent across the board if we are to improve as a side.
  9. I wouldn't say clearly, to me Dawes clearly was an on field leader. But let's agree to disagree.
  10. With regards to your comment "For mine....when needed...." Your referring to the players omitted?
  11. Any work done behind the scenes is appreciated but right now we need on field leaders, time to deliver. Grimes is another omission.
  12. I agree, I think we will improve but we won't make the finals. Still at least 12 months behind them.
  13. I agree, I think we will improve but we won't make the finals. Still at least 12 months behind them.
  14. There was a great article a few years back , I think it was on the AFL website that outlined a typical player payment pyramid for clubs, starting with the marquee player through to first year players and rookies. If I could find it I'd repost it for you. We have 23 players out of contract at years end, Dawes being top of the list. If you can be bothered flicking back a page in the thread you'll see where I've said "I think we can agree that any figure thrown about with regards to a players contract is purely speculative ". I supported the trade for Dawes at the time. I like the way he goes about it but unfortunately his body has let him down. As we know he has recently re injured his calf and won't be available until at least round 4. He is getting paid good coin and because of injury he hasn't been able to deliver, and yes that sometines happens in professional sport. If he manages to get through this year he is not in a position to be changing clubs and we now hold all the cards if we are to offer him a new contract. Depending on the development of Hulett/The Weed this year, the condition of Dawes body and the overall management of the list I don't think it's unreasonable to offer him a heavily reduced 1 year contract. Maybe a playing/mentoring role at Casey might be on the cards. It's funny you say 14 games for a first year player because that's all he managed last year. He is no longer a priority, he's done well over the last 3 years and no doubt understands that. We need to lock away the likes of Tyson, Tmac and possibly be front loading a contract for Hogan should a deal be reached over the off season.
  15. I think we got Garland on the cheap Dazzle, one thing I don't think many have considered is that even if Watts wants to stay I think there will be a big difference in what both parties think he's worth and that alone may see him go. As for who replaces him, we'll have to see how Hulett is travelling later in the year. The Weed may need a bit longer. I can see Pedo getting a year deal for 2018. We don't know how the interchange will effect us yet, we may find ourselves in a position of playing only two talls and rotating mids more frequently through there.
  16. Context...context....now where did I put it. How's this for context, he was dropped for rd 23 last year, comes out and plays 2 solid games in the first two weeks of the NAB challenge and it's the old "he'll let us know when he's ready to talk". Throw away line or footy speak call it what you want, 3 years ago he went with "waiting to see who the coach is and the direction of the club", what he and 3/4 of the list failed to realise at the time was that regardless of who was coaching the players had to put in as well, it's as if some players thought the Roos coaching appointment automatically equaled wins. I think it was two years ago in Roos first game as coach he starred against the Saints, sadly that type of performance wasn't sighted again for much of the season. You won't believe this Stu but I have moved on from the no.1 draft pick tag, I'm [censored] off because he's currently a wasted talent. Before someone tells me he would star at another club, he has the opportunity to star for us, this year, the only thing holding Jack Watts back is Jack himself. I think the foot in both camps reeks of arrogance considering what he's served up in his time at the club. As for hate, no hate, my views on Watts have always been realistic and consistent. But if Watts should announce at seasons end he is wanting out just watch how many on here change their opinions of him just as they did for Howe. Anyway Stu you'll have to excuse me I'm off to see how Tmac is going, he's currently getting the [censored] kicked through him in another thread.
