Who said we only have 850k of space? We only paid the minimum cap this year, with next years minimum rising, the total cap rising, & teams who don't use the full cap being able to 'bank' it & go beyond the cap by that amount the following year. Helps to know the rules. That plus savings on delistings, Byrnes retirement & not having anyone else who commands super huge dollars at the club, I have no doubt we could go to $1m+ on the RIGHT player. Can the club afford to spend more than it did this year on players? It can if that player draws a crowd & helps us win some games from his first year at the club & this would be the RIGHT type of player to pay that kind of $ to. Danger is one of the few players in the league who would do that. And as Peter Jackson kept attempting the impossible getting Roos to the club, so we should keep trying to attract the best in the land to play for us no matter how 'realistic' you or Pickett think it is.

I like him, no superstar but does a job & doesn't waste it.

I'd take it one step further, saints would only nominate pick 19 if they had him ranked well higher than. Otherwise they risk missing out on an even better player as you never know who might slip out of the 1st round. So if they or anyone else don't really rate him as a top 15 certainty in this draft then we'll get him with our 3rd rounder imo. -
Makes me feel ill still.........
-
So has he gone & got a new mrs, family & bunch of mates too?? What BS, the past is always there in the memory banks somewhere, detach away or not.

I'm happy with the outlook on that deal, much prefer what we got, 2 likely b+/a graders & hunt, hope he comes good too. -
IF so, then yes, absofreakinglutely!!! IMO....
-
And there's also still no comment saying he would only considering coming back to us to repay the support..... This from a bloke who tweets regularly! So clearly if they remain silent you can choose to have your head in the sand, others will take that as a real indication of something more.
-
Clark & Watts for either Beams or Sidebottom & Lumumba plus Pick 8 (for taking Lumumba off their hands)...... Otherwise tell the pies to F off!!!! Big kick in the guts to Melb supporters if Clark does this as far as I'm concerned, to my mind it will cast real doubts about the sincerity of his paid 'retirement' and I'm sure that perception is one I would be sharing with plenty of others.
-
IF TRUE..... Then he turns out to be a weak lying prima donna dog imo. Although, we already know that is what Barrett is, so I have faith that's not the case with Clark. I really really hope Clark doesn't prove me wrong. I will be sure to voice it loud and clear if he does.

Pffft..... Carlton will not get both these deals done, even if they are both players preferred destination. As above, they don't have the juice to deal for both & like collingwood have terrible reps at trade week.

But he's right isn't he? Wasn't it actually picks 2 & 20 for Tyson & Salem? Whether they on traded that 2nd pick doesn't change what we traded. Very convenient people around here overlook that...... Mind you, I'm happy as with the deal, we got 2 class players that like more rough & tumble than what Kelly does, which is what we need!! -
If anyone thinks re-signing Riley was....

Yep.... In fact I think it was hetrophobic to even make that link in the first place ;-p -
Definitely out of contract & likely goners IMO: Nicholson, Strauss, Byrnes, Tapscott, Clisby, Blease, Barry. (7) Clark retirement makes 8 primary list changes. Others still out of contract (at least they were at the start of this year): Frawley UFA, Bail, Kent, M. Jones, Terlich, McDonald, Cross. We'd definitely want to keep most of those guys still, even if a few of them are still depth rather than genuine top 22, there's only so much talent each off season available. Depending on Frawley/trades etc, 8 changes is about right. I can't see us drafting past rounds 4 or 5 in this years National Draft. And we won't pickup more than a couple of FA's if we keep Frawley. Maybe throw in upgrades for Jetta & Georgiou? Harmes has been ok, but still a fair way off. Priority numbers 1, 2 & 3 will be more silk, speed & spread in the midfield/flanks for sure!!! Roosy said as much in the media recently. And that should sort out the list balance & answer the OP's points pretty nicely I would've thought. We'll definitely pickup a ruck/kpp prospect or 2 somewhere along the way also. 8 to 10 players turned over at seasons end for sure.
-
My gut feel is Frawley will stay & his current stance serves 2 purposes. 1. Maximize his next contract. 2. Keep the pressure on the team to keep improving & convince him to stay (my understanding is he's a popular figure amongst the playing group). Hence he's giving mixed messages, "hopefully we're playing finals soon" would indicate he acknowledges big improvements already & lifting the ante from seeing improvement/direction of the club to "things need to be going perfect 100% of the time" type comments. I don't think that his holding out is having any negative effects on the playing group regardless so at this stage I don't mind at all him holding out. He would know as well as anyone how far we've come without having Mitch Clark, Hogan or Trengove this year & I think given what he's been through in his first 8 years at the club that he's also holding the administration to task about the 'succession' planning as he doesn't want to sign a long term deal with the albeit remote possibility that after 3 years of Roos at the helm the club goes backwards with another Bailey or Neeld appointment. I could be wrong of course but his situation is very different to Scully's & he has little to gain by signing/committing elsewhere a year early. Scully's situation to be able to walk for a ridiculously huge contract was a once off chance for a 2nd year player given the expansion club concessions, whereas Frawley is a complete FA able to go to any club at all. A lot can happen in 12 months so why would he decide a year earlier than he had to? You really think his manager would be that dumb also? Go MFC, either way we're on the rise!!!

A spud is a potato. Much like the hero above who has nothing to do with hogan in real life, needs to change 'hogan' into 'keyboard'....

Can say bloody but can't say i d i o t?? We are weak as [censored] at this club, this forum included!!
-
Who said he would be our savior ffs?!? He was simply labelled a genuine afl standard player & he bloody well is that. Problem will be keeping him at our club cause the rest of the list sucks and he'll hardly see it up forward & when he does the ball will be sailing over his head cause our midfield still can't hit a lead!! The fact of the matter is he's a helluva lot better than 90% of our list at VFL level & at training. You don't think that'll translate to AFL? He already is better than 90% of our list at AFL level. Thats as of right now and by the prime of his career he'll probably be better than everyone on our list. Anyone who says different is delusional idiot, kid who hasn't played yet or not. And by the way, the expansion clubs aren't scared to label kids stars before they lace em up for the first time, it's about time our list dealt with high expectations like the rest of the professional sports world!!
-
I know I do..... ^^^
-
Wrong, he lost his feet for no apparent reason on a couple of leads which allowed his man easy uncontested mark out in front...... He slapped himself on the leg both times it happened, so he knew he stuffed up. Not that I'm concerned, I reckon he'll be a gem, but not 1 player was perfect & without mistake on the night. Just ask then or Roos & I'm sure they'll say the same.
-
Yep, 7 wins, I've penciled in the 2 against the dogs & GWS, 1 each over the Saints, Lions & Tigers! ;-) Etihad our new stomping ground;-p A really good year would be adding a Port/Bombers/North/Blues scalp or 2....

He's certainly shown that in this thread.

Ha!! It's you who can't let go buddy! He was asked a question and gave an answer, you are nit picking, jumping at shadows and trolling because only a dimwit couldn't recognise that Roos and the team can't show/do/prove anything until the games roll around. So are you a dim wit or a troll?!! You don't wanna keep hearing his same answers to the same questions over and over don't read the articles until there's some new stuff to talk about. Right now it's preseason, so how bout you cut it, finish, move one & do?!?
