I must say that this has been the most inspiring win from our boys that I have seen for a long time (if ever)! All the experts gave us no hope, most Demonlanders (including myself) similarly felt it was a waste of petrol journey down the Geelong Road and (after all) we were playing at the Cattery with many of our Stars out. This was the day we rested Hogan, played our young lads (Stretch and ANB) to get games into them and played guys such as M. Jones and Bail, who most people were clambering to delist. Nobody thougt we were a remote chance, however the impossible happened because our lads: 1) played with vigour, 2) played as a team, 3) backed themselves and each other, and 4) showed determination. It was particularly exciting to watch how they lifted in the last ten minutes and put the game beyond doubt. There was question unlike the previous week (when most assumed it was a winnable match)! This team has a future next year when: 1) Hogan, Kent and JKH resume in the Forward mix, 2) Petracca, Trengrove and Vanders are inserted into our midfield mix, 3) Salem, Garland and Grimes resume in the Back half, 4) we have some good veratile talls who can play front and back (Frost, Fitzy, Pederson), 5) Gawn and Spencil have another dozen games under their belt, 6) ANB, Stretch, O. McDonald and Harmes all have more developed bodies and more confidence, and 7) it dawns that we have some depth after all hidden away (M. Jones). Conratulations to Vince, Tyson, Brayshaw, Garlett, Dunn and all those responsible for showing leadership yesterday! I am feeling very bullish about our future. Does anyone feel otherwise?

Why on earth Jordy? Why not Fitzy?

Plus Gawn will be the tallest player in the AFL when Sandilands retires!

Delistings/trades at end of the season

One post and already you make sense! I think that the four players you suggest are better suggestions than the three de listings suggested in post # 506 -
At least Watts showed up last week. If Garlett had of showed up also, we would have won! Let's hope that Garlett and Dawes both play blinders!
-
Don't they (i.e. Hird and Co.) have a responsibility for initiating/agreeing to the drug program? At the very least it is lamentable governance for a sports administrator and should be censured for that alone.
-
And competition between Harmes, White and (now) King!
-
And Petracca.
-
Judging from your comments and those of KC during the season, it seems that King, Harmes and White are all pushing for elevation to join Vanders as replacement for Petracca/Trengrove who are both on the LTI List. Who would you suggest (and why) based on MFC's needs?
-
As we started life as the Melbourne Cricket Club Football Club (MCCFC) we should increase our MCC subs by $50 per annum and automatically include all MCC members in the MFC total. This would give us the largest football club membership in the Southern Hemisphere (in any code)!

Maybe King?

I don't think anywhere near enough Demonlanders appreciate the improvement that Petracca will make to our midfield next year. Why trade away the best forward in the League ( plus our first draft pick) when we may already have the best midfielder already on our list? -
I cannot believe that neither daily (nor KC from Casey) had King in their best players. Has he got to kick ten goals to be noticed?
-
Interesting checking the stats for the game. We had 105 more possessions than St. Kilda but still managed to lose by one kick. Also Garlett had only three kicks today resulting in a single goal whereas each other week to date he has managed to kick a couple. Oh, but for the two goals each from Garlett and Pederson (that we have become accustomed to this year), the result should have been different, especially when we had 33% more possessions than the Saints at 5% better accuracy. God I hate trying to analyse statistics!

Alongside Trengrove, Brayshaw and Hogan!

Leading in sixteen matches is different to winning sixteen matches. Perhaps you might likewise revisit this post?

Vince Toumpas Watts Hogan Brayshaw Jones With apologies to Cross, Gawn,Viney & Dunn

Surprised that only HH has mentioned his 208cm. He is the second tallest player in the league after Sandilands (and 2cm taller than Robbie Warnock) and ten years Sandilands junior. We would be crazy to even consider delisting a player who one day will end up as the tallest player in the league. He simply has too much upside. Let's not repeat the mistake we made when we delisted Steph Martin ahead of Jamar.

I thought Watts played well today apart from his dropped mark I n the goal square (but at least he was positioned there as a target). This was more than compensated by his good tackle in the goal square which resulted in a goal, but there are always so many Demonlanders who seem to have their eyes shut when he lays a tackle.
-
He would have scored more if he wasn't forced to play up the ground for so much of the match. The shot for goal from the 50 metre line unfortunately tested him, especially when (after his overly-long run up) he din't have enough energy left to roost it.

RN I had to read your stats a second time to try to justify my hunch on Watts. What your stats show are that, despite Watts being 22nd and 26th respectively in both uncontested and contested possessions, he has managed to end up 3rd and 6th respectively in goal assists and goals. That is what I was alluding to in the value of Watts. He may get less of it than most yet he generally impacts positively on the result. If he got more of the ball, his impact on the goals would be greater still. There is upside in keeping him IMHO!p.s. It worries me the stat that the only two ahead of him in goal assists are Mitchie and Matt Jones, both of whom I rate as less value. Assess these stats carefully is my advice.
