As it stands currently, I think the rules are in a pretty good spot. The only rules I'd like to see changed, or cleared up, the ruck, holding the ball and deliberate. Ruck rules should be simplified- there should be no 3rd man up at all, and the ruckman should be able to just compete. As long as there is no absolute blatant high contact or intentional impeding, they should be able to have their time to compete against each other. The deliberate needs clarification. The idea behind it is quite positive, to keep the ball in play. But there needs to be common sense with missing kicks when being tackled etc. Far too grey in some areas. The holding the ball rule is still far too inconsistent. I'm all for a player being penalised for dragging the ball in, but how can he get it out when 4 players jump on his back? If we can iron these 3 issues out, I believe the game is in good health. Except umpire pannell. A blatant cheat who shouldn't be allowed to umpire at league level again.

CASEY SCORPIONS v NORTHERN BLUES
Generation dee replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
As early as today even? ? -
75 inside 50 entries, top 8 disposal winners on the ground, nearly 100 tackles, including 22 in forward 50. Was really worried at the first break as gold Coast were shutting the ground down real well and we were making some dumb mistakes. Obviously they have a lot of injuries, and losing 2 players didn't help, but the pleasing thing was we put them away and kicked consecutive goals all night. Our midfield in 20-40 games from now is going to be scarily good. Jones, Viney, Oliver, petracca, Brayshaw and bugg are as tough as anyone in the league, but use the ball well too. Throw in Tyson, harmes, Kent, Kennedy stretch and possibly anb with Vince to have another few seasons. Skilled tough players who know how to hit the scoreboard as well. Looking forward to next Sunday playing the dogs, who may need directions from docklands to the G.

Spoke to Bernie earlier this year. Said he feels great and wants to play for 4 more years at least. Which would be the end of 2019.
-
A big head and ego? Hahaha. The same little kid who flew Lucas Maher over from tassie for the game among other things? Get your head out of the sand.
-
Jeez some absolute flags posting about him. In a team comprehensively beaten around the ground, he played a role and performed as well as expected. I look forward to the next 4 to 5 games, preferably with a better midfield effort from the rest of our players.

You'd think a look tomorrow the win/loss column over the past 2 years of roos tenure, as well as finals played and finals won would be a motive. Now I know the season is a marathon not a sprint, but surely any time you step on the field you're thinking about how to impact the next contest/play that can help your team. On Saturday we had so many players who went through the motions. I'm sure others who were at the game can agree with me how frustrating it was watching our players amble (barely a jog) from contest to contest. And I'm not talking young players. If jogging to contests was a crime, Vince, Jones, mcdonald and Tyson* would be most wanted men. *yes I understand Tyson is still young but he's what, 5th year on a list?

Great post!

Just got home from the game. Can. Otherwise believe the hate for petracca on here. If you're bagging him on here go and flush yourself down a toilet with your stink opinion. Yes he was caught but he was clearly playing afl footy- trying to create and take game on. macca- well you were horrible and this far this year you are well down . Stop trying to do to much with and without the ball, and play your role. Getting beaten far too often son. Jetta- worst you've played today, but you have been so reliable for so long. Not our worst but for you, far down on what's expected. To be beaten so often on the spread but also one on one... bounce back. Salem- today was a game you probably shouldn't ever look at again. You were destroyed defensively, but you gave us very little offensively. First give, smart give. Use your right, handball.. today was a bad day but you'll bounce back. Dunn- might be time to go mate. I've always admired you, but today and this season, free kicks against are killing us. You're instrumental in free kicks behind centre, and if you're up there standing the mark, you're irrelevant in terms of defending inside 30 of goal. You're playing a style that isn't going to take us forward. Viney- don't let the stats fool you, you were shown up today but that is a sign of respect- st kilda worried about you and tried to take you out of the game. That you were able to get so much footy highlights your ability. With experience will come composure and I await the day, because you will be a top midfielder in the league. However today was a learning curve. Gawn- the sooner the 3rd man up is illegal, you will be the best ruckman in the game. It's unfair how a hack like hickey can hold you whilst a st kilda player jumps over you. The one rule that needs chamging- ruckman vs ruckman go head to toe, that's their domain. 3rd up and shepherds need to be a free. Kent/harmes/ watts/Kennedy- you've all been pretty solid so far this year, but you need to learn how to scrap amd fight for possession or at least halve it. So often you guys let it get out on the spread from our forward half. That may or may not be st kilda but surely we allowed them that luxury. Coaching group- 22 goals. So many over the top "cheap" goals and nothing changed. Dunn went forward and pederson back. All that did was rob us of a forward target. They killed us on the spread, dragged our zone out wide and then sliced us through the the centre. They played terrific, don't get me wrong. But surely there comes a stage where goals are scored so similarly that you change something... 22 goals is unacceptable. Quite frankly, this shows how reactive our coaching group is, but also highlights that we need more consistency still. Part of me thinks the players read way too much publicity this week, no one seemed keen to get their hands on the ball, but on that- WTF WAS THIS AT ETIHAD????

Dees fans everywhere around the docklands precinct. Get here now if you're sitting on the fence!
-
All the people on here sooking about going to etihad. Ffs really? There are goal posts at each end, seats if you want to sit, rails if you want to lean and beer if you want a drink. Stop crying like pretentious spoilt brats and go watch the Dees rack up three in a row. Oh yeah, by NOT going to this game out of protest at it being at etihad, you're hurting your own clubs bottom line.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 6
Generation dee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
You know he's played four games right? And the team didn't exactly have any passengers on Sunday night. If he comes into the side, who goes out? -

I fear for the day you are happy after Thursday night team announcement... -
If Matt Jones, terlich, gawn, pederson and hunt can all improve to the extent they have over the past 12-24 months, no reason why Spencer can't either. Good luck to him, at the very least he deserves some injury luck and a sustained run.

Jeez you post some tripe. Why is petracca any different to anyone else on the list? The club has repeatedly said regarding draft pick "it doesn't matter what pick they were when they get here, they are just another player who has to work hard" Now I want to see him debut as much as anyone, but at the expense of garlett, who is one of the best small forwards in the game? Why has there always got to be hidden motives? He's around the mark. At this point in his very brief and interrupted career, he's obviously between 22nd-27th on the list. -

Absolutely agree. Richmond have no one that can slow down our quick small forwards. We can definitely use that advantage coupled with stretching them in the air with hogan, watts, pederson and frost. -

On Sunday night, a Melbourne supporter put his bet slip up after. he Collingwood game. Viney for 30 disposals and watts for 3 goals or more. He put 500 on and collected a tidy 5.5k. Money for jam. -
Matt Jones 2016>2015 Some people saying that bugg gets dropped too, just wow.
-
Never spotted him. Definitely wasn't in rehab or main groups.
-
On top of that, skills looked sharp and the whole group was really up and about. They almost look like a country club, with how well they all get along and encourage. I can't see dawes being far away from returning to Casey. Trengove also looking quite good!
-
Was at training before I head to Sydney for the weekend, I spotted all regular players but vanders. Obviously king wasn't there. Garlett looks good to go. Petracca bouncing around like a 5 year old on red cordial.
