  1. Honestly mate, why? He just got through a full game albeit against a depleted opposition. There are still 10 rounds remaining.. I think there is plenty of time for him to come back into the team. Writing a year off with 10 weeks to go is just absurd. Had he of got injured again today, I'd be inclined to agree. He didn't, bring on the scorpions game after the bye!
  2. Omac, tmac out , viv and Dunn in. Oh and petracca is a wasted draft pick like toumpas
  3. Whilst I agree with you saying the team who adapts quickest wins, do you think it is easier for a team who is experienced playing 1 style to change quicker, or a less experienced side who isn't as mechanical to change it up? On the Hawthorn visit, I'd have thought we were definitely out-smarted in the wet. It was obvious how we were outsmarted even though we played harder and contested much better. But we didn't adapt our style of play to the conditions, even though a slick Hawthorn team changed their usual possession off style to beat us. I'm sure we learnt a lot more out of that game than we have let on thus far. If it's as wet as the Hawthorn game, I'd bank on an even smarter Melbourne performance. That doesn't guarantee a win, but we are definitely a learning team
  4. Did Brisbane really just have 110 more possessions, win the contested possessions ND similar tackles and inside 50s, yet still lose by 8 goals? Massive shout out to anyone who watched that in full.
  5. Will go down in history as one of our finest, not only for his career, but how he conducted himself, stayed loyal and bought a lot of belief and mate ship over a young team. Anyone disputing that, gtfo.
  6. He could say that, same as I said Scully will end up staying. Doesn't mean a lick of difference that Daw isn't rubbish
  7. But if dropped marks were the kpi he would keep Dawes outta the team. At least Dawes brings pressure, intensity and second efforts. When majak doesn't have the ball, he is a daw stop. Is the Herald sun hiring? I write my own material.
  8. Shaun burgoyne for the academy award, best romance scene in an action film
  9. My favorite so far, the scuffle at quarter time. Bruce "well we know Cyril can fight"
  10. North are showing how to play against Hawthorn. Hit them back, pressure their ball carrier and close down their midfield space. But the biggest one is- kick the goals when you get the chance!! Should be 5 goals up on that, I can only assume that Hawthorn regroup and come back. The reason we kept so much pressure on them is because we are super accurate 2 weeks ago.
  11. Wouldn't get the 2 completely intertwined. Roos clearly viewed Howe as expendable last year, especially with the footy department desire to bring in competitors. Macca is a competitor, is on the leadership group and is our number one key back. My mail is and has been for a while that he will sign soon as well as an extension to oscar, around the bye. Just out of curiosity, have you or anyone else ever seen a player contract? I mean, there are literally pages of criteria and elements that go with the salary. My pet hate of the media is saying "player X is on a deal for 750,000 a season." For example. That's never the case, unless player X played all 22 games, plus media contributions, kpi's met and so on. 750k is the absolute maximum speculated. Very rarely is it accurate.
  12. Point exactly. I would say midfield depth. Sloane has a strong workmanlike midfield around him, as well as possibly the best forward line in the comp. A lot easier to kick long to this forward line than what ours has consisted of, especially the past 5 years.
  13. If you're going to say anything at all about the one consistent shining light of our deplorable team over the past 8 or so years, be prepared for a backlash no matter how much "you're not after a discussion on jones" While Jones may not have an elite trait, in your eyes, how do you measure durability, ability to extract clearances, get to contest after contest, contend with tagging, perform consistently above average for a midfielder in disposals, tackles contested possessions all while doing so playing high game time with (until recently ) little to no midfield help? You want to talk about elite traits? How does leadership sound? Anyway, you can say what you want. Disagree all you like, Jones is in the top 25 midfielders in the comp and has been for several seasons. Prestia coming will simply add more midfield depth to our already growing young stocks, especially as he is closing in on 100 games and has hopefully come through his injury issues.
  14. Settle down, not everything is an argument. You're allowed to have a discussion. Just because a bloke doesn't hit lace out passes every kick, doesn't mean he isn't elite. Priddis, swan and Sloane all come to mind. Jones has consistently improved his game every year he has been here. Debatable about this year as he has been playing different roles, but in saying that even versatility csn be seen as an improvement.
  15. The two games they played this year in the wet, are the two games they have been most vulnerable. Gold Coast and Brisbane. I agree, I have watched them a few times this year and some of the so called contested kings they have, have not looked anywhere near as willing to get their hands dirty in a few games. Obviously they are a class team, but Richmond, GWS, Brisbane, severely depleted gcs and adelaide have all shown they can be beaten in the midfield if you contest hard enough.
  16. Alright, just for a purely hypothetical question. How would fyfe, dangerfield, pendlebury, priddis or hannebury have performed had they been at Melbourne circa 2010-2015? I only ask, because in my view, he has carried the midfield year after year with either kids, tagged weekly, jumped on and scrapped or just fighting a tidal wave of opposition midfield domination. I k ow my hypothetical question is an invalid point, but if you don't think Jones is elite, purely from a consistent, durable, performance point of view as a one man midfielder in a terrible team, then I'm sorry but you must be watching a different bloke.
  17. Short memory mate, there were things Brayshaw did last year that absolutely demonstrate how he will become a terrific player for us. Pay no attention to his first 6 months of this year- preseason injury, concussion and a lack of continuity playing have worked against him. Think he will develop into a player very similar to Jobe Watson was at his peak.
  18. Could probably name 15 of our 22 from Monday who love a slog. I'm betting bugg, Kennedy, Tyson, hogan, Dawes, gawn, jetta, Oliver, kent, trengove, Vandenberg and petracca all love the contested scrap this will turn out to be. And I'll mention your boy watts who was very impressive in our last hitout in the wet. Optimistic about our hopes on sunday
  19. Read back a few pages. Been plenty. In fact there has been numerous calls to get rid of both McDonald's. Funny you mention picket, been awfully quiet today, thankfully. For a bloke averaging nearly 20 disposals a game, as a key defender on his second year, I reckon we should be pumping his tyres up. At this point in his career, he stacks up statistically as well as any other young defender in the league. Daniel Talia, rance, Frawley and Thompson have all taken punishment as young defenders and are now premier defenders, and they all had much easier introductions to senior careers than oscar.
  20. When you're the editor of the Herald scum, you'll see that "dee-spair of Collingwood, essendrugand ninthmond" will far outsell printed copies of "dee-molition at the g" or "doing the M-C--DEED" Let them cry, let them argue about how pathetic they are. Let the media focus on GWS, or danger, or whoever it will be this week that's flagfavorite.we can just continue along, more experience on the big stage with more games into Wagner, petracca, gawn, Viney etc. We will bring the 6 minute important segment to them, in time.
  21. Says the bloke who hasn't been to a game since the last time we beat Collingwood twice in a year. Jks old boy
  22. Been a massive omac supporter because I've seen his growth from before Tom got drafted all the way too now. I know he will be a terrific chb. Just want to point out his improvement from round 7 til now when hecame back in and numerous people got into him. With exposure comes experience. Possibly this week's rising star. Viney ends with 30 and a goal, Tyson Vince and Jones terrific, gawn I've run out of words for, frost best game for Melbourne, Kennedy showed he is an a grader and Kent was massive. Petracca just reminding why he is the 2016 rising star. Bring on next week. We toyed with them. Give is a challenge Sydney
