  1. Overrated. Pretty sure I said as such as he was gifted his AA medal. Hawthorn in their prime covered for his deplorable decision-making and execution. Amazing how many B graders like Breust and Mitch Duncan and C graders like Josh Caddy look amazing to simpletons with elite talent around them. Robert Walls's view that champions need to have premiership medallions is neanderthalic in thinking. Give me a Robert Flower in a pathetic side anyday.
  2. In the era of not relying on one person (eg Buddy at Hawthorn in his last year there), it is amazing how we had all our eggs in the Gawn basket. 3rd man up rule has gone from being our friend to our worst nightmare. If Spencer doesn't work out, we will be forced to consider Beveridge's tactic in Freo in 2015 where he dropped Minson and put 4 onballers to go up against Freo. Chris Scott did this against North in round 2 also.
  3. Anyone else notice Jordan Lewis going to his knees several times yesterday? The game is past him, and he aint 3 games into a 3 year contract. And when he fails to see half his contract out on the field, many simpletons will point to leadership and 'off-field' supplementation. I guess he has plenty of time in the next 3 weeks to focus on leadership and off-field value. pTGR
  4. If you are one of the slowest teams on the outside in terms of leg speed, you definitely need to be tough inside. MFC supporters tend to rate experts on how favourable they are toward the club, rather than objectivity and accuracy. I recall he was after (Garry's pick) Neeld's head after 2 rounds, which only those that could see clearly, were calling for. I think Brad Johnson's call regarding Freo pre-2016 was one out of the box.
  5. Crownbet streams live AFL for free I think
  6. Marko needs to clear his sinuses. Andy Maher is the only bloke I know who can talk under water with the sides of his lips sewn together.
  7. The guy sings his spoken word. He wanted Hawthorn to name the flank after him at Glenferrie Oval.
  8. Not a good year for the MMM boys club. My heart bleeds for them. Hutchy is limited but one of the few that can partially save the anachronism.
  9. Quicker than Lewis and a heap of teammates.... He holds on to the ball? Correct? He doesn't get caught HTB all that often. Maybe his last 1-2 games, but there are mitigating factors there. Slow is only a problem if you get caught with ball too much. Sam Mitchell is slow, but that has never been an issue.
  10. What the hell would Mr. Symbolism know? If that guy had anything to do with this football club we would be overdosed on gestures by the 2nd week. Obviously all aint good above the neck with H. He may turn out to be Roos' first failure at landing an established player from another club. Neeldy had 5 in his first month. I hold out a scintilla of hope that he does a mea culpa; gives a Rudd-style apology whilst looking over Gosch's paddock, and gets his nose down and bum up.... Any supporter who thinks we don't need what this guy brings (run and carry and break a line) is kidding themselves. Actually, we have a few obviously. A few months ago, many here rated us nearly as good as the bulldogs; and better than the saints FCS. pTGR
  11. Because he wants to show us that he doesn't care. It is more than not caring.
  12. Call me cynical, but the coincidence was that Garry announced his depression right on-cue (when Bill found his slippers under the bed). And before those sanctimonious start coming to the defense of the depressed, just make sure you stood up for the hammering Mitch Clark got on here. Garry once had the aura and reputation of a great leader and sharp footy brain. I think the "great leader" remains somewhat, but his credibility as a sharp footy brain with authority and integrity has surely eroded. This guy was instrumental in the worst coaching appointment in living memory Full stop. Hindsight is an excuse. Smart people knew Neeldy's appoint was a joke at the time. On Footy Classified, Garry has often commented on the integrity of footballers, and "taking ownership for your actions" or words to that effect. His base is eroded. He can comment, but with eroding authority. But hey. As long as he picks Melbourne in the tips, that's all that most of us care about. If I watch FC, it will be for Lloyd (on-field) and Caro (off-field). Maybe I might watch the 'closing cook' as long as he finally looks at himself.
  13. Anymore? Never was. As for captaincy material, other than his playing ability, he would have scored a 0/10 for everything else; like commitment, attendance, articulation, communication.... Makes Richard Vandenburg look like Mick Voss.
  14. Will Matt still do Roos Views to see if Paul's fav color for the week has changed? Can't wait for Goody's Gossip every week in '17 BTW.
  15. Why not? As long as the role doesn't require Oct - Feb....he is free to accept anybody offering big bucks for a Mar - Sep role.
  16. So you and the football world would have preferred for Scully to announce his departure to another club 12 months before?
  17. I'd like to see "Sliding" back at Collingwood where they might pick him up late. Some said it here, that if he could ruck a bit, would be of value. Didn't Neeldy agree to his request not to play ruck? Self-defeating on both counts.
  18. Get over it FCS. If it was your son, or mine, he would do exactly the same thing as Scully. Remember our culture back then? Scully is getting injured because he is training too hard!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA. No wonder we weren't anywhere near league standard when an 18/19 year old was showing everyone up on the track. Instead of the lazy older players lifting to his standard, we had the old-boys pointing at him saying "serves you right" Let's see. Stay here under Neeldy at 3-400k for 3 putrid seasons; or go to GWS on $2 mil for your first year? Lying to Stynes' face? Pfft. I'm sure Garry has done a lot of lyon lately, and he was older, wiser, and more respected than a young boy. The Scully bashers here are absolute nuts. Cookoo squared. He made the only choice, albeit the right one.
  19. The guy who sold shares in the demons the night we lost the Freo final in 2006? Yeh thats me.
  20. The positive is that we paid nothing, but on-field Lewis will under-deliver. That 3rd year will be a complete waste of money, but many will say that is what it took to get him here. Yes, our 3rd man-up at ball-ups will be more unpredictable with Watts and Lewis floating around Gawn. Sam Mitchell is an A+ grade on-baller, and had an A grade year. On the surface, Lewis is just beneath him....right? Well how come Hawthorn get pulverised in contested ball? Not beaten. Pulverised. The footy world and our supporters are delusional if they think Lewis at 31/32, with no speed, leap, change-of-direction feathers, will be anything more than a good-ordinary player. I hope we reap the rewards off-field (leadership, mentoring, marketing); because it wont be on-field.
  21. At least I predicted it 12-18 months ago; unlike the usual Johnny-cum-latelys that ring SEN and blog on here.
  22. You fail to understand that Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell are two different people. Next.
  23. The big difference is that my pessimism is backed up by half a brain, which invariably proves correct. What did I say about Morton by his 8th game? What about when Garry picked Neeldy? Jeff White less than a year after his AA..... The list goes on. I'm happy to bump this thread in a year or 2. Come to think of it, admin would just close the tread. Gloating ain't in our DNA.
  24. Hawthorn are laughing all the way to the bank. Hartung will never be a A-grade or B+ footballer. Never. Sam Mitchell is just past his prime and will retire in 1 year. Lewis' decline will occur faster than most footballers. When you come to the end of a dynasty, the tendency is to be ultra-loyal to your premiership heroes. Geelong, bar Stevie J, did it, when they were forced to land a top-3 player about to enter his prime. Brisbane kept their ageing stars, whereby Aker was forced out because he didn't conform...and there was the Bradshaw debacle for Fev. Clarkson is a genius. Mitchell is what 34. In 18 months, he'll be in pasture. But at least this 34 year old can move sideways in elite terms and has special awareness second-to-none. Lewis is getting slower, and wasn't fast to begin with. Hawthorn wont miss him in 12 months. Actually, anybody that new anything about footy, came to Hawthorn's last game this year, knowing that the Bulldogs were going to treat them like wet cement. Don't get me wrong, Hawthorn minus Hill, have our problem with less outside speed and run. But Clarkson, if he can swindle pick 48 for an ageing one-dimensional 30 year old going on 36.....then it will be a decision that pushes them closer to their next window quicker. The cocky eastern suburbs Hawthorn supporters may not like it in the short-term, but this strikes me as Croad mark II, so they will soon praise the decision. As I said time and time again for the last 18 months, we are too one-paced and lack line-breakers. This trade does nothing to improve it, only enhance it.
