Likely changes now outs. Petty inj. Sparrow susp ins Tmcd/BBB , Jordon (Harmes as sub) when we lost Petty last week , our forward line looked less dangerous in the air. JVR and Gawn/Grundy. Goody tried Gawn forward after 1/2 time but we needed him on the ball.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

I think Cooper Simpson is definitely be youngster that would be an excellent addition. Dees could give him time to develop and he’s got the skills and footy intensity to be a very good midfield player. -
Sparrow cops one week ban for rough conduct

Not sufficient video No free kick paid Arms not pinned player moving at pace - not a standing sling no concussion to impacted player basically it again is a strange MRO decision I saw Rowell do exactly the same on Friday night. I’ll have to try to pinpoint the timeframe it’s simply “revenge of the MRO “ starring Michael (I love the Pies) Christian -

Yes likely no change. Possibly BBB for Petty if the foot issue rules him out. Agree that Hunter has dropped off a little. Zero tackles (several missed) shows his defensive work is below par. Often also taking too long with disposals that slows down ball movement. Will stay in despite JJ deserving a start. Spargo just a game. His late goal gives him relevance. Goody loves him so he stays in. Would like to see the “round 1” Kozzzy return (minus the suspension). He’s going his hands to footy but either fumbling or in heavy traffic. Needs to work on being front or behind packs for crumbing. His pressure rate is still high with another 5 tackles this week. JVR is a beauty but still raw. Got pushed aside and under the footy by Sicily. Needs support. Petty was good in first half and hope is fit for next week. Port at home. A huge test. We’ve been ok against moderate to low teams so this is a pressure week.

Welcome to Demonland: James Jordon
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
4+ years on. JJ was the “23rd man” in our premiership team of 2021. A solid contributor throughout 2021 playing every game and a rising star nomination… but ultimately unfortunately could not get on field in the GF (despite Harmesy getting those lower leg cramps 🤣🤣) He was on the fringes yet looked more likely last year again to cement a spot with 22 games and being part of the midfield group. With Hunter joining the Dees, Jordon seems to have been downgraded and lost his spot. Versus the Suns, JJ played his role last week. Went at 89% efficiency at his 17 disposals. Now JJ is dropped again for our round 9 game v hawks. Very unlucky imv to be replaced by Spargo. Not sure what message is being sent. I thought with Chin and Kozzzy we have 2 small forwards and Spargo wasn’t setting the world on fire prior to his concussion. So with JJ out again and his contract ending this year, is he likely to leave and get better opportunities elsewhere. As we previously downgraded him to the rookie list at the end of 2020, he is a free agent and will get definite offers if he remains unsigned. 50+ games and still only 22, he is a good young bloke with lots of footy ahead of him (ps. I’d like to see him perhaps tried as a small defender role to tackle some of the Papley, Cameron, Greene, Rankine types). -
Frame this … Will Houghton KC is representing Melbourne and young star Jacob van Rooyen. He is arguing that rule 18.5.1 is there to protect a player whose sole objective is to either contest the mark or spoil the mark. He says rule 18.5.3 contains a protection or an immunity to the player, when their sole objective is contesting a mark or seeking to spoil a mark, from being charged with a reportable offence. The rules: 18.5.1: The Player whose sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark shall be permitted to do so. 18.5.3: Incidental contact in a Marking contest will be permitted if the Player's sole objective is to contest or spoil a Mark. Houghton argues that van Rooyen spoiled the mark using an outstretched arm and fist to punch the ball away, which should be the end of the matter. That’s our case.

and we wait and wait and wait … surely it shows there is no simple Guilty decision. We have the rules to show his innocence.

I like Petty back. I think Petty can be ok as a forward but ultimately is better as a key defender. Our success has been with Petty in defence over the past 2 years and he’s a key part of the defence. Last week we saw Lever having to man up more on Chol and our defence wasn’t as effective without Lever’s interception marking. Other club want Lever to be static and defensive rather than come across to spoil or intercept. Moving Petty forward helps other teams achieve this.

Outrage. 47 pages. They AFL are just making it up as they go. Fogarty. Oops a mistake. Why not bring that to MRO and the tribunal. It was far worse. No striking. No intent. No swinging arm. No concussion. Should have reasonably foreseen causing injury and contact. Thats not right. Where’s that new rule !!!! That’s every contest in our game. You cannot stop going for a spoil in a marking contest.
