Petracca’s goalkicking
My simple rules 1- keep his head down over the ball (he’s lifting it too much too early ) 2- he drops it too high and too much room between drop and connection. It’s an over accentuated style. He must keep his right hand on the footy for longer 3- Fear of what? Missing a goal. Ffs. Mental demons. We all face adversity in life. Practice practice practice.

I think Petracca is on 17 Brownlow votes now. None in the last 2 weeks.

+70 possessions. +42 contested possessions. +27 inside 50’s. + 8 scoring shots. +15 free kicks. +19 clearances lost by two points Goodwin. Time to fix it. You’re the coach. Our forward structure is horrible. Entries into forward 50 are haphazard. “We’ve been working on it”. Wow. It doesn’t show. It’s got worse in fact.

Petracca’s goalkicking
Unfortunately Trac’s goalkicking woes in 2023. 12-19 so far and 9 out of bounds on the full. 12 goals from 40 shots. He looks devoid of confidence and more likely to kick goals from quick snaps than prepares set shots. He missed 3 gettable goals v gws giants (amongst our 5/15 debacle and a bad 2 point loss). His return of 0.4 led commentators to call out his woes. I’m fact inside forward 50 he seemingly now looks to handball off to teammates. Trac is a legend. One of our greatest. But he is a very very good footballer. Not elite. Elite comes with the responsibility to kick telling goals. To grabbing games and winning them. He did it in 21 GF. He can do it. I hope he works to ensure his goalkicking is an asset and not a liability.

Goal kicking accuracy 2023
Last 4 weeks 8–13 v blues … blues were horrible , Dees were less horrible (v6-8) 8-18 v pies … Dees dominated and should have won by 6+ goals yet won by 4 points (v9-8) 8-15 v cats … Dees fell away to cats pressure (v11–12) 5-15 v Giants … Dees had 73 inside 50s and lost by 2 points (v7-5) 29-61 over 4 weeks. Poor. Very poor. Goalkicking is a physical and mental exercise. It’s also how the entries into 50 are created. Dumb kicks to packs are easily defended. And stupid videos of players kicking ridiculous banana kicks doesn’t help supporters frustrated by their inability to kick goals from 25-30 metres out.

Agree. He might be a rookie chance and develop in partnership with his brother. Just looked like he needed some marking guidance.- Targets 2023
Thanks Deetox. Flanders seemed to be in good control of his disposal v Pies even under the heat of the pies Mids. I’m thinking who’s available and might not cost us either of our 2x first round picks. He might be gettable for a future 2nd round.- Targets 2023
Two main targets for me are Mitch Georgiades and Sam Flanders midfielder Sam Flanders is reportedly on the radar of multiple clubs as the cessation of his contract with the Queensland club nears. Flanders joined the Suns as the 11th overall pick in the 2019 National Draft and has managed 34 games since making his debut in 2020.- Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
- 2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Brown is ok. Not a Daicos or Ashcroft father son. He might go late in the draft or we can automatically pick him up as a rookie. He’s got his father’s determination so he’s a chance.- 2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Good call DD36. De Mattia is one to watch now he’s concentrating on his footy (very good young cricketer as well). Good pace for inside mid. Liked his burst with the footy. Footskills need work. In the vic metro v SA match, I liked Harvey Johnston’s game, as a smooth mover across half forward with evasive skills and smart play, and liked Archie Roberts as a very skilled left footer with his accuracy to hit targets. Not top 30 but either definitely could be handy pickup in a 3rd round. I am still on board with our 1st round picks to look at Mids like Zane Duursma (the priority) , Tassie’s Sanders and Mckercher, Darcy Wilson and Cooper Simpson.- PREGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
In 2021, we had the eye of the tiger. We were desperate. Hungry. We had the defensive wall. Opposition were like flies landing in the Lever-May web. Now in 2023 seemingly we are drinking our own bath water again. Will it just happen ? No. It’s not a panic call. But we have a very very good team of very very good players. We are in the premiership zone competing against a hungry pack - Magpies, Lions, Power all looking likely. Where’s the excitement factor coming from ?- PREGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
- 2023 Injury List
Yes it’s disappointing and is a loss. But silver lining is that he was being managed across the season, this is a chance to freshen up as well. Get him right for rounds 19-20 onwards.- Targets 2023
Targets? Currently … Anyone that can hit (kick) to a target over 20-30 metres !!!
