  1. Heartless display coaching panel needs to go back to basics. My top 10 things MFC needs to do are. 1. Know the color of your own teams jumper and kick and hand pass to that. 2. Learn how to count and subtract, i.e. do not kick to out numbered and out gunned players. i.e. 1 melbourne player is not going to beat 2 or 3 port players. Clark was out numbered most of the day but we still kicked it to him, where the hell was the spare melbourne player? 3. for heavens sake stop with the spare man in defense it just leaves us a man short everywhere else, every side knows this so players peal off from their man to cover the free man, which creates another free man, etc..... dumb football why with so many coaches do they not see this..... 4. stop zoning, zoning is just a way to try to capitalise on poor disposal from the opposition. i.e. a way to get cheap kicks without putting your body into the contest or winning the ball, sets up a mentality of not having to go in and get it. 5. Man up, so many uncontested ball gets from port shows we were not even trying to make a contest of it. 6. Stop the stupid switch on the backline, players kick it to someone 40 meters out which switches it back to the back pocket, then switches to the other back pocket net gain Zero. 7. Look to men who are open, lots of times melbourne players were open and no one wanted to give them the ball, just wanted to take it down the line, all the opposition coaches know our tactics and use that against us. 8. The 2 Jacks should resign as captains, they are too young and have done nothing to deserve being captains. Let someone more senior and more worthy of the role take the job. 9. Support Casey better so they can get some better VFL players, no point melbourne players going back to play with Casey if they are just as retarded as Melbourne is, Casey needs to be successful to help our players get better. Hogan needs someone to deliver the ball to him 10. Remind all players that there will be another major reshuffle at the end of this year and that few players are safe. Drop those who demonstrated a total lack of effort today, Watts, Frawley, Sellars, Tapscott, Gillies for a start.
  2. What a major disappointment for all supporters, who have been waiting for this day for so long to prove we have turned a corner, but it nothing has changed. different players same poor attitude, poor attack on the ball, lack of tackling, lack of intensity, no run, no shepherding, no heart. I dont understand why changes to our setup were not made watts was useless, as was sellers, it would have done no harm to have swapped players around. Blease could have come on at half time as we had so many useless players whos place he could have taken. Need a lot of changes to this side for next week, mostly a change of attitude and game plan. This zone defense is no defense at all. stop playing it, play man on man and run with your man. All the commentators were disgusted at the ease that port players were able to get on their own. this game makes neelds mantra of wanting to be the hardest team to play against an absolute joke.
  3. What an embarrassment, being booed off the field for that lame performance. I dont know why he has not moved watts and others they are ineffective where they are, moving them may do something. I really dont think we could beat GWS on this form, certainly not goldcoast. looks like we are tanking again.
  4. sellers is a waste of space on our roster.
  5. need to man up, stop playing a spare man in defense as that gives them a spare man everywhere else that is killing us. Swap some of these players around, preferable swap someone off and bring on Blease he may at least help give us some run. its going to be another disappointing year with this sort of commitment, I can see another major clean out coming at the end of the year if these guys dont lift their game.
  6. Absolutely woeful, no pressure on port, the few poor tackles we managed to do usually lead to a port free for high contact. I dont know if its their zone defense or inability to man up but port if finding it remarkably easy to rebound from our stuff ups. Clark and Viney the only two working their butts off.
  7. No-one is going to respect us until we prove our value on the field that does not necessarily mean wining, but we all hope it does result in winning. It means putting 22 FIT players prepared to play hard, to tackle hard and help out their mates, we expect honest football with what ever 22 players we put out there. How many years have we be using rebuilding as an excuse. There is no acceptable excuses for poor performance. Neeld is starting us in the right direction by getting the players fitter than they perhaps ever been. Its now up to the players to perform up to the level expected. I watched the Tigers play last night and while I am not a great tiger fan you have to like their hardness at the ball, if they could only kick straight they would be a pretty good team. I would to see Melbourne at least reach that level in the next year or so before they go beyond it to try to win a long over due flag. If we loose, i hope its only by a finger nail and not through the lack of trying.
  8. Dawes is fit enough to stay in the forward 50 and contribute to marking contests. I would prefer he not run all over the ground, as we have often seen all our forwards running up to the wing to get kicks and no-one staying home to mark or we are out numbered by the defenders in our forward 50. I like to idea of forwards staying in or around their positions.
  9. Money will decide the issue, Carlton playing at the G more regularly will get a bigger crowd than us which will make Carlton, AFL and MCC all very happy and rich. Melbourne and smaller clubs will be pushed to docklands or possible Princes park. The AFL may bring Princess park up to scratch just so that it has leverage over the docklands and MCG. By upto scratch I mean up to scratch by smaller clubs standards not bigger clubs standards. Unfortunately we need loyalty from the MCC to protect the MFC.
  10. Good ploy by port to kick into the breeze first as the first quarter would most likely result in players just trying to get some touch, hence our not so good first quarter. Sad about our second though, sounds like the players were not even in the contest.
  11. While I would love to see us win a lot more games I am more interested in us getting our game plan right this year. We still need to cover basic stuff like tackling correctly, shepherding, kicking long, forward pressure, crumbing, clearances and building depth, because at the moment we all seem to be relying on Clark and Dawes to come in and save us, which hopefully will happen but if it doesnt where do we go?
  12. Going always around the boundary makes us to predictable. need to be flexible. Nothing better than seeing Dunn barrel a torp to the middle and have our guys run on to it. Need to see more of that this year, but you can only do that sometimes. I liked the way we chipped it around in a couple of the Nab cup games until we found an option often that was off to through the middle as the opposition was expecting us to go around the boundary. Just our disposal let us down, which frankly if you have good disposal you should be able to go anyway you want.
  13. Goodvibes, what was our tackling and disposals like, where were we turning the ball over the most, forward, back or midfield.
  14. We cannot as a team make excuses for the fact that our best players are not playing, every side has injuries we can only do what we can with the players as does every side. Our best in the practice matches so far has been disappointing to say the least.
  15. Yes it was a practice match, but lets not give players the excuse its ok to loose. We played badly for at least 2 out of 4 quarters by the sound of things. We cannot hope to improve if we keep our trying to convince ourselves we dont have a problem. We need to assess what went well and what or who failed. This will ultimately mean we need more players so a number of those that played today or did not play at all will need to up their performance drastically else they will be leaving at the end of the year.
  16. Bombers will come out of this without any issues, not because they are not guilty, but because the AFL would not like this to be the case. Given Danks past history you would have to expect what he used at other clubs would be what he used at Essendon, thats his formula. plus players having 40 injections of supplements over the year... The question is what were the coaches and doctors doing while all of this was going on, surely someone must have/ should have been asking questions on this.
  17. mackenzie is frightened to kick, he is always looking for a handball and it gets him into trouble, not as much trouble as his kicking, but enough to make him a liability as turnover kill us big time. Sylvia, hmmmm drop him to give him a kick in the butt to try to get him to put in, he has not impressed in any matches that I have seen, and as a senior player needs to stand up. Davey, hmmm again an issue with performance, love the guy as a player, as when he has the ball he uses it better than most, he just does not get the ball often enough, he just seems to get lost and does not know where or how to go to find the ball. always being led to the ball by his opponents. Needs to find some form in the VFL. I would bring in Matt Jones for mackenzie and Terlich for Slyvia, Kent for Davey
  18. Sylvia has not show enough so far, there is nothing in his performance so far to suggest that he has changed in anyways. At his age its a bit much to start to expect he is now going to turn it on. I would think Neeld is giving him time to see if he can come up with the goods, as he probably is with Davey if they dont, then they probably wont start round 1.
  19. Brent maloney has given away 4 frees so far in the brisbane game, umps must think he is still wearing red and blue.
  20. The free kick count is a worry, being second to the ball should mean we tackle but the tackle and free kick count seem to indicate that we did not catch them. players need more commitment to chase, unfortunately zone defenses often mean you are chasing. I hope we did not play a spare man in defense again, as we just end up chasing from one free player to another. Also with regard to Jamars taps were they to our players? or just tapping anywhere?
  21. So has dropping the ball totally disappeared from our game, some good tackling but players these days just let the ball go, what a shame not to reward the tackler, after tackling so rarely results in a free for the tackler with such poor umpiring that usually call the tackler for in the back, high, across the shoulder and holding the man. they latter i find most frustrating especially after a player has been tackled and drops the ball, then gets rewarded. A bit like the WC duck.
  22. can anyone explain what happened with that interchange non-50 meter debacle
  23. It's a nothing game, give the kids a chance to show in full game what they can do and put pressure on some of the older players who have not really hit their top form as yet. Some of these guys may really step up and show something.
