Getting 3 or 4 new players is not going to be enough, if the other 18 players out there are still playing dumb football. we need a better strategy than playing a loose man in defense and zoning. We need to play hard man on man football and have everyone accountable for their man. we have 8 lions players with over 20 possessions and 3 with 30+ possessions, which tells me we had quite a few players that were not manning up and were not accountable for their man. If we start to play accountable football then we will win games now, until then it wont matter if you bring in gary ablett we will still loose using our existing game plan and approach. if we can do this then lets see what sort of players we need, because at the moment we are not seeing how competitive and good our players are because they are protected patches or grass or chasing their man.

so with mitch out for 8 weeks, do you think this is going to hurt our premiership chances this year?

We were woeful again. Brisbane had 8 players with 20 or more possessions and 3 with 30 or more. we had 2 with more than 20, our best was terlich with 24. Opposition knows take out Jones and we have no one else. Thats the reality, everyone can talk about how lucky we are to be able to rotate grimes, Trengrove, Viney, Blease etc through the midfield reality is only Viney looks as if he is hard enough to be a sucessful, even then its going to take some time for him to get there. I hate the idea of playing Mckenzie, i like that he tries, but he is just not up to it, yes people say he stops the opposition, i personally didnt see that today. I would rather a player in there getting the ball and competing rather than have someone like mckenzie breathing down someones neck hoping to tackle them once they get it, truth was brisbane players shepherded him out or got rid of the ball before he could stop them. Our game is VFL standard at best. How can every other team take it so easily out of the centre without us applying pressure, they have players running everywhere while our guys stand around trying to figure out what blades of grass they should be minding. Tackling was a disgrace. Grimes effort in the last quarter was a true demonstration that we do not know or at time appear interested in tackling. Players play on and run themselves into trouble then handpass to someone standing still, aka sylvia's great run down to the 50 where everyone expected him to kick it and he hand passed to a players standing still who was tackled immediately. Melbourne was truely blessed today, blessed that brisbane did not kick straight or we would have had another 10 goal loss.

wow thats awfully professional of him, so how much were we paying him per game to not put in. Even if he does not like the coach he needed to put in for the team, that he did not do, could not be counted on to help his team mates out.

They had 13 more shots than us so if they had kicked straight it would have been 78 point loss would he also have been so positive of our performance. It was woeful as we are playing a bottom 6 side. Pretty soon he will be praising the team for winning 10 minutes of a quarter.

having shots at guys who have just walked in the door is certainly not going to help their development or their love for the club.

Give Jimmy some time to get used to the different tempo, he has excellent skills and was highly rated by virtually everyone above Ollie and others, he will do very well once he gets a bit more confidence and he is playing in a team that can deliver it to him better and help him around the ground.

I wish the MFC would spend the money to record/stream these games for their victory starved fans to watch.

I think giving players a run in the VFL to be a good way to try to get them back into form, or get them used to playing football at a high level. Resting watts and Jimmy seems to have deprived them of a chance of getting a bit of match practice.

Mckenzie does not do enough to justify a place, he does not dispose of the ball well and majority of his possessions are handpasses that gain very little meterage. I would prefer Rodan or couch.

We have all seen how bad we can play, but the last quarter against the GWS also showed us how we can play. I dont expect we will kick 12.xx too often, but be competitive put in, tackle, tackle, shepherd and help each other out. Any we may have a chance. A bit of confidence is all these guys need to get them off the floor and get them moving in the right directly.

One wonders if the real damage from the tanking saga was not so much the fine and the headlines but the fact that we have probably kept people at the club for a year or more to keep them quiet on tanking allegations.

Can someone enlighten me on this. didnt our last Dr leave because he was being asked to report to the sports scientist, yet dr bates is getting advice from an external sports scientist, is mission our sports scientist, if so how does Dr Bates do anything without mission or who ever our sports scientist is knowing?

one has to wonder where these text messages came from, it is unlikely Danks would have spread them as this would only show to the world that he cannot be trusted to keep confidential matters to himself, hence ruining what ever chance he had at a career in sports medicine. I wonder if the AFL or someone else has leaked these messages as they should not be that easy for someone to get. it does take the pressure of essendon now. if it goes the same way as tanking essendon will be forgiven because they confessed, melbourne will be fined $500,000 for some stupid trumped up charge, ala tanking but not tanking findings.

Our failure to disclose our involvement with Danks hits at the integrity of the club. If our Dr, trengrove, Dunn, Spencer and even Neil Craig have all been implicated via SMS messages then to say we had no involvement means we are either lying, or we have not got a clue what is happening in the club. Considering we have just gone through 6 months of tanking alegations etc we are not looking too credible or believable. Another sad day, not only because we are implicted, but also because the treatments obviously did not work.

Given our record so far, we cannot afford to be cocky, these guys will be looking for their first win and expecting us to be the best chance they will have to get it. They have shown more promise than our side in a couple of their games so far, so lets not get ahead of ourselves.

I dont understand people wanting blease back in already, from what i read of the match reports he did bugger all in the scorpions games last week. If we are going to promote guys from VFL to AFL based on their name instead what they do on the field then we have no chance. Re dropping Garland, he was given a horrible matchup and did his best under the pressure, think he did better than Frawley Brynes tried had reasonable stats for someone having to go up the ground to get the ball. if we could get the ball down to clark quickly where brynes and Davies can scout the packs i think he will provide a much better return for effort. Against GWS he has the talent to kick a bag full, which is not something we can say about many of our players. Gawn needs to come in so that we play two talls, one in the goal square to allow mitch some room to maneuver and roam around. Need to have more than one of our players and 3 of the opposition players in our half of the ground to get a decent score.

Jamar was not brilliant, but he was doing this alone most of the day, maybe he would do better if he had better backup so could go off the ball. As for Garland, he was obviously outgunned. Given Frawley is supposed to be our gun backman you have to ask why Garland was given the role he was given.

C&B excellent replay. Though I wonder if the club should not be looking at the first 2 quarters to go over what they did there that was different, where we won, and how we won. As those two quarters are the style of play we need to reproduce for 4 quarters well enough to be competitive.

Frawleys last couple of years have been pretty poor, so he is taking a risk in someone picking him up especially for big $$'s, which he is getting at Melbourne because we have a very loose cap, others that have a tight cap are not going to be paying him more than we are, as they are taking a chance with a guy who has shown no motivation and a [censored] poor attitude, not traits that you want in a player.

We have the cattle to play well enough to beat Brisbane, its a matter of will they come to play, if they can reproduce some of that first half form against the Weagles then we have a chance. Sooner or later Dawes 4 weeks are going to finish so it may give us a bit more bite up forward.
