Do you think we'd pass on Smith if he's available at 5? Surely he's just about exactly what we're after?

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Taj Hotton is really interesting given he's missed so much footy with injury, but when he has played he's looked incredible. I think he's one that would definitely be top 10, if not top 5 if not for his injury, but likely to slide into the teens instead, could be a bargain pick up. -
Just get the feeling he's going to play on a wing and Langdon might move into the ANB high half forward role
-
Lindsay to me looks like some sort of combination of Josh Kelly and prime Jordan Lewis. i'd be very happy if we bring him in at pick 9. There are so many good players it feels like it'll be hard to stuff the pick up. I wonder if the Giants would be open to splitting that pick 9 into picks 15 and 16 and we could perhaps get Lindsay and Hynes to go with whoever we take at pick 5?

The thing with the Houston debate that i really think should become a norm in the AFL is the clubs power to trade contracted players. I have a view the players should be able to nominate a state, but beyond that if they're contracted and request a trade it'd effectively be consent to go to whichever club in that state can facilitate the best deal. Why should Port have to accept a lesser deal because of a players preference to get to Collingwood or Carlton? Players have far too much power in my opinion and it's working directly against the agenda of equalization.

Fitness nerd Ted looks at this and immediately what jumps out is considering he's had an extended period of essentially limited activity and low heart rate for his health reasons, his body weight % is still clearly extremely low which shows that Trac is absolutely elite, even among elite company for discipline, diet and sticking to his off field aspects of being a professional athlete. maintaining a body shape like he has is an extremely difficult task for 99.9% of people unless you have ridiculous genetics.
-
West Coast are obviously thinking potentially Bo Allen, Liam Baker and Matt Owies > Pick 3. It's not a ridiculous notion but i wouldn't have done this trade personally.
-
It's probably the first time in their careers that Trac and Clarry have had high end midfield talent at their own level come into the club through the draft, i suspect they'll quickly become big brother figures and mentors for these young guys.
-
Pick 5 will in theory be an A grade mid, essentially a Gus replacement, any of Smith, O'Sullivan, Langford, Lalor, Draiper, Smillie would make an immediate impact for us next year. Pick 9 is interesting, we could go tall and grab someone like Armstrong or Tauru or another mid like Reid, Lindsay, Travaglia
-
The top 10 in this draft just became even more interesting. Expectation is the Saints will take 2 mids with 7/8 North could look to swap their pick potentially. would the Saints swap 7/8 for 2 and something else? North would then get Armstrong and Tauru and the Saints get a top end midfield talent in the door. So much to play out between now and the draft
-
Langford and Travaglia or Reid would be an incredible result. If Armstrong made it to 9, which he won't i'd probably snap him up.
-
I think it's worth noting that 13 in THIS draft is seen by most experts as being the quality of a top 5-6 pick in some other drafts, which is why we would be willing to give up what potentially looks like overs on the surface. 5 and 13 will very likely be two very very handy players for a long time, and we already have a nice little core of young talent building. Jason Taylor is consistently the best asset this club has had for the last number of years.

Our offer is clearly the best on the table, they get a strong second round pick now, and a future first that could be as high as 4-5 Of those offers, ours is the best by a distance in my opinion
-
Do you have a preference and or inkling as to who might slip through to us? they're all very very handy players, I can't see Adelaide passing on the S.A boy in Draper, a trade at the top end would complicate things further potentially.
-
It depends on how you rate the talent. I would say the top 4 live selections (Not including Ashcroft) are very clearly the top 4 in Smith, Lalor, Langford, O'Sullivan. we could easily miss all four of them as it stands, so the value is, we potentially get access to a significantly better player, as well as an additional pick in the 20's in THIS draft which is loaded with talent, all for the price of backing ourselves to improve in 2025 which we should.
-
North are very open to sliding back so my proposition would be 2 and 22 for our 5 and future first. Assuming we make the 8 next year we could guess that would make it something like 5 and 13 for 2 and 22 which feels reasonably fair in general.

Pick 16 for Kozzie is a joke.

St Kilda wants to change father son rules
Ted Lasso replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
In my opinion the Saints are simply trying to put pressure on the AFL to make sure the Battle compensation is pick 8. -
It would be really unusual that Pert is doing that and not Tim Lamb though given TL is our list manager. It's also odd that this is going on when the reviews aren't finished yet, it feels a little to me like CO is being scapegoated as the source of all of our problems and it's not difficult to see they're a lot deeper than any one player, or even any of the players.
-
"After i have reviewed my own performance and swept all failings under the rug, i have concluded we have the greatest culture in AFL history and i've signed an extension for 20 more years"
-
If this is true, Gary Pert should resign. best culture in 40 years and the CEO has to step in and perform the list managers role for him.

Outside of Max Holmes, there is nothing Geelong can really offer that i'd seriously look at. I'd rather back Clarry in to return to his best form with a full pre-season
-
Hate this.
-
How on earth do Geelong offer anything that the MFC don't laugh at? Clarry clearly wouldn't fetch the sort of return he would have in 2021, but he's still worth well and truely more than 1 first round pick i would have thought. I'd wanna see Sam Dekonning and a draft pick or i would just back him in to get back to his best after a full pre-season.
