i would rather see Dan Houston go to another club than see us trade pick 6 for him.

Gus is battling to live a normal life and our players shook Maynards hand.. makes me sick tbh

It's so true, i went to the round 2 game when Essendon pumped us by 152 points with 3 Essendon supporting mates and it ruined footy for me for a good 3 years i reckon. even going through the drama we are right now i try to remind myself how much worse it has been.

He's perfect for what North Melbourne were eying Jack Viney for, a leader with premiership experience who will still contribute on the field and provide some leadership and experience in the locker room. My suspicion is he'll be at the Roo's next year.

No Oliver will be interested because in theory Sparrow should play as a full time on baller. it'll be great to see how he goes.
-
I thought it was hands down his best press conference since he has been at the club and exactly the type of leadership i wish we would see at times from pert and Richardson who are silent far too often when things are going wrong.

Good move, it's so silly to send him out there injured and at the mercy of the rabid media that are out to pile on the MFC at every opportunity, get him right so he can have a full pre-season and get back to his best next year. if we have a fully fit Trac and Oliver next year we will be back into the finals mix well and truely.

It's a really good point, i saw another poster saying earlier that if you reverse our close losses, we're sitting second this season despite our poor statistical profile, injuries to key players and patchy form. I can see why coaches would look at that and think a lot is going right and if we get players fit and healthy we can compete again, i still think if not for the Petracca injury we would be playing finals this season. I really hope we don't trade our pick 6 though, it seems clear that we need to continue to add top end young talent into the list so that we can remain competitive long term.

Without speaking to the results of the review before it happens i'd be absolutely shocked if Goody was under any pressure at all to retain his position internally. if we go all in on a flag, trade away our draft picks and miss the 8 in 2025, then i am sure the conversation will be had.
-
if the dogs pay some of his salary, and we give up virtually nothing in the trade, sure.
-
The club is signaling that we won't play hard ball on Alex and will work to get the deal done, my suspicion is that he will be a piece of the Dan Houston deal and this is already informally agreed between the MFC and PAFC

Far out this is a massive loss!

Thoughts on Liam Ryan? if he was open to the a move to the Dees he would add some X factor on the ground and in the air to our forward line, and potentially without a huge amount being required trade wise.

I must admit to feeling a little bit dissapointed that we've heard rumors of Clarry being traded, Trac wanting out, Viney being chased hard by north, all while we're losing games and the wheels feel like they're falling off and we have embarrassingly small crowds and we've not really heard from Roffey, Pert or Richardson at all. I am sure they're all doing enormous work behind the scenes, but publicly i think it would have shown some strength and stability if the leaders of the club got out there a little bit more. Mind you after the SEN interview with Goody and Pert i can definitely see the argument that he could make things worse rather than better.

Gawn is the best Melbourne captain i can remember so i would say it's his role until he doesn't want it anymore. I would have said Gus was a real chance to be the next captain if not for his concussions unfortunately, the guy was the heart and soul of the club. if Gawn decided to give it away i would say it'd be a co-captains situation with Petracca, Viney and Lever.

Revisionist History - Luke Jackson to Freo
Ted Lasso replied to ElDiablo14's topic in Melbourne Demons
We drafted him and he played a huge role in our drought breaking flag, and then he moved on respectfully and we got a solid return in the trade, we drafted him knowing the risks and i can't bring myself to regret any of this process. -
The problem is that we actually have a really good drafting record under Jason Taylor, he has a lot more wins than busts, and if we recruit Dan Houston it perhaps makes us better for 2-3 years, but then the cliff comes and we are trying to rebuild right as Tasmania enters the league. I am all for recruiting Houston, but not if it means including pick 7 in the deal, we need to keep using our strong draft selections for the next 2-3 years to stay competitive and find our recruits outside of that.

I'd start this by saying there are very few circumstances where i'd even consider trading jack viney because it would be a culture killing disaster. But hypothetically, he's contracted and our vice captain, i'd be saying to North Melbourne if you want him it'll cost pick 2. if they don't like that deal they can find another veteran to try and pry out of a club.

I am so flattered.

In fairness, they're big boys. I suspect most people "Look up" to them ;)

Great bloke but on the decline as a footballer and has some baggage, i'd probably prefer us back in Turner, Jefferson and Van Rooyen.

Darren Burgess Potential Return to Victoria
Ted Lasso replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
If he is interested in coming back move heaven and earth to get him back to the Dees, this guy is the absolute top of what he does and if he stayed i suspect we would have won 2-3 premierships. that's how big an impact he makes. -
It's not one bad year though, it's documented long term behavioral issues and an inability to reach club standards over several years, it's been excused because of his quality as a player, but the club decided to put culture first and pull him into line. If after all of that we decide to revert back to just allowing the standards to slip what i can guarantee you is we will lose some of our really good players like Petracca, Lever and so on who were fed up with it, and additionally any chance of building the kind of culture Gary Pert dreamed that we had will be exactly zero. It doesn't matter how good the player is, if they don't want to do the right things, they need to go. I personally hope Clarry has turned a corner and he will be back to his best in 2024, but i absolutely stand by the common sense assertion that if he hasn't, the club should and i suspect will look to trade him. All indications as of right now are that he's made significant progress and he should be incredibly proud.

My gut feel on Oliver is it sits on a knifes edge, the club is backing him, but if he slips up i think he'll be traded. I am sure there are some within Olivers camp that probably think a fresh start might even be the right thing for him. I personally hope he has a full pre season and bounces back to his best next year, but i think we as a club will be okay regardless of which way this one goes.

I really like Langford and the dream of he and Petracca being goal kicking mids who go forward and make an impact, but i get the feeling he'll go in the top 5 and be just out of reach unfortunately.
