In 2021 we really did seem to be channeling the be a great teammate, selfless stuff really well. Since then there have just been a lot of reports that suggest guys thinking about themselves, the position they'd like to play and so on, and i know that's just normal human nature type stuff. I'd love to see the new coach get us back to "I don't care if i get zero kicks, if it helps the team win the game"

I actually think there has been some sort of changing of the guard in terms of the "Face of the club status" I think Trac and Clarry have probably fallen out of it and Kozzie has jumped in. Really it's Kozzie and Gawn now

Why would fans discussing a situation directly relevant to our club, on a fan forum about that club be at all surprising or inappropriate. the thread is about our new coach and the journalist has used more than one entire segment to sell the idea that one of our leading coaching options should ignore our advances and should go to a club that doesn't have an AFL license, doesn't currently have a role advertised to even offer and she fails completely to acknowledge the enormous conflict of interest in having close relationships with several very high ranking people at the Tassie devils. It would be more odd, by a long long way if that wasn't an active topic of conversation on here. Imagine if Carlton sacked Voss and Damian Barrett was saying Horse should ignore the Blues and wait for Tassie, the Blues forums would be having the exact same conversations, without the notion of sexism entering into it.

You feel for Clarry because deep down he probably realises if not for his struggles and the dip in form the club might well have played finals the last 2 years, potentially won another premiership and Goodwin would probably still be coach.

I am actually predicting the opposite on this. I think she'll immediately stop talking about how bad Melbourne is and pivot to Carlton the second they look like sacking Voss.

It makes a lot of sense the Herald Sun would run with a story that's going to generate a lot of clicks, given that's their currency these days. It makes a lot of sense that Tassie would want to meet with Bucks and see where he's at with Melbourne and where that sits in terms of their own planning. Ultimately though Bucks i am sure is weighing up the reality that the Tassie job is very very likely to be a really hard slog for 3-5 years with no guarantee the coach even survives beyond that point to see the other side of the hard yards where as Melbourne with the right coach could well be in the finals mix in 2026. I will be hoping Bucks is meeting with Tassie to respectfully tell them he's pursuing the Melbourne role and he'll reach out if he misses out.

I agree the AFL conspiracy angle is a bit silly, but i think Caro is a person who does have a lot of close personal connections with very senior people associated with Tasmania and her bias and desire to help them is pretty clearly seeping into her reporting on this. I mean her arguement a coaching job that doesn't even currently exist is better than the Melbourne job Bucks is interviewing for is evidence of the enormous intellectual stretch she's making to try and make the two comparable enough to be worth discussing. I think this is the reason no other journo is seriously discussing Tassie as a viable alternative for Bucks, Damian Barrett did a good job talking about exactly this recently as well, stating Tassie might not ever actually have a job to offer so they really can't do much beyond sit and watch.

Caro thinks Melbourne is a bad job Paul Roos thinks Melbourne is a great job who would know? the media personality clearly pushing her own agenda or the premiership coach with intimate knowledge about the people and club in question?

Dogs, fair. But the Melbourne prospects are significantly better than Carlton or Essendon

Caro has also been shut down on this before but you’ve got a team that actually exists and plays at the MCG Every other week and is a real chance of playing ans winning finals in the near future vs an idea. A hypothetical team that might not ever exist and even if they do they’re minimum 5 years of getting belted every week off even being a chance to make much less win finals

Well as of now he’s still in the process so Caro and Brendan gale might be telling him not to, that doesn’t mean he won’t listen.

If we manage to find another mark neeld style coach it’ll be fun to watch him sack max as captain and appoint Windsor and Langford as co captains

I'm totally with you, but Sam Mitchell isn't exactly a picture of humility either, and he's a decent coach. the whole jab thing at Essendon is one example. I'd be happy enough with any of the candidates if the club thinks they're the best person, probably still hold a preference for Bucks as he does feel a little bit safer to me, but i'm really intrigued by Steven King as well

Makes life tough for Carlton, if a bloke is willing to give up hundreds of thosands of dollars to get away from you, it's probably a good indication the relationship is in a fair bit of trouble

I keep reflecting on this and Nathan Buckley as a person and i just can't see him being someone to string us along, i don't think he'd be engaging in any sort of process with us unless he was very close to 100% sure he wants the role

This is honestly getting a bit silly now! Can anyone actually see us passing on Nathan Buckley and signing James Kelly? That feels as unlikely as Nathan Buckley to waste his or our time interviewing for a job he doesn’t want. we want him, he wants us, the whole footy world needs it. Just make the call and save our time, effort and money and respect these 5 assistants time.

I don't think the two would be related, i know it's over a decade ago but when we signed Paul Roos we allowed him to continue media commitments beyond that point for the remainder of the season, and i'd suggest that would be exactly the same with Bucks

I do find this interesting. Chris Scott inherited a premiership list and was very fortunate in a way to get the first flag out of the way right away, Hinkley and Scott after that actually had really similar records in terms of being consistently around the mark without perhaps cashing in, Scott has probably tipped that further in his favour the last 3-4 years, but the idea Ken Hinkley can't coach is silly.

Honestly i think memories of Mark Neeld will be the reason we're super reluctant to hire any of the potential 5 untried assistants in this process, the huge bonus with Nathan Buckley is we know for sure he isn't going to be a Mark Neeld, which wouldn't matter as much for most clubs as it clearly will for Melbourne
