  1. Agree..he has no spot on our list. As I posted earlier I would be surprised if T Mac's management has not let it be known that he would take a paycut of say $100k. Add in $200k a year from us and his cost to a new club is around $400k. If he can't get a taker on that money he would be in real trouble.
  2. with North Carolina Texas and Florida likely to go to Trump it could simply come down to who wins Pensylvania. Seems like the pollsters got it wrong again. Amazing
  3. I had thought Biden would win Florida and that he had a show in Texas. Strong Mexican influence with a growing liberal base in the big cities. Biden lost Florida in Miami. Bash Cuba is the key to Florida it seems. Biden still on track for a reasonable win but no landslide. The real race is the Senate. A democratic presidency with a Republican Senate would be a terrible outcome with four years of legislative stalemates.. The unfortunate thing is that the Republican right will take a reasonable loss as a win thus raising the prospects of another populist candidate such as Trump in 2024.
  4. T Mac may have to accpet a salary cut if he wants to stay in the game. There are limited opportunities for him at Melbourne if we get Ben Brown. If he dropped to $450k of which we paid $200k he might get a buyer. He can then back himself to improve and get another few years at his new club. If it doesn't happen this year it's sure to happen in 2021 or he's out of the game. Of course there's no guarantee another club would take him at the bargain price of $250k which shows how low his stocks have become.
  5. ask GCS about being burnt on front ended contracts with Gary Ablett
  6. Imagine having 50 different voting eligibility systems not to mention 50 different sets of rules on how ballots are cast. The mind boggles. Used to work a lot in the US for a very big company. As you know the elections are on Tuesday (a work day) but the company dared not give their workers time off to vote as that was a political minefield. When looking at our policies for the Australian workplace they asked me what was our guns in the workplace policy. Imagine electing a guy (George W Bush) who had never been outside the US except to Mexico. They're just different and I'm not sure that being their "special friend"in the Pacific is the smartest move. Wednesday our time will be fascinating... Biden in a landslide (326 -210 if not 355-181) is my prediction simply because Trump will lose followers in the battleground states and Biden will gain more. The only unknown for me is how much the fear of covid has kept voters away (postal ballots etc aside).* The 2024 election could be interesting. Biden will be given a crap economy and a decent Republican candidate could easily take back the White House. Historically the real question for me is whether Trump is a a trend or an aberration. * I see the pundits are predicting the highest % turnout ever (around 65%) but they are doing that based on the number of pre poll votes. Voting on the day may well be low numbers thus balancing the two... who knows Finally here's a fun predictor to play with https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2020/oct/30/build-your-own-us-election-result-plot-a-win-for-biden-or-trump Texas could be the decider... if it swings to Biden it's game over
  7. Hard to make those sums work. Would have made for interesting discussion if Viney had gone to Geelong but short of trading Brayshaw which I don't support....mmmm..nah Must say my respect for Freo has gone up now we hear about all the triggers in Hogan's contract. Other clubs including ourselves could take lessons.
  8. Forget the thread but it was late in the year where it was suggested that the lead to the pocket was part of a team strategy to draw the backs away. Whatever it was it didn't work very well unless he can improve his kicking on the angle.
  9. Convert one behind a game into a goal and he is a top ten goal kicker. Probably the easiest one of them all to fix. Seems that his game relies on leading to the pocket so accuracy is important. How he works with Ben Brown could be interesting
  10. why am I having flashbacks to Kelvin Templeton
  11. The reported salary for Daniher was 600k x 5 years https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/10/19/what-essendon-want-for-joe-daniher/ hard to think that $600k warrants a 7 pick
  12. Agree but the formula would have given them a mid level first rounder I assume. If trading with Geelong they must want a player as well
  13. There's a lot in what you say.... The next European visit to the area was by the explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell. They reached the northern edge of Corio Bay – the area of Port Phillip that Geelong now fronts – on 16 December 1824,[23] and it was at this time they reported that the Aboriginals called the area Corayo, the bay being called Djillong.[11] Hume and Hovell had been contracted to travel overland from Sydney to Port Phillip, and having achieved this, they stayed the night and began their return journey two days later on 18 December
  14. Salary, trade cost (picks) and contract length estimate anyone? Thanks
  15. You have to wonder whether it is a variation on the Carlton play last year with Martin. Load the first year so the departing club won't match it thus protecting your draft picks. The system is so easily manipulated it's almost comical. The Cotton On job for his wife if true smells but I have great sympathy for the role of what are known in the expat world as "the trailing spouse". So as long as the position is justified based on salary and experience I'll let that go.
  16. Auto renewal and apathy is their ally. Without that the numbers would nosedive.
  17. No money ?
  18. Coburg oval was supposed to be revamped during 2020 and the Lions were moving to Preston for the duration. Not sure if the revamp took place so you might get to watch Coburg as well.
  19. Only 16 rounds... so even more byes !! https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/twenty-two-clubs-from-southport-to-frankston-to-feature-in-eastern-coast-league-20201029-p569un.html The AFL says the yet-to-be-named competition will be on a par with the WAFL in Western Australia and SANFL in South Australia as feeder leagues for the national competition, and will play out across a 16-round fixture from April.
  20. 22 teams so perhaps 21 rounds. Can't understand who is funding Aspley etc to fly around. Frankston was almost broke and the questions keep coming
  21. Not quite he was not signed until June 2018 and by that time his value had sky rocketed from what it was at the end of 2017. Timing is everything and we lost big https://www.sportingnews.com/au/afl/news/melbourne-demons-key-forward-tom-mcdonald-signs-four-year-deal/wefaxief6xx017fsgvsp8yz5v
  22. Interesting cultural comparison between Asia and Melbourne. When the lockdown was lifted here in late May I went a few days later to the mall. It was deserted. Six months later things are still very slow at the food courts and markets. Bars are still shut and are unlikely to open this year. There has been a central government app since June which replaced the State based app. Scanning in is easy. Many places have these fancy thermometers that you just pass your hand over. It's all a hassle and puts a dampener on life but it's okay. Masks in 34 degrees with high humidity can be a challenge. Most of the locals don't trust the reusable masks so it's all the medical masks. I have a wonderful collection of knockoff fashion masks...Burberry, Nike etc
  23. Good luck The UAE has been making many thousands of doses of the Chinese vaccine available and all seems okay so far. Early days though
  24. That defies belief T Mac is a negative trade wise(ie we pay them to take him) and Preuss is a high third rounder. Am I missing something
  25. Of course the real question is whether he will still get the same amount of frees when he plays for the Dees
