Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
Diamond_Jim replied to Bizzell Blitz's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love symmetry. I'd also be happy for him and GWS if they won the big one (provided it's not at our expense). -
I hope he battles the NQR forwards for a spot. The biggest problem with VFL is that you are into round 4 of the AFL season before it even starts. Makes it hard for fringe players even in a "normal" year

Fingers crossed for a full MCG around August https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/oct/27/covid-vaccine-uk-oxford-university-astrazeneca-works-in-all-ages-trials-suggest

Collingwood are kidding themselves if that is their offer. $300k supp for every year and even then the fifth year is hard to swallow. How did they stuff up so badly? It's far worse than us and Tom Mac
-
if Ben Brown is recruited there's no room for him up forward. (We also have Petty)
-
One year deal makes sense. I suppose we will have to trade for a replacement at the end of 2021 as I can't see anyone pushing for his spot.

I think it's easier to rank groups than players. Backline.... medium to good... suspect players.. Hibberd (age) Jetta (age and form) Smith/Tomlinson (form) Midfield poor to medium .. very good players but rarely function as a unit Forward line... Poor... suspect players... All for well discussed reasons but at least most have demonstrable upside. Increasingly question marks over Melksham and AVB plus the Hunt/Hannan/ANB/Spargo band So on that basis our list isn't great but it has potential for the right coach. It's definitely the best we have had for a very very long time.

Pleasant to see other clubs with salary cap problems due to long contracts. Will be interesting to see if the power clubs move to maximum three year deals. The Buddy deal made long contracts seem smart with the ever growing media money and its accompanying increase in the salary cap. Not anymore.

2020 Player Reviews: #46 Austin Bradtke
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
definitely has a long way to go from the few times I have watched him. was only a relieving ruck at Casey in 2019 given they played Buxton when Preuss was not playing. You have to wonder what benefit he got from the hub in terms of development -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Diamond_Jim replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be happy with that length assuming the medicos are happy with his body. If it's five as LH posted I'd start to have some concern -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Diamond_Jim replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is there any word on the length of the contract we are likely to offer Ben Brown. Thanks -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Diamond_Jim replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
he was out of contract... had nothing to do with the May trade it was simply a case of which club offered him the better deal and we blinked not sure what is has to do with brown either -

grrrrrrrrrr Kayo doesn't have any rights even to show the 7 stream today and I can't get the 7plus stream working Luckily I can live without seeing this one

Yep I generally try to have a second team that is of interest to me but neither of today's team excite. The Bulldogs win really brought home to me our lack of success. We are alone now on the bottom rung of the failure ladder with only the Saints anywhere near us. Go Storm !!!

Free agency - the rich (clubs) get richer
Diamond_Jim replied to Hampton 22's topic in Melbourne Demons
If it can be proved that this is the reason more money is being paid it is draft tampering. Remember that the formula is discretionary. Then again the AFL may be happy to give these two clubs a helping hand. MFCSS tells me that if we tried it we would be fined and lose the compo pick -
Eddie being inappropriate again perhaps.... "Morrison rejected claims from the Collingwood Football Club president, Eddie McGuire, who told news.com.au that Holgate – a Collingwood board member – was the victim of “a pile on” because “hacks” and “dullards” were trying to drag her down"

Must say I'm quite hoping for lightning and the game is postponed. Very 2020

Interesting diversion. fifty odd years ago the general belief was that it was easier to win a Brownlow at a struggling club because other players in your team did not take votes away from you. Fast forward to the last ten years and the Brownlow has almost always gone to a player in a finals team. Wonder what has changed
