Revised AAMI Community Series vs Bulldogs
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bought myself a zero cost ticket for the big game on Monday. Will watch the parade and perhaps some water ski ing before heading to the match and then finishing off with the fireworks. Yep life as an MFC supporter is lived in a time warp. Wonder what the Gas and Fuel float will look like this year -
Agree I think many people underestimate the team impact that Richmond have with Riewoldt and Lynch. Geelong may come close with Hawkins and Cameron if they can work together.

was going to raise a thread about leveraging Lever but this is as good as any. We have to get a tactic going that takes advantage of the intercept. By himself his disposal is suspect but the time when he takes the ball is when the other team is committed to attack and are at their most vulnerable. Perhaps there needs to be a plan allowing him to lay off the ball quickly to a designated player or spot

The Medallion Club is something that needs to be fixed. Often half empty it takes up the majority of the prime viewing space. At the MCG the AFL area is often reduced for Essendon games as their members reserved seating areas are in the Southern Stand.

There's a deal to be done here and provided the compo is seven figures we would be mad to ignore it. No difference to selling games to Darwin etc and few if any members would be denied a seat at Docklands

The lack of any proven goal kicking power is what sinks us. Fritsch kicking straight is worth 20-30 goals but where does the rest come from. TMac BBrown and Weid all have some big question marks and I'm not seeing a reliable 25 goal crumber.

Good point...IIRC the MCC pays a little per head to the home club for MCC attendance. Bottom line is that all the clubs will take a hit to their balance sheets. Scope for the away clubs to offer alternative big screen viewing and make a few dollars perhaps
-
heard on the ABC that Richmond are expecting an allocation of around 25k for their opening round match. Carlton maybe 5k and the rest for corporates MCC and AFL members. Given that tickets are free I think they can expect a few no shows as well. Going to be a difficult season attendance wise
-
TBH we will make a loss or just break even on the Freo game given a crowd of say 30k at most with all the extra staff needed for covid. If the club were paid say a million to swap it wouldn't be a bad idea

PRACTICE MATCH: vs Richmond - Friday 26 February 2021
Diamond_Jim replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
obviously timed for the big following on the US East Coast -
especially when they had a resonably workable local comp. It's not as though it's a great improvement on the old comp given the number of byes and truncated season. The good news is that post May the likelihood of border closures should in theory lessen.

The famous pods... If this is anything like the tennis, single tickets (even 2's) will be hard to get

The members only streams are interesting. I have no difficulty with the small upsell. Some exclusive web content for members only could be a winner. -

Anna aka the saviour of the AFL is due to let us know later this week IIRC -

the AFL are preparing for bubbles... we know they are coming... only question is when where and how long. Playing round 1 in WA on present rules will require and exemption for the visiting team if from Victoria. Luckily it's GCS so they are ok to visit at present. Giants in round 2 and Port Adelaide in round 3. Then there is the issue of the team from WA visiting the East -
The Footy Impact of Victoria's Lockdown
Diamond_Jim replied to La Dee-vina Comedia's topic in Melbourne Demons
WA is the wildcard. One case in your State outside hotel quarantine and it's 14 day quarantine until you register 28 clear days. That date for Victoria assuming no more cases is 26 days away (Sunday of Round 1) -
AFL trying to kick the can down the road but Tassie Premier not happy. Is he bluffing ?? https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-rejects-tasmanian-demand-premier-furious-20210219-p5745h.html In a letter to the premier AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said a review of the taskforce’s submission stalled last year as a result of COVID-19 and would not be completed until late 2021 or early 2022, with the AFL to appoint an independent consultant to lead the review.

Murdoch has sold his media business to Disney. He's kept key influential assets. Sky news and the Australian are what buy him influence along with his local tabloids. Foxtel wasn't sold because of local Australian issues (Telstra was one of the inhibitors).... it's not core in any way believe me. Do some back of the envelope figures and you can quickly work out that with the amount paid for AFL and NRL rights Kayo can never make money with its present set up (advertising could change that however).

the season that keeps giving
-
So one can assume the Richmond scratch match is also a non starter. What a beautiful report and the outcome is so in keeping with being an MFC supporter
-
Already a member (AFL) and received an email from MFC today containing the following blurb.. The race to round one has started. 43,787 members by 20 March 2021 – an all-time round one membership record. Join the race and let’s make history.

If it's any comfort I suspect Kayo will be sold in the next year or so. It's a very long way from a Murdoch core business these days and it's no longer a subsidised hook to get Foxtel box subscribers. Binge and Kayo are now the products. It's also lucky that the present broadcasting rights have been extended for a few years as I'm sure Stan would have tried to buy a game (say Thursday nights) or even a team's coverage (eg Brisbane). Unfotunately split platforms is the likely future.

mentioned this a few weeks ago. Leave the mark unattended and the defensive player stands five metres back allowing full movement of that player

great so the original four weeks is now almost ten.
