Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

If it is Buckley, why the charade of a selection panel etc? Established coaches eg Longmire, Simpson or highly rated Assistants that have gone thru 'the process' elsewhere and missed out, aren't going 'to apply'. A bit embarrassing to miss out. It will unnecessarily slow down selection just to avoid the optics of 'lack of due process/good governance'. People get appointed all the time without a process: Goodwin, Hardwick (GCS) Brad Scott, Carr, Cox. If its Buckley just do it! Don't waste everyone's time and precious time.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs

I don't think the game plan has changed. It has looked different/better in the last three games: Saints, WCE and WBD as they aren't renowned for strong defence. Nonetheless, it is good for the team to know it does work and in-game practice is essential. Hopefully, it stacks up vs Hawks and Pies.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs

I seem to be the odd one out on how good the game was as at the ground the first half was a bit of a snore fest: Both teams applied little pressure, their kicking for goal was poor and they looked to be just going thru the motion in 2nd gear. In the 3rd qtr those 3 things changed dramatically to make it a really exciting game. When we hit the front the crowd roared!! It was a great feeling, reminiscent of times past. It was a small crowd that made a lot of noise. It was at that point I felt the players and fans really lift and put the drama of the past week behind them. Didn't get a win but It was a great way to end the week and give everyone some momentum for the next few!

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

In late April various reports said we had sounded out Beveridge which he understandably denied. totally-invested-here-luke-beveridge-distances-himself-from-melbourne-demons-move We likely spoke to others so I don't doubt Buckley was one of them. We started 0-5 unsurprising the club started looking around.

PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs

Adams is great news! I wonder who misses from last week? May sounded like we want another tall down back... The defenders on the bench are McVee and part timers Windsor and Petty. Given we want McVee to re-sign It would be foolish to drop him 😢would it not 😭

		NON-MFC: Round 22

Pies fans are sore losers! LOL! Their 19th man went home somewhere around qtr time!!! In the last quarter there was barely one left. So much for their 'big loud' crowd they brag about.

		Simon Goodwin Sacked

JV also supports the decision. “Yeah we all built strong relationships with Goody over the last nine to 11 years, but unfortunately, we’re not sitting where we want to be as a football club, you know the club have to make tough decisions to try get us back into finals contention again. “So we understand that as a playing group and [are] fully supportive of that. brutal-industry-jack-viney-speaks-out-on-sacking-of-coach-simon-goodwin Some here may say he is just towing the company line but if so he could have worded it very differently. Like Max, Jack saw the need for change. Given Goodwin in 2021 said Jack was his favourite player, Jack's take on the sacking is significant. Both leaders are heart and soul players, they wouldn't have enjoyed 2 years of bottom 6 finishes. They want to get back to finals again, as we all do.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Has a major, major say. The status of assistants would be a critical question before accepting the job.. To change immediately depends on their contracts and whether mfc can afford to pay them out (or pay the 6 month max per recent AFL rules) within the soft cap. Also assistant coaches need to be told by end of August if they are going. So room to make changes this off-season are limited. Nonetheless, a new coach would be very keen for at least one change this year to get a preferred 2-I-C and make other changes next year.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

We train at Casey ONE DAY PER WEEk for about 9 months. It might be a convenient reason players/managers give for not coming to mfc but surely it isn't enough to turn down an opportunity. I'd say the goodies Geelong give out, regularly being in contention, big club, big crowds would be more compelling. The Casey issue is a bit of a red herring imv, and it is a shame Goodwin drew attention to it.

		Training Ground?

No way on Waverely. If not good enough for Hawks why good enough for us. And their training oval is surround by residences who have a bird's eye view of the ground and everything we do. And once we move there we will never get our home base. The likes of Hutchy and Wakeley will campaign against us moving out just as they are campaigning for us move in I don't know what their agenda's are but I really hope our Board doesn't make another knee-[censored] decision. And maybe if we get someone like Buckley who by accepting the appointment has no qualms going to Casey it may reduce the angst others have.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026

John Ralph reported Petracca wants to stay. The club desperately wants him to stay and (paraphrasing) "will help set him up for life after football, if it hasn't already happened". I assume that refers to his food interests but it could mean they explore other areas. I wouldn't trade Oliver either, as apparently there is no interest. He has been improving and had his best game in two years last week. Not having the 'linus blanket' of Goodwin's protectiveness might be the making of him and he matures as a player and as a person. A bit of tough love might just be what he needs, with a bit of kit glove. My guess is he will respond to that and if so he will be far more valuable next year if he/the club want to part company.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Flags are very difficult to win. In the meantime I will settle for finals most years and often contend at PF and GF ala Geelong and Sydney. Longmire's track record speaks for itself. He galvanises players and will make the tough calls on standards and culture eg. Didn't select his Captain for the 2024 GF even tho fit. He has gravitas and will not let players rule the roost signs of which have crept into our team in recent times. As they say in the classics: you need to be in it to win it! Longmire is thereabouts most years. So Longmire for me.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Good! I tipped him as our next GM FD too friends a few weeks ago. Hope it happens.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Hopefully we appoint a GM FD before committing to the coach. A coach would want to know who his boss will be and that their ideas on game plan, list etc are aligned. Lets not put the cart before the horse and get the coach first! Ideally the GM FD is onboard in time to finalise the coach.

		- KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!And if his manager is worth his salt he would have made sure Kozzy knew the possibilities.
- Simon Goodwin SackedGreen's email just arrived. Goodwin goes immediately. Sadly no mention of a press conf, some sort of farewell or gesture of goodwill. Female intuition suggests the divorce hasn't gone well.
- Simon Goodwin SackedThe club should do whatever Goodwin wanted. He has earnt the right to go out his way.
- Simon Goodwin SackedThe club would know who keeps feeding TM. It should have ousted them eons ago. The club should have been ready with a contingency plan in case it was leaked. ie Call a press conf for 9.00 am, which would immediately trigger speculation. But at least the club could control the narrative.
- Simon Goodwin SackedThe dignified waywas to thank him at a press conference, with Simon in club colours, with players and family there, assuming he agreed. And for the fans outline the coaching plan for the rest of the year. There is no dignified way out for the club now. I bet they are scrambling on how to manage 'the optics'. Too late! The damage is done. A press conf now will be an embarrassment. To not have one is a disgrace. A real catch-22 of the club's doing. Talk about another 'own goal'.
- Simon Goodwin SackedWhoever at the dees is feeding that creep should be ousted from the club immediately. Unacceptable to allow him to break the news, especially if players and Goodwin's family don't know yet. It should have come from the club. Goodwin deserved a dignified exit, not a media shiiit storm
