  1. I'd be rapt to get pick 33 for a bloke that's played 15 games in 3 years. It would be ludicrous to 'send him to the draft on principle' rather than take pick 33. Send the pick straight to Collingwood for Lamumba and take the 60 decent games and fanatical training standards Lamumba will provide.
  2. The deal that's been mentioned is pick 1 and 21 for O'Rourke, Jacksh and pick 4, I thought?
  3. Mahoney said on SEN this morning that their belief is that Lamumba's value lies somewhere between a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick. I was relieved to hear this as a straight swap for our 2nd pick is overs - we need something else back. Given that we hopefully won't have a 3rd round pick if Stretch gets through, one scenario might be: Melbourne's 2nd and 4th Round Picks (approx 22 and 58) for Lamumba and Collingwood's 3rd Round Pick (Approx 42). Mahoney also confirmed that we are reasonably confident of being able to secure one of or both of Sam Frost and Daniel Merrett. Perhaps that pick 42 would then be enough for one of those.
  4. Varcoe played 23 games this year in a side that finished only % off top spot after the H&A season? Brett Anderson just mentioned on SEN that this could be the first deal done on Monday morning. Varcoe's no champion but this year he averaged 15 disposals a game and played 23 games. He's a pretty good ball user with pace and is a fair upgrade on Bail, Salem, Kent, M Jones and a few others that were regulars on flanks for us this year.
  5. Not sure they'd even use pick 57 in the draft? Don't GWS and GC have to trim their list over the coming years? Don't think they'd want to delist one of their many top 20 kids to use pick 57 in an ordinary draft.
  6. I like the idea of picking up Lamumba, but I'll be livid if we trade our 2nd pick for him. You should still get an extremely talented kid at pick 21. Look at Merrett, Crouch, Impey, Taylor and McStay last year. All taken on the 20s. All look 200 game players. Bernie Vince is a midfielder and a super popular clubman. Pick 23 was slight overs but we had to do it for those reasons. We have to find a way to use Clark to bring lamumba in. Whether it be a straight swap with collingwood, or trading him to Geelong for their 2nd round pick and forwarding that to Collingwood. If pick 21 is being traded it should be for a midfielder that we will get at least 100 games out of.
  7. Not sure how anyone could watch Hodge, Lewis and Mitchell on Saturday and think that our early picks would be well spent on a key forward.
  8. We gave pick 17 for Bizzell which turned out to be James Kelly. Who's laughing now.
  9. Aaron Mullett from North. In and out of the side. Seems to be behind Atley, Macmillan, McDonald and Wright in the pecking order there. Could provide a bit of dash and decent kicking off a back flank.
  10. I must admit I have never liked the successor obsession given the chances a Ross Lyon or Alistair Clarkson will be available in 2 years time when Roos is done, but good luck to Simon. If nothing else I am happy that Tyson, Salem, Viney, Toumpas and perhaps Petracca or Brayshaw will be working with a coach who was an elite midfielder himself and isn't too long out of the game. They're not going to be learning their craft from a half back flanker. Fingers crossed Goodwin has an exceptional relationship with Carlisle and might be able to get in his ear as well.
  11. Stating the obvious I know but you'd imagine GWS will be looking to package Frost with a player to get their hands on pick 2/3. They would have no interest in a 4th round draft pick for Frost given they wouldn't even use it on draft day. Would also make sense that Toby Greene would be the one shopped given his off field issues and stand-off with the club when he got suspended. Pick 3 for Greene, Frost and a 2nd round pick?
  12. I really like the idea of using pick 3 to get Gold Coast's 7 and 15. That scenario you mentioned of sending 2 of our picks to GC for 3 of theirs may interest them as I think they still need to trim their list (?), and we just need to add as many talented players as we can. I'd like to take Petracca or Brayshaw with 2 and then I wonder if you could send 7 to Essendon for Carlisle and 15 to Sydney for Mitchell?
  13. I would do cartwheels if this deal got done. We'd finally have a hard, physical, unsociable, dirty player on our list. With our list of nice boys we are screaming out for a Campbell Brown type. I'd take that any day over the perfectly clean Blease and Strauss types who don't like it physical and lack competitiveness. Not only would he change the on field culture but Robinson averages 20 possessions and a goal a game. A walk up start. I'd be rapt.
  14. Was told 6 weeks ago by someone at Geelong that the Cats would be offering Taylor Hunt for Blease in a straight swap. I'd be rapt if we could get anything for him.
  15. How would we get a top 5 pick for Clark? Free agent compensation is based on the value and the length of the contract the player is getting at their new club. Clark certainly isn't going to get big money or much more than a 1 year deal based on his 14 games in 3 years. Or are you saying the AFL will give us something on compassionate grounds? Still couldn't see it being a top 5 pick.
  16. What an indictment on this playing group that a reject from the Western Bulldogs lead our Best and Fairest after 8 rounds. Cross would have finished top 2 or 3 but for his broken leg, and he couldn't even keep a spot on the list at a club that finished 14th last year. Also, where are all those people that were pumping up Bail's tyres after he re-signed claiming he would finish top 5 in the B&F and that he plays his role brilliantly?
  17. I don't know what you mean mate. I want players that will win us more games. Robinson and Harry O are better than the current half backs and half forwards we have, so they should help us win more games and take the club forward.
  18. What a ridiculous comment! Happy winning 10 games in 3 years with the current crew? Robinson and Harry O would be starting 18 players and might come very, very cheap. We're hardly in a position to say no to a player like Robinson that averages 20 possessions and a goal a game, and Harry O who provides a lot of what we don't have - run, rebound and a desire to bounce and take the game on out of the back line. I'll be disappointed if we don't interview both.
  19. In my opinion Dubdee it was 7 years of drafting the wrong sort of players. Schwab and Prendergast seemed obsessed with nice boys of the highest character. Name me a competitive mongrel amongst Watts, Scully, Trengove, Cook, Gysberts, Blease, Tapscott, Toumpas? The Development was also non-existent once they got here, of course, but other clubs have found stars in the last 7 drafts. I don't think you sacrifice the chance to bring in a potential A grader for the sake of multiple B-Graders (i.e. I believe Essendon offered Myers and Colyer last year for pick 2) just because we've been burnt in the past. You've got a much better chance of finding a Franklin, Roughead, Cotchin, Pendlebury etc at the pointy end of the draft. I want Roos to rebuild the place properly and bring in some kids that possess traits to be elite players, develop them properly over the next 2 seasons, and in 5 seasons might be in Mike Sheahan's top 10 players in the league. I don't want a team of B-D graders - they don't win you games.
  20. What an exceptional job Brisbane have done going to the draft, to the point where they can now trade Merrett. Justin Clark (Rooke Draft Pick 4, 2012), Darcy Gardiner (Pick 22, 2012), and Daniel McStay (Pick 25, 2013) will be 10 year key defenders, and I think Michael Close (Pick 32, 2012) will be a beauty too. Makes me want to rebuild the rebuild of the rebuild, properly this time with Roos in charge, and draft big aggressive, competitive kids like they have.
  21. We are screaming out for aggression and a small forward with lightning pace. I hope Roos looks very closely at them. Rhys Shaw and Barry Hall had issues too. For the right price it could be a great way to get 2 starting 18 players into the club. I am sick of these nice, sociable footballers we have. Robinson, Hogan, Viney and Kent wouldn't be there to make friends and that's what I want.
  22. Might be holding off on delisting Strauss, Tapscott etc in the hope that we can use them to slightly improve our picks. i.e. Strauss and pick 80 to a club for pick 75.
  23. Not sure if you're serious? You think that a 27 year old that's been out of the game for almost 3 seasons, who couldn't even train without doing a hammy or a calf, and is battling mental health issues is worth a top 10 pick? When he was 24 and fit and healthy he was worth pick 12 but you think his value is the same? You think that a club is going to give up the opportunity to bring in the 10th or 15th best 18 year old in the country just to try and get 40 games out of Mitch Clark before he retires? Wow.
  24. He's a free agent so watering down the Frawley compo is the main factor. Plus, if I'm a 27 year old and have port and collingwood playing tug of war for my services I'm not wasting any time on offers from melbourne unless they're about $200k per season better than the other offers. And he's certainly not worth $600k per season.
  25. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA PICK 10? Oh wow Demonland never fails to amaze. You must be Barry Prendergast or Tim Harrington!? Clark will be 27 at the beginning of next year. He's played his whole career as a wrecking ball and has played 15+ games in a season 3 times. He's missed the last 2 seasons and couldn't even train without doing soft tissue injuries 3 times last pre-season. He has lost all conditioning being out of the system this year. That means best case Freo could get 40 games out of him if they got his body and mind right. And you reckon that's worth pick 10? Wow.
