WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Melbourne Demons
Brett Anderson confirmed on SEN this afternoon that the Dees are keen on Adelaide's Jarryd Lyons as well. 21 year old inside mid taken at pick 61 in the 2010 national draft. Adelaide need a pick better than Port's pick 30 to trump Port for Polec. Vince has toured AAMI Park. I would've thought it's looking like Vince and Jarryd Lyons for Pick 20. -
If we can't trade pick 2 for Dylan Shiel or a 10 year, 200 game midfielder I hope that we explore swapping it for Collingwood's Picks 10 and 11. We don't need an Aish or Kelly, and 10 and 11 would give us the chance to land Crouch and Freeman/Sheed - ready-to-go inside midfielders. I heard a Recruiter say the other day that there is a clear 'top 4' or so and then the draft opens up a lot. The Pies might see pick 2 as an opportunity to add the best midfielder in the draft to their list along with Taylor Adams, while we turn pick 2 into 2 inside mids which we desperately need.

Big Americans training with Roos at Swans Academy
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would both be better prospects than Spencer. What a list clogging experiment that has been. If you need a back up ruck, rookie one. No need to clog a spot on the list while a bloke takes 5 years to get the ball from hand to foot. -
Yes we've got a few wrong, but now's not the time to be generous. Davey's 4 year contract on $500k a year was generous enough. Make a song and dance for him in the last round but he is finished. Small forwards need explosive pace and good engines so they can work up and back. The game has passed by the man who created forward pressure. Thanks Aaron but goodbye.

I'm not after Robinson for his skills, just like Gold Coast weren't after a silky smooth footballer with Campbell Brown. Robinson is a dumb, tough, battering ram. He is the sort of player that will make the nice boys like Toumpas and Trengove walk a little taller and give our side a harder edge. I am so sick of the opposition walking off the field against Melbourne feeling fresh while Davey, Watts etc embrace the opposition with a hug and a kiss. A side with Robinson, Viney and Hogan (blokes that love smashing a body) will go a small way to changing that. Get Robinson and I also suspect you go a fair way to getting his dumb partner in crime, Eddie Betts, as a free agent. Given some of the spuds we have on $500+ I'd happily pay the overs for Betts and stick him at the feet of Hogan and Dawes.

Could not believe Watts tonight. Said something along the lines of "We need to start winning...we said three years ago we were on the way up so I need to be sure we're headed in the right direction". Jack, you typify the problem with our playing list. All the talent in the world but happy enough just to be an afl player. Made me sick Watts lapping up his little cheer squad in the audience and then bemoaning how the list aren't coming on. See you Wattsy.

Mitch Robinson is a MUST. I can't stand the bloke but that is exactly what we need. An unsociable, tough as nails, battering ram. We have plenty of nice boys and we still play bruise free football. Add Robinson and Hogan into the side, two blokes who love finding the body, and the culture will gradually change on field.

If they can't win their own contested ball I ain't interested. Has some talent but would look very ordinary in our side where the delivery is poor and you're always under pressure. Just ask Shannon Byrnes.

I expect so much more from Picks 2 and 14. Glad to see the tide is turning on here because they can't kick, they can't run, and they're as slow as a wet week. At this stage I still don't know whether they're inside or outside. Their bodies don't seem any bigger than when they arrived. They're not big enough to compete on the inside and they're not fast enough to do anything on the outside. Maybe we have to build them up ala Luke Ball and hope they can become combative, inside, clearance players, otherwise I don't know where these two are going.

I would be offering Port Adelaide pick 2 in this years draft for Ollie Wines. I know it might seem a little unrealistic but it would definitely be worth asking the question, in case Port absolutely love Aish or Scharenberg. We are just screaming for a 187cm, 90kg clearance machine. From my limited U18 knowledge, Cripps from WA would seem a reasonable second round target in that mould - 190cm, solid through the legs and hips like Jobe Watson.
-
From the little footage I've seen Aish strikes me as another Gibbs / Trengove / Toumpas type. Medium size. One paced. A lovely kick and good decision maker, but not ferocious enough to play inside, and not quick enough to play outside. Does he have enough tricks to be elite at the next level where he won't have as much time?

Pederson 3 years and 300 burgers
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Alf Stewart's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cam has a special ability for someone 193cm and 120kgs to avoid physical contact and constantly miss the oppositions body. Had the chance to iron out Cloke a couple of weeks ago, and had the chance to get TDL on Saturday night. Relative to body mass I'd say he's softer than Cale Morton. -
If Spencer gets more weeks than Simpkin then.....
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Spencer deserved 3 weeks for not supporting Dawes at half time. Dead set, I thought the only thing the coaches like about him is that he is strong and aggressive. So Dawes confronts about 4 Saints at half time on his own. Where is Jake?! That's what you are in the side for mate. Pathetic. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
His problems are many. The 15 minutes it takes for him to get the ball to his boot is a fair problem. The fact he struggles to touch the ball away from a ruck contest is another problem. And if he does touch it he's a liability. Someone please end the experiment. -

Byrnes ahead of Tapscott? Spencer ahead of Gawn. What far king idiots. Coach for the future Neil, not for your résumé. -
2014 off-season will be huge (list management)
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Number 2's topic in Melbourne Demons
Why would anyone trade for Sellar now, when they didn't 2 years ago? Delist: Davey, Nicholson, Dunn, Rodan, Gillies, Spencer, Jetta, MacDonald, Strauss, Sellar, Bail, Byrnes. I don't care if they are contracted. Watts for Taylor Adams. Couldn't care less about losing Sylvia. Draft mids, mids and more mids, then two small forwards and a ruckman. -
Was a beautiful goal but I am more interested in 40m flat field kicks than 1/10 out of your arse shots from the boundary.
-
Evans is a nice footballer, buts he's just a VFL footballer. Kicking is ok, one-paced, not a big body, not soft but not aggressive or intimidating. Sadly, he's still a better player than Trengove and McKenzie.
-
I thought the effort was there but it really is the worst midfield ever. Neeld lost the players early, but Harrington and Prendergast set him up to fail. I don't know how it is so hard to find mids with: Pace Size/strength Foot skills Endurance Aggression But none of Trengove, McKenzie, Evans, M Jones, and Rodan are the answer in the modern game.
-
Pay out Byrnes, McKenzie and Jamar right away. Never to play again. Get games into Strauss, Tynan, Taggert, Fitzpatrick and Davis so we can make calls on them at the end of the year. Must get AFL help to land a Buddy or Daisy. Some sort of marketing allowance required ala Ablett, Folau. Delist another 15 minimum. Clean all the coaches out. Get some assistants we've actually heard of ala Simon Black.
-
Simon Black and Brent Harvey are the only veterans I'd consider at the end of this year. Black has aspirations to coach and we need someone to teach Toumpas, Viney etc how to play. Could play a real role as an 'on-field' midfield coach for 1 year, followed by 2 years as Midfield Coach.
-
3 years for Pederson has nothing on 3 years for Jamar or McKenzie, or the 5 years we've invested in Jake Spencer while players like Hannath and Blicavs can be picked up with late picks.

Neeld Post Match - Platitudes and other nonsense talk
Watts Jurrah Dunn? replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Taken completely out of context. Neeld was asked about his inexperience as a coach and was trying to say "don't worry about me being inexperienced - the inexperience on the field is the issue".
